Christmas on the Riviera by Jennifer Bohnet ❄️Book Review❄️ @rararesources

Happy Thursday!

I can hardly believe it is officially Christmas time! Love me a cozy Christmas read!❄️

My Thoughts

Would love to spend Christmas on the French Riviera! Loved the gorgeous setting of this story! I also really loved the relationship between Gaby and her granddaughter Elodie. Really love that grandma Gaby had a love interest, Philip who was positively lovely. I do wish the book was a little bit more Christmasy, but it was the French Riviera after all. what I found a bit problematic with the story was the relationship between Elodie and her estranged mother Harriet. and I truly didn’t like how this all played out. I really felt as though Gabby was very unfair to Elodie in the situation. Family doesn’t always deserve forgiveness, even at Christmas time. I just think there’s so much involved in being abandoned by your mother and I just can’t see it being fixed like it was in this book. I also would hope a grandmother would have a little more understanding of her granddaughter’s feelings. Sorry I’ve gone on a tangent, but this is a trigger for me. we bring our own baggage into Books and if this is not an issue for you it is a fun festive read.

My Thoughts

❄️

About the Book

Christmas on the Riviera

As a toddler Elodie Jacques was abandoned by her mother and left in the care of her French grandmother, Gabriella in Dartmouth, Devon.

Now 24 years old, Elodie struggles to reconcile the deep anger for the mother she has never since seen.

When Gabriella unexpectedly announces she wants the two of them to spend Christmas and her 70th birthday in her home town of Juan-les-Pins in the South of France Elodie is thrilled.

Gabriella meanwhile has her own ulterior motives for wanting to return after 40 years, a daunting homecoming potentially filled with memories, secrets and recriminations.

With Juan-les-Pins pulsing with lights, decorations and the festive spirit, Christmas promises to be filled with fun. But when Elodie learns there is the possibility that her long absent mother may join them she hides her feelings behind a show of indifference and animosity.

Will there be the reconciliation that Gabriella longs for – or will the spirit of Christmas fail to work its magic?

A Winter Wish by Rosie Green ❄️Book Review❄️ @rararesources

Happy Tuesday!

We are having colder than usual weather here in Southern California this year and it is the perfect weather for curling up with a book!❄️

My Thoughts

An absolute delight! this is the second book in this trilogy of stories featuring Clara, and the 24th book in this lovely series. you absolutely do not need to have read the entire series to enjoy this book, but I strongly encourage you to read the book prior to this to completely understand Clara’s story. In the prior book Clara reunites with her high school crush Rory and the will they, won’t they commences. In this story Clara’s stepsister swoops in and complicates things. But is Rory what Clara’s heart wants? we learn a bit about Clara’s background and her relationship with her family in the story. her mom and stepsister we’re not easy to like, to say the least. as in the previous book I found Clara so likable and relatable, I was really wanting nothing but the absolute best for her. cannot wait to see how things are wrapped up in this charming trilogy within this lovely larger series.

PS: once again the LDP girls make a small appearance, always good to see them!

*** Big thank you to for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

Winter Kisses at Roseford Cafe by Fay Keenan ❄️Book Review❄ @rararesources️

Hello book people!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas reading season and I am here for it! loved this charming Wintery story!❄️

My Thoughts

The perfect festive story to kick off Christmas reading season! Lucy is a single mom and café owner living in a small lovely town. Lucy is so excited to find out that Finn Sanderson her high school crush who she thought she’d never meet is filming a movie in her small town. and she is rendered speechless when he comes into her café for a cup of coffee. but Finn is not your stereotypical star. He is down to earth and humble. Lucy ends up catering for the movie set allowing fin and her to form a connection. but is Lucy ready to be involved with a celebrity? really liked both Lucy and fin, and wanted things to work out for them. Also, really enjoyed all the secondary characters in this charming town. the town itself really was a character, somewhere you’d want to go visit especially at Christmas time. loved the Christmas fair, all the festive Decour, and, of course the snow. A heartwarming, sweet story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

*** Big thank you to Boldwood for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

About the Book

When Lucy Cameron, the owner of Roseford Café, is asked to fulfil a last-minute catering order on set, she can’t believe her luck.

Lucy’s erstwhile teenage crush, Finn Sanderson, is the star of the film, alongside his glamorous co-star, Montana de Santo, with whom he has been linked on and off the screen, and their sprinkle of stardust around the village is intoxicating.

With Christmas approaching and the snow starting to fall, Lucy’s path keeps crossing with Finn’s, and she starts to get to know the man behind the movie star. As her feelings grow, so too do Lucy’s reservations about even considering becoming involved with someone so well-known. And when Lucy becomes the centre of a social media storm, her fears seem to be justified.

Are happy-ever-afters just the preserve of romantic Christmas movies, or could Lucy and Finn star in their very own, real-life festive love story…

Revel in the perfect country Christmas romance from Fay Keenan, just right for all fans of Julie Houston, Cathy Bramley and Holly Martin.

Clara’s Secret by Rosie Green 🌼Book Review🌼 @rararesources

Hello Bookworms!

It is always a good day when I get to visit the Little Duck Pond Café!

My Thoughts

Another delight of a read in this fantastic series! even though this is the 23rd book in the series it is the first book in a trilogy within the series, so it can absolutely be read as a standalone. OK, that’s a lie, after you read this book, you will want to read the next two books, for sure. As they continue Clara’s story. Clara is a very likable relatable character. remember that boy/girl you had a crush on in high school who didn’t even know you existed? for Clara that is Rory and he is now back in her life. so, will he notice her now? You’ll have to pick up this lovely book to find out. And trust me, it will not disappoint! Beautiful flowers, scrumptious vegetables (yes I said scrumptious), sweet sibling relationships, and a charming setting. Not to mention the will they won’t they between Clara and Rory. cannot wait to read the next book and spend more time with Clara and these other fabulous characters.

PS: even though the characters from the previous books, don’t have a huge part in the story, they do make an appearance. And if you’re like me, that will make you smile.

*** Big thank you to the author for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

A Winter Warmer At The Little Cornish Kitchen by Jane Linfoot 🕊️Book Review🕊️ @rararesources

Hello reading friends!

Hope you’re having an amazing day! Excited to share my review with you today of this delightful story set in Cornwall. I will hopefully make it there one day!

My Thoughts

A delightfully scrumptious story! Loved being back in Cornwall in this lovely town with these charming characters. This is the third book in the series, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone. This book introduces us to quite a few new characters, including Gwen and Ella who are new to town. they are living in a seaside cottage, where the rent has been cut with the stipulation that they are going to remodel the place. One of the first people Gwen meets when arriving in town is Ollie. their meeting is fraught with tension, embarrassment, and chemistry. but both Ollie and Gwen are going through things so they deny the chemistry for most of the book. Gwen finds herself a job at the Little Cornish Kitchen, where she whips up all kinds of yummy food and treats. this book reminded me that I haven’t had a piece of fudge in ages. Also, I just want to know if I move to small town Cornwall is everyone going to welcome me like Gwen and Ella were welcome to this town? Gwen really found her place and her footing, in this quaint town, not to mention love. Just a delightful heartwarming story filled with food, friends, family, decorating, and an adorable dove.

*** Big thank you to One More Chapter for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

The Break Up Agency by Sheila McClure 🐶Book Review🐶 @rararesources

Happy Tuesday bookworms!

Hope all is well with you! Delighted to share with you my review for this gem of a story!🐶

My Thoughts

Such a fun story, and the audiobook was stellar! Ellie is a little lost in London. she is no longer with her boyfriend, the reason she moved to London. She isn’t crazy about her current job, and feels as though she has no close friends. now, if you are a frequent romcom reader, you know that break ups, lousy jobs, and no friends usually leads to love. But not so fast! Ellie doesn’t find love instead she finds a new career path. Softer Landings, where she helps people break up with their partners, in a kinder gentler way. I thought the idea of this “break up agency“ was quite clever, made me wonder if there is actually such a thing? Ellie was a sympathetic character. I really wanted her to find her confidence and realize her self-worth. Thea and Simon, her coworkers, who eventually become her friends were definitely colorful characters. Now there is some romance in the story, it’s just very complicated. Ellie is certain that “American Dan “is perfect for her, the problem is, he’s in a relationship or out of the country for most of the book. I did like Dan I just was a bit conflicted with the entire situation. Both he and Ellie were hiding things. But don’t fear there is a character in the story that will steal your heart, Gus, the dog! absolutely adored that furry guy, he absolutely stole the show. I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated by Imogen Church, who is one of my favorite narrators. She did an amazing job of bringing all these characters to life. If you are an audiobook person, I definitely recommend. And bonus. It is available in Audiobook and Ebook on KU in the US.

*** Big thank you to Lake Union for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

About the Book

The Break-Up Agency

Ellie Shaw loves love. Unfortunately, she’s also an expert in break-ups. When a friend needs help with her ‘too nice to dump’ boyfriend, Ellie agrees to help. What she doesn’t expect is for American Dan to be kind, caring, to love dogs and look like a Disney hero. In other words, completely too good to be true.

She lets him down with grace and, encouraged by her friends, sets up Softer Landings, offering kinder, gentler break-ups.

A year later American Dan reappears in her life. With a new girlfriend. One who also decides he’s not the one for her.

The team hatch a plan to let Dan down easy, but while Ellie attempts to lead him gently away, real sparks start to fly. There’s just one big problem she can’t ignore. Can Ellie reveal that their romance is the result of an elaborate con without it feeling like a huge betrayal? Or is she about to star in the most awful dumping of all time?

Buttercups in the Basement by Jane Harvey 🦋Book Review🦋 @rararesources

Happy Wednesday friends!

Excited to share with you today my review of this delightful book! This is the second book in the series, but after I finished I quickly picked up the first. They are both available on KAU in the US.Excited to share with you today my review of this delightful book! This is the second book in the series, but after I finished I quickly picked up the first. They are both available on KU in the US. 🦋

My Thoughts

Love me a good found family story! this is the second book in this delightful series, but I do have to say I read it before reading the first and was not lost. But warning after you finish this you will want to go get that first book ASAP! this book is about Betsy, bouncing between 1967 and present day. betsy and her husband William first purchased Hummingbird house in 1967 where she still lives. I really liked the dual timelines, it was interesting how much things have changed, and yet have stayed the same. it was fun watching Betsy start the renovations of Hummingbird house and begin to take on tenants. both timelines were equally intriguing, and that is not always the case. I loved all the tenants in the present day and cannot wait to get to know them all better. The present day story also has some overlap with the first book, from Betsy‘s perspective. However as I mentioned above you don’t need to have read the first book to thoroughly enjoy this one. A great story that made me want to move into hummingbird house and really get to know these folks. There is also a bit of a twist to the story, so I’m patiently waiting for more!

About the Book

Buttercups in the Basement

1967: the summer of love and the year Betty moves into her first home.

Independent. Open. Inexperienced. She is excited to be living with her new husband, William, and committed to returning Hummingbird House to its former glory.

But when she invites captivating new tenants into her home and settles into married life, her world begins to transform in ways she could never have imagined.

She thought she was on a journey toward domesticity and devotion – but her experiences that summer prove to be anything but traditional.

Alternating between the1960s and the present day, Buttercups in the Basement is a delightful exploration of personal awakening, friendships – and what it means to be happy.

A Scandinavian Summer by Helga Jensen ☀️Book Review☀ @rararesources

Happy Monday friends!

Today is Labor Day in the US, the unofficial end to summer. What better way to celebrate then review a fabulous summer read! If you’re anything like me you want to hold onto summer as long as possible!☀️

My Thoughts

The perfect book to end summer with! Martha has focused all her energy on her daughter Rosie, after her husband passes away. now Rosie is heading abroad and Martha realizes that there is something missing in her life. Even though she enjoys her job at the library, she knows there is more to life than the current life she’s living. Martha does enjoy her Scandi noirs and this inspires her to book a trip to Denmark. i’d like to add right here that this book inspired me to want to book a trip to Denmark! The cottage and island where Martha stays are simply delightful. not to mention Lars. I wonder if the travel agent could guarantee I’d meet a Lars if I were to go to Denmark? Anyways I digress… I truly enjoyed this book, I love a romance that involves a woman of a certain age *my age* I also found Rosie‘s idea of her mother’s life tremendously relatable. Lars was a great love interest and I really loved how the relationship developed between Martha and him. This just really was a fun feel good romcom filled with quirky characters.☀️

About the Book

A Scandinavian Summer

It’s the right time for love, but is it the wrong place?

After the tragic, premature death of her husband Anthony, Martha has spent all her time focused on her teenage daughter Rosie in their small Welsh village.

But with Rosie leaving the nest, and Martha’s own job on the line, it feels that life is passing her by.

Inspired by her love for Scandi-noir dramas, Martha impulsively books a trip to Denmark, determined to push herself out of her comfort zone – even if the thought terrifies her…

Her trip to the tiny island of Fano becomes something much more: in the form of handsome stranger, Lars. Can Martha find love under the Scandinavian skies… but more importantly, can she find herself?

A romantic, warm and uplifting read, guaranteed to leave you smiling. Fans of Jenny Colgan and Kathryn Freeman will adore this feelgood read!

The Wedding Cake by Isabella May 👰🏻‍♀️Book Review👰🏻‍♀️ @rararesources

Happy weekend!

This weekend I’m doing something kind of crazy the Goggins challenge. What is this? I am cycling for 45 minutes every four hours for 48 hours, along with a few other fitness nuts. between rides I am reading! The perfect weekend my two favorite things working out and reading!🚴🏻‍♀️📚

My Thoughts

A perfect summer read! Romance, wedding plans, scrumptious cake, bridezillas. told from three alternating perspectives: Freya, Alice, and Tim. i’ve just loved everything about this book and enjoyed spending every minute with (almost) all of these characters. I was a little concerned I wasn’t going to like how things played out between Freya and Tim (it was complicated) but I have to say I like how things came together. then we had Piper who was a great character that I loved to hate. all the food descriptions in this book especially of the cakes made me so hungry. and the setting was chef’s kiss. A beautiful story with a gorgeous setting, delicious food, and delightful characters.

About the Book

The Wedding Cake

Liz has always surrounded herself with books.

As a child, she was always to be found with her head in one and she still has a bookcase full of her childhood favourites to this day. She went on to work in a library cataloguing early printed books – but as most of the books turned out to be volumes of sermons, she wasn’t tempted to read them all!

Children interrupted her bibliographic career, and Liz started writing fiction and hasn’t stopped since, joining the Romantic Novelists’ Association New Writers’ Scheme in 2015 to try to learn how to write novels properly.  This led to publication of her first romantic novel, The Little Church by the Sea in late 2017, followed by The Manor on the Moors in 2019.

When Covid struck, Liz was working on a novel set in the 1990s, but sadly research proved difficult when she could no longer access the microfilm readers at the reference library. Instead, she wrote Summer Showers at Elder Fell Farm which relied largely on her own experiences of campervans, campsites and noisy children.
