We Met in December by Rosie Curtis @karamina @avonbooksuk @HarperCollinsUK #WeMetInDecember #RosieCurtis

Hello book friends,

I’m super happy to bring you my review for the audiobook that has been released for this lovely story – if it sounds slightly familiar, it is because Berit reviewed the book a few weeks ago Here.

Thank you to Avon books UK for choosing me for this Audio Tour.

My Thoughts

This was a lovely slow burn romance book told from the POV of Jess and Alex.

Jess is 29 and has recently moved to London for a new job opportunity, she can’t afford to pay the extortionate rental prices there, so she rents a room in a house with new housemates.

After arriving at the house and being introduced to everyone, she notices Alex, the male nurse who is sharing her floor with her and thinks Yummy!

There wasn’t insta-love so much as an insta-connection, but Jess is fully aware of the house rules that have been set for everyone, and one of those, is NO RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN HOUSEMATES.

So that’s that!

But is isn’t quite, Jess and Alex bond as friends and often go around exploring London and all of it’s hidden gems, but Alex is secretly seeing one of the housemates Emma, much to Jess’s dismay, and because she has been ‘friend-zoned’ decides to try her hand at online dating, to which Alex is a little crestfallen as he secretly likes Jess.

Although this is called We met In December, it is not a Christmassy book as the book spans a whole year between the characters, and throughout gives a will-they-won’t-they vibe.

But I will say that the snippets about Christmas and the way that the author describes London at that time of year, really got me into the Xmas spirit.

🎧🎧

Narrated by Finlay Robertson and Jessica Preddy, who both did fantastic jobs, I was thoroughly entertained throughout the whole book and will definitely look for books narrated by them again.

*Thank you to Avon Books UK and the Author for sending me an audio copy of this book

Enjoy

About the Book

Prepare to fall head over heels. The perfect book for fans of Josie Silver, Richard Curtis, and anyone who ever fell in love with the wrong person…

What if you couldn’t get away from the one who got away?

This December, unlucky-in-love Jess is following her dream and moving to Notting Hill. On the first night in her new house-share she meets Alex, the guy in the room next door. They don’t kiss under the mistletoe, but there’s still a spark that leaves Jess imagining how they might spend the year together – never mind the house rule against dating…

But when Jess returns from her Christmas holiday, she finds Alex has started seeing Emma, who lives on the floor above them. Now Jess faces a year of bumping into the man of her dreams – and, apparently, the woman of his.

Jess is determined to move on and spend the year falling in love with London, not Alex – but what if her heart has other ideas?

Hope you are having a fantastic weekend! Today I am bringing you my review for this fabulous book filled with Snark and laughs.💕

When Life Gives You Lululemons

When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

4 Sassy Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Lauren Weisberger returns with a novel starring one of her favorite characters from The Devil Wears Prada—Emily Charlton, first assistant to Miranda Priestly, now a highly successful image consultant who’s just landed the client of a lifetime.

Welcome to Greenwich, CT, where the lawns and the women are perfectly manicured, the Tito’s and sodas are extra strong, and everyone has something to say about the infamous new neighbor.

Let’s be clear: Emily Charlton, Miranda Priestly’s ex-assistant, does not do the suburbs. She’s working in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars, but recently, Emily’s lost a few clients. She’s hopeless with social media. The new guard is nipping at her heels. She needs a big opportunity, and she needs it now.

Karolina Hartwell is as A-list as they come. She’s the former face of L’Oreal. A mega-supermodel recognized the world over. And now, the gorgeous wife of the newly elected senator from New York, Graham, who also has his eye on the presidency. It’s all very Kennedy-esque, right down to the public philandering and Karolina’s arrest for a DUI—with a Suburban full of other people’s children.

Miriam is the link between them. Until recently she was a partner at one of Manhattan’s most prestigious law firms. But when Miriam moves to Greenwich and takes time off to spend with her children, she never could have predicted that being stay-at-home mom in an uber-wealthy town could have more pitfalls than a stressful legal career.

Emily, Karolina, and Miriam make an unlikely trio, but they desperately need each other. Together, they’ll navigate the social landmines of life in America’s favorite suburb on steroids, revealing the truths—and the lies—that simmer just below the glittering surface. With her signature biting style, Lauren Weisberger offers a dazzling look into another sexy, over-the-top world, where nothing is as it appears.

She’s baaack… Love when I get to revisit a favorite character and Emily definitely tops my list of all-time favorite characters… “The Devil Wears Prada” is a favorite of mine! Loved all the Snark, laugh out loud moments, and of course the fashion…. oh and I mustn’t forget Maranda, who makes an appearance in this book and is still as vapid as ever….”that’s all…”

Emily is now an image consultant to the stars, living in California… but when supermodel Carolina gets her self in some trouble Emily heads to Greenwich, Connecticut…. greenwich is filled with beautiful mansions and Lululemon wearing mommies… Carolina has been charged with a DUI with kids in the car…. Emily, Carolina, and Miriam, lawyer turned stay at home mom, bond together to fight the charges and the other mothers of Greenwich…

The story is told from all three points of view… I loved all three of these ladies, they were all so much fun and I loved the bond they formed… nothing better than strong female friendships in a book…. if you are a fan of the previous book this is a must-read… filled with all the Snark, fun,and laugh out loud moments of the first book….

Absolutely recommend as a fun beach read or an escape from reality during the heat of summer☀️

How Hard Can It Be? by Allison Pearson @allisonpearson #BookReview #PublicationDay

Happy Publication Day to this fabulous book!🎉🎉🎉

Thrilled to bring you my review today for this book that I absolutely loved from cover to cover!💕

How Hard Can It Be

How Hard Can It Be? by Allison Pearson

5 “50 Is The New 30” Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis

Few sequels beat the original, but How Hard Can It Be?does so hands down.

Kate Reddy’s comeback as a pushing-50 “Returner,” re-entering the workforce after a spell on the mommy track, is zesty, razor-sharp, and hilarious. With a robust absence of self-pity, she has defined the humiliating onset of “invisibility” that coincides with the onrushing pressures of parents, teenage kids, and a marriage gone flat, all while attempting to reinstate her perilous professional worth. It’s full of such quotable casual profundity on the female condition I couldn’t read it without a pencil to underline the abundance of great lines. Get ready for Kate!” —Tina Brown

Allison Pearson’s brilliant debut novel, I Don’t Know How She Does It, was a New York Times bestseller with four million copies sold around the world. Called “the definitive social comedy of working motherhood” (The Washington Post) and “a hysterical look―in both the laughing and crying senses of the world―at the life of Supermom” (The New York Times), I Don’t Know How She Does It introduced Kate Reddy, a woman as sharp as she was funny. As Oprah Winfrey put it, Kate’s story became “the national anthem for working mothers.”

Seven years later, Kate Reddy is facing her 50th birthday. Her children have turned into impossible teenagers; her mother and in-laws are in precarious health; and her husband is having a midlife crisis that leaves her desperate to restart her career after years away from the workplace. Once again, Kate is scrambling to keep all the balls in the air in a juggling act that an early review from the U.K. Express hailed as “sparkling, funny, and poignant…a triumphant return for Pearson.”

Will Kate reclaim her rightful place at the very hedge fund she founded, or will she strangle in her new “shaping” underwear? Will she rekindle an old flame, or will her house burn to the ground when a rowdy mob shows up for her daughter’s surprise (to her parents) Christmas party? Surely it will all work out in the end. After all, how hard can it be?

5 ”50 Is The New 30” Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Kate! You are absolutely being added to my book BFF list! Not sure when the last time was I read a book with such a relatable character… Kate and I are almost the same age… our kids are about the same age going through the same things as are our parents…. such a wonderful book, filled with laughter, tears, and love…

Kate is quickly heading towards her 50th birthday… she also needs to reenter the workforce, because hubby Rich has decided to take a two year internship… rich seems to be more interested in his bike and mindfulness than Kate and the kids… Kate‘s kids Emily and Ben are typical teenagers dealing with typical teenage angst…. Ben is glued to his electronics never too far from his phone or his video games… Emily is concerned with what everybody else thinks…. and now with social media that adds an entire new level to this age old teenage dilemma…. cannot even tell you how many times I found myself agreeing with Kate‘s many insights on being the parent of a teenager today….

To add to the stress of being the only present parent and main breadwinner Kate is also going through menopause… i’m not quite to this point in my life yet (and if I am I am in complete denial about it) but nothing about it sounds all that fun…. but as Kate does with all aspects of her life she adds a splash of humor to it(Intentional or not) that I just absolutely loved in this book… this book is a sequel, but it absolutely can be read as a standalone, I don’t believe I lost anything having not read the first book… however I plan on eventually reading the first book so I can visit a younger Kate….

Absolutely recommend to women of all ages! Because even knew my friends in your 30s… someday you will be knocking on the door of 50! And the insights and humor in this book are perfect!

Loved the ”good things” toasts in this book… we all need a group of women in our lives that will toast the good things we have going on🥂

This is the perfect book to read when sitting at the beach or wishing that you were… featuring a cast of strong women who really were there for one another…. this is the fifth book in the series, however it can be read as a standalone… although I was not lost I probably would have appreciated some of the backstory on some of these characters… but that’s because these characters were so colorful I wanted to know them better….

There was a lot going on in this book but a couple storylines really stood out to me…. Nikki was probably the character I found most relatable, just trying to do it all, and not wanting to admit that she couldn’t… I completely got her, if somebody had suggested to me I needed help with my kids, I would have reacted the same exact way…. then we have the biggest mess of the book Kyra… that was a confounding situation, not sure why one woman much less two would want that Daniel…. I was rooting for Troy the entire time! Not only was he a great guy, but he also shares a name with my youngest son…

Loved how all the storylines in this book concluded, it was all very satisfying… I would also absolutely read the next book in this series, and I’d go back and read the previous books if I had the time…. this book left me with a smile on my face and craving the beach, cheese doodles, and egg soufflé…

Strongly recommend to people who enjoy a book filled with friendship, family, drama, and food….

Review

4 turquoise Blue Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Let me start this off by saying this is a book that is going to take you a while to get into… The narrative is very unusual and quirky…. very short chapters some of them appear simply to be lists…. and honestly about 30% in I was thinking to myself, how am I going to rate this book? But by the end I was so charmed, after I got into the flow of the writing style….

There are quite a few characters in this book all of them a bit quirky… and due to the choppy writing style it did take me awhile to appreciate these characters…. Tilly was very interesting… a statistician who saw life through numbers and facts… in fact she wrote a report of sorts when her marriage broke up including flow charts and gave it to her ex…. she even came up with a compatibility index, but never fear it was put to good use in the end…. there was quite the cast of characters in this book… including all of Tilly’s siblings, her father, her grandmother, her ex-boyfriend, his new girlfriend, her boss, her coworker, and Daniel….

Now there are a few characters I would have liked to get to know better… including Catherine Tilly’s sister…. absolutely could relate to Catherine better than Tilly, the girl had a crazy handbag collection…. also would have liked a little more about her grandmother Violet, really enjoyed her relationship with Owen… also really enjoyed Matt and grace, Tillys ex and his new girlfriend…. well shoot I really needed to know more about everybody her brother who was a expert in the color blue, her father who created sand sculptures for a living, see what I am saying super quirky…. additionally there were some interesting little chapters about household appliances… and I can’t forget Daniel, what will happen there?

I want to recommend this if you are willing to go into it with an open mind… and know that it is not written in a

conventional writing style, but in the end quite a lovely book….

This is the second story in a three-part series of short stories, and it was absolutely delightful… it also can absolutely be read as a standalone, I believe you get a really good idea of who these characters are in this book… The premise behind the entire series is people becoming “friends“ online…. this is something I have thought about myself… being part of the book community and having met so many people through my book blog and Goodreads…. people I would truly consider my friends, they may not know what the inside of my house looks like, or what high school I went to, but I communicate with some of my online friends more often then my real life friends…. an interesting thing to ponder, but I consider online friends real friends…

This book focuses mainly on Estelle and Constance… when the girls decide to take a spa vacation… they find out they have much more in common than being authors, Especially when it comes to their sons…. it was fun to see their friendship grow stronger and you just know they are going to be friends forever….

There was something about this book that made me feel as though I was at the spa with Estelle and Constance, and believe me I wish I were…. it sure did seem like a delightful place to visit…. this book just was a pleasure to read from start to finish…. and the ending… did not see that little twist coming… what is in store next for these girls? And what is in store for the rest of the crew? we did get little snippets of their lives via Instagram in this book… cannot wait for the next book in this little gem of a short story series….

Absolutely recommend when you are in the mood for a quick getaway red…

~My Review~

4 Big Greek Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Now I want to book myself a trip to this little village Thakos in Greece… I usually am not pulled in by the setting of a book… but I think the author does such a magnificent job of describing this tiny village, she just made it come alive…. I also think she made Liverpool seem quite interesting, really all I know about Liverpool is the Beatles… yes, I vacation vicariously through the characters in my books!

Mandy was a fabulously relatable character…. blindsided by her husband‘s infidelity, a man she had been with since she was a teen … Mandy decides she needs to take a vacation and major props to her for going by herself…. she finds herself in this little village in Greece that isn’t quite what she remembers from her childhood…. but as she spends more time there she is taken with the charm of the place and the people…. and decides she wants to breathe new life into this village….

Looking back on this book there sure was a lot going on…. but really what I found most lovely was Mandy’s relationships with the females in her life…. she had a fabulous BFF in Haley and developed a wonderful relationship with Janet a girl she knew from high school who ran with a different crowd…. Mandy also had a strong relationship with her mother… and an interesting but important encounter with a woman on an airplane….

So… will Mandy learn to love again? Will she breathed life into the little village of Thakos? You will need to read this book to find out… it is really Mandy’s story to tell….

Recommend as a perfect beach read, when you’re in the mood for a lovely getaway…

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman #FlashbackFriday #BookReview @GailHoneyman

Happy Friday! Bringing you one of my favorite books of 2017, if you have not read this gem of a book yet I strongly encourage you to do so!😍

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

5 spectacular Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis

No one’s ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine.

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.

But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.

Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the smart, warm, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes. . .

The only way to survive is to open your heart.

Review

What a remarkable book about an extremely interesting character Eleanor…. I would strongly recommend this book to anybody that likes a character driven story, this book was just filled with remarkable characters that were so extremely well developed…. Eleanor, motivated by an extremely one sided crush decides she’s going to improve herself… along the way she makes a friend in Raymond, he and my opinion is the true hero of the story, without him Eleanor would not have grown or made herself a better person, as much as she did…. it is really just a simple story of how a single person and a single act of kindness, can impact your life so much for the better…..

With Kindness,

4.25 Fun Foodie Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25

This was a fun read that made me quite a bit hungry at times…. The book had a little bit of a lot of things I like humor, wonderful characters, food, reality television, did I mention food? This really was the story of Katie finding her way and herself….

Katie has always wanted to be a chef, she went to chef school, and opened her own restaurant… but as I’m sure most of you no the restaurant business is tough…. so when Katie finds it necessary to close her dream restaurant she ends up taking a job at a care facility as a cook… then she sees a casting call for a reality television show called Master Chef…. The winner gets to work with a very famous yet temperamental chef Jean-Michel… now I have never had the desire to be a chef… in fact my idea of cooking is putting something in the microwave and heating it up…. however this Jean-Michel character has only made me realize I’d never want to work in his kitchen… really what a complete jerk!

Katie was an extremely likable and relatable character… flaws and all… yes she was a bit selfish when it came to her father’s needs, but as children even as adult children we all probably are a little bit…. I really loved Katie’s relationship with the elderly Martha… Martha was such a spunky older lady with such fabulous advice we really all need a Martha in our lives…. Alice Katie‘s BFF was also a really likable an interesting character, I wouldn’t mind a book about her…. then we have Ben Katie‘s ex boyfriend who also ended up being her competition in the reality show…. Ben seemed like a nice enough guy, and they had a few moments that were cute… but he did have a girlfriend…. I guess I would’ve maybe liked some of their history? I really didn’t always understand the attraction… but that is my only minor complaint about this book… otherwise it was a pleasure to read… I loved seeing all the growth in Katie throughout this book….

Strongly recommend to anybody who loves fabulous characters, a pleasant plot, and food….

What a fun journey this was literally and figuratively…. Connie is tired of being took for granted… so she packs up her well loved adorable car named Kermit and hits the road….. I really need to tack up a map of the UK somewhere in my house, I read so many books that take place there and I have no idea where anything is… I kept googling places because they all seem so lovely… I am taking a trip there sometime soon, But in the meantime I will visit through books….

Connie was so likable and so real… she was all of us…. some of the characters she met along her trip were so quirky and a few situations were a little over-the-top, but that made this even more fun…. Connie added a little sunshine to everybody‘s life she met along this trip…. and she took away a little knowledge from everybody herself….

I also really love the emails between Connie and her children back home… at first her kids were super concerned…. like who’s going to babysit their kids and how is poor dad going to cope with things such as vacuuming…. connie’s answers back were perfection…. she just told them that she was having an amazing journey and she’d be back soon enough….

So does Connie returned to her family…. do things change? Do they now appreciate their lovely mother? You really need to read this book and find out! Mom if you are reading this review, you would love this book!

Absolutely recommend to anybody who has ever felt undervalued and overwhelmed… filled with fabulous quirky characters, laugh out loud moments, and some teaching moments as well….

*** thank you so much too Bookouture and Net Galley for a copy of this lovely book ***

PS: looks like my mom is going to have a Bookouture Mother’s Day 🤫 berit 💛
