Synopsis

Em is locked in a bare, cold cell with no comforts. Finn is in the cell next door. The Doctor is keeping them there until they tell him what he wants to know. Trouble is, what he wants to know hasn’t happened yet.

Em and Finn have a shared past, but no future unless they can find a way out. The present is torture – being kept apart, overhearing each other’s anguish as the Doctor relentlessly seeks answers. There’s no way back from here, to what they used to be, the world they used to know. Then Em finds a note in her cell which changes everything. It’s from her future self and contains some simple but very clear instructions. Em must travel back in time to avert a tragedy that’s about to unfold. Worse, she has to pursue and kill the boy she loves to change the future.

Review

This one is going to be really difficult to review as it is a complete mind f**k!

So we 1st meet Em, she is in a cell and has been tortured horribly by “The Doctor”. In the cell next door is a boy called Fin, even though they have not seen each other they have a very strong connection, and she knows that she loves him.

Em manages to escape her cell and with Fin in tow they make there way to “Cassandra” a time machine, and is whisked into the future to escape the Doctors clutches.

We then meet Marina, she is a typical teenage girl, with a crush on James next door.
James is older than her, but they have been best friends for years, James is super clever and has passed all of his exams etc. 3 years before everyone else and has a very important job.

James’ s best friend and the bane of Marina’s life is Fin Abbot……………yes I know what you are thinking.

The story flips back and forth between Em and Marina, slowly piecing a puzzle together, until you realise that Em, Marina and Fin are somewhat of a mystery!

She hates him in one life and loves him in another……how?? And who the hell is “The Doctor”?
Well that would just be a spoiler now wouldn’t it !!

🎧🎧 Great narration by Meredith Mitchell who really played each character brilliantly, and didn’t make it confusing, that would have been really difficult to understand an already confusing book 😱

A very enjoyable 4•5☆ debut read.

Review

This was a very well done and unique psychological thriller…
An accident over 10 years ago one sister has carried the guilt for it, the other sister has suffered the physical consequences of it…. really don’t want to say too much about this, but I thought the author did a really good job of portraying all the characters, and I think a lot of research took place to really get the character of Kitty right….. and even though Kitty had a brain injury and was really confine to quite a frustrating life, you definitely never felt any sympathy for her, she was quite unlikable…. Allison on the other hand you definitely had empathy for, I was glad with the outcome of this book, so many twists and turns, I never would have seen coming…. definitely will read more books from this author…

TGIF Today for my flashback Friday review I am bringing you a book narrated by the magnificent Joe Arden, Who we were lucky enough to get an interview with… The interview was posted on the blog earlier today and I sure hope you had the opportunity to read it, it was quite divine😍

I listened to this book on audio and it was wonderful! The story is fabulous and it was probably my favorite romance of 2017, so I cannot recommend this book enough! fabulous narration as well as a fantastic love story💕

Review

I devoured this book just as I would a piece of cake….
Casey was such a fabulous character, she reminded me a little bit of a younger me… always having a little too much to say…. Jake was just a good guy… with a very tragic past, a lot to overcome….

Even though a few things didn’t quite ring true with me( I just can’t imagine a huge rockstar not having more security) this was a very real love story…. I also really appreciated that both characters had a very strong family presence throughout the book….. definitely looking forward to more books from this author, in fact I’ve already started the second book in the series….

PS: the second book as fabulous as well!

What a remarkable book about an extremely interesting character Eleanor…. I would strongly recommend this book to anybody that likes a character driven story, this book was just filled with remarkable characters that were so extremely well developed…. Eleanor, motivated by an extremely one sided crush decides she’s going to improve herself… along the way she makes a friend in Raymond, he and my opinion is the true hero of the story, without him Eleanor would not have grown or made herself a better person, as much as she did…. it is really just a simple story of how a single person and a single act of kindness, can impact your life so much for the better…..

I have decided to put another Young Adult book as my #FlashbackFriday because i think sometimes they get a bit of a raw deal.

Some of my favourite book series have been YA, and i think a lot of the time they get overlooked because people think they are for kids, or they are just full of sparkly vampires 😂

So if you’ve never picked up a YA, why not try it, you might be surprised.

Synopsis

“There’s a reason why Brewster can’t have friends – why he can’t care about too many people. Because when he cares about you, things start to happen. Impossible things that can’t be explained. I know, because they’re happening to me.”

When Brontë starts dating Brewster “Bruiser” Rawlins – the guy voted “Most Likely to Get the Death Penalty” her twin brother, Tennyson, isn’t surprised. But then strange things begin to occur. Tennyson and Brontë’s scrapes heal unnaturally fast, and cuts disappear before their eyes. What at first seems like their good fortune turns out to be more than they bargained for…much more.

So I was really excited about reading another Neal Shusterman book, his writing tends to be unforgettable.

I wasn’t disappointed at all….phew!

Loved this book, loved the characters, loved the story, loved it!!

Someone (I don’t know who sorry) described Neal Shusterman as the Tim Burton of YA books, and that is a really good call.

If you have never read a Shusterman book before, firstly WHAT ?!?!?!

What he does in his books is a little like a college professer in class, he leaves you thinking “what would I do?”

Class……”If you could legally abort your child after the age of 13, just by signing a piece of paper that is legally binding, and that said child,now 15 years old pissed you off BIG TIME one night, would you sign it……what about in anger? would you”…………DISCUSS……..

^^^That above is what it is like reading Unwind, one of my all time favourite YA books, I haven’t met anyone that read it and went mehh, and if you say “that” scene to them, they just nod and shudder, ……….do it, read it.

In Bruiser, we meet Brewster “Bruiser” Rawlins, he is the boy at school you avoid, who never smiles, who never talks, who never looks you in the eye.

We also meet Tennyson and Brontè, twins from a loving stable family.

And lastly we meet Cody, Brewsters little brother.

There is a reason for Brewster (brew for short) being so stand offish, he cannot get close to anyone, otherwise it could literally kill him.

If you had the chance to take someone’s pain away would you do it? Where would this end? Bruises, cuts, broken bones?? And who would this stop at, just people you cared for? Just your family? ………….DISCUSS. ….

Brontè starts to go out with Brewster, much to her brothers dismay, after all he was voted the person most likely to get the death penalty!

However, a friendship arises between them all and everything is fine, until one day Brontè cuts her hand quite badly………..and then it is gone, and Brewster shows up with a sliced hand!

With a F’d up life living with his abusive uncle, this book shows us all 4 lives as they intermingle with each other, as it is told in 4 POV’s one of them being in verse.

Read this book, or something by Neal Shusterman, you will not be disappointed.
