Hello there book friends, I hope you are all doing well in the current circumstances?

I am so happy to be on the blogtour for this fantastic thriller, pick this one up if you can, you won’t regret it!

My Review

Welcome to the book that makes you feel that you have it Allllllll worked out!!

Oh Yes!! There I was reading this shouting at the book (as I do) “IT’S THIS PERSON, I KNOW IT IS, CASE CLOSED!”

Turns out I might have been wrong, all of my smugness took a huge turn when BAM, in comes a twist, and I thought, Hmm didn’t see that coming, and then BAM, in comes another one, and to top it off BAM here’s another one to add to the pile.

So, I don’t feel so smug anymore, as I had no idea LOL

This is a difficult one to review as I don’t want to add any unintentional spoilers, so all you need to know is this:

Anna is a newsreader
Jack is a DCI
Jack and Anna were married
Jack and Anna are now divorced
A murder brings them both together again
One of them could be involved
One of them could be lying
Secrets and lies a-plenty

If you love a twisty thriller that will keep you on your toes, and your head spinning, this is the one for you.

Enjoy

Hello book friends, I hope that you are all doing well?

I’m so happy to be on the blog tour for this book, I enjoyed reading it so much, and it really made me think about what I would do in the same situation!

Review

This story is about friends, 3 groups of friends in this case, they have been best friends since the wives met at Antenatal/Parenting classes, and they have been in each others lives ever since, 15 years to be precise. In fact, all of their children are also best friends, and 2 of them are actually dating!

Every week they have a dinner party, some are nice and posh, other times a takeaway, but they swap houses every week, and each week they talk and dream about what they would do if they ever won the lottery.

The 3 couples are in a Syndicate, and each week Lexi collects the money from Jennifer, Fred, Carla and Patrick, but one night there is an argument between them all, while having the usual Saturday dinner night, things get said, and tensions are high, so much so that words are exchanged and Fred, Jennifer, Carla and Patrick pull out of the syndicate and go home.

Jake and Lexi are naturally upset that they have fallen out with their best friends, but carry on with life as usual, Lexi works at the local Citizens Advice and helps lots of underprivileged people with things like debt management, housing, immigration, and landlord-tenant disputes.

As Saturday rolls around as usual, Lexi comes home to a very excited husband, their lottery numbers have come up!!
After a couple of calls to the National Lottery, it is confirmed that they are winners, and they have won £17.8 Million!!!!

Jake has dollar signs in his eyes, listing what he is going to spend the money on, mostly fast cars and expensive holidays, while Lexi is just trying to come to terms with the windfall.

There is just one problem, Jennifer, Fred, Carla and Patrick want a cut of the money!

There are also a few other stories woven into this one very cleverly, and what started out as a compelling read to find out what Lexi’s family was going to do, actually turned into a very suspenseful, gripping read, a few times I shouted NOOOOOO while I was reading it.

This is a fantastic read, and I flew through the book and nearly read it in one sitting, I would thoroughly recommend it.

Q by Christina Dalcha @CVDalcher @HQstories #QBook #OnlyThePerfect

Hello book friends,

I hope you are all staying safe and reading some wonderful books, or if not reading then catching up with your favourite TV shows?

Whatever you are doing, I hope that you are all doing ok.

I’m happy to bring you a review for this fabulous Dystopian read, from the author that brought you VOX.

43247722._SY475_

My Review

Welcome to the scary mind of Christina Dalcher, buckle up buttercup, it’s a bumpy ride!

Elena Fairchild is a teacher at a Silver school, this is an elite school for children, and teachers that have a high Q (IQ) score.

She is married to Malcolm who works in the Department of Education, and has two beautiful daughters Anne and Freddie.
Elena’s Q score automatically gets a bump-up for being married, and for Malcolm having such a high profile job.

Both of her daughters are at the silver school, they are both doing very well with their education, although Freddie sometimes needs a little help.

But, what happens to those people with lower Q scores?

Well with a high Q you get higher privileges, quicker lines at the supermarkets, better jobs, better neighbourhoods etc.

Depending how low the Q scores are, they can go down into the Green section, or if it is really low, the Yellow section.

With monthly testing, it is within your best interest to keep your Q score up, everyone can see everyone else’s scores too, so there is an added incentive to keep your score high, or higher than your friends & neighbours.

It is time for the monthly Q test, and Elena is naturally worried for her kids, not so much Anne who is obsessed with everyone else’s scores, and who is also Malcolm’s favourite child, she is the brightest of the two children, Freddie however seems to be a very anxious child and is prone to episodes of blocking people out, she is not looking forward to the test.

Every child looks out for their school bus, but always keep their heads down when they see the Yellow Bus arrive, you see, the Yellow bus as I mentioned before signifies that you or your child got a very low Q score, you will then be collected by the Yellow Bus and taken to a school/job that you are more ‘suited’ to out of the area/county, what that really means is “out of sight, out of mind” these people do not tend to come back!

It doesn’t really matter when it happens to somebody else’s kids, but when Freddie gets her Yellow Card through the post. Elena seems to realise that she may never see her daughter again, and she seems to be the only one bothered by it!

I really enjoyed this dystopian read, and it really made me think about where I would be in this hierarchy, I definitely think I would have been on the Yellow Bus!!

Elena Fairchild is a teacher at one of the state’s new elite schools. Her daughters are exactly like her: beautiful, ambitious, and perfect. A good thing, since the recent mandate that’s swept the country is all about perfection.
Now everyone must undergo routine tests for their quotient, Q, and any children who don’t measure up are placed into new government schools. Instead, teachers can focus on the gifted. Elena tells herself it’s not about eugenics, not really, but when one of her daughters scores lower than expected and is taken away, she intentionally fails her own test to go with her.
But what Elena discovers is far more terrifying than she ever imagined…

The Silent Treatment by Abbie Greaves @AbbieGreaves1 @NetGalley_UK @CornerstoneRH #TheSilentTreatment #BookReview

Hello book friends,
I hope you are all doing well in lockdown and staying safe?

I’m so happy to bring you my review for this lovely book.

51194669._SX318_SY475_

My Review

This was such a heartwarming, and also heartbreaking read.

It follows the story of a married couple, Frank and Maggie, seemingly going about their normal day, the book jumps right in to Maggie preparing the evening meal for her and Frank, it then takes a bit more of a sinister turn, when Maggie just sits down at the kitchen table and starts emptying multiple packets of sleeping pills to take. Frank is unaware of what his wife is doing, and he is upstairs playing solitaire on his computer.

You see, even though Maggie and Frank have been happily married for 40 years, for the last 6 months, they haven’t spoken to each other, at all!

When the smoke alarm goes off and doesn’t stop, Frank goes to investigate, and finds Maggie slumped in her chair, with the packets of pills beside her.
After being rushed to hospital she is placed into a medically induced coma, and Frank is told that she might not pull through and that he should encourage her to wake up by talking to her.

But what do you say to someone that you haven’t spoken to for 6 months?

And so Frank begins to tell Maggie the story of them, how they met, and all that has happened in between, but can he eventually tell her why they stopped taking?

We see Maggie and Frank through both of their eyes, and the story they tell is so beautiful, and heartbreaking, and so cleverly written, I was genuinely invested in their marriage.

Please grab this one when you can, you will not be disappointed!

Synopsis

Resonant with the emotional power of the bestselling novels of David Nicholls and Jojo Moyes, a rich and poignant debut about lies, loss, and a transcendent love at the heart of a troubled marriage.
A lifetime together.
Six months of silence.
One last chance.
By all appearances, Frank and Maggie share a happy, loving marriage. But for the past six months, they have not spoken. Not a sentence, not a single word. Maggie isn’t sure what, exactly, provoked Frank’s silence, though she has a few ideas.
Day after day, they have eaten meals together and slept in the same bed in an increasingly uncomfortable silence that has become, for Maggie, deafening.
Then Frank finds Maggie collapsed in the kitchen, unconscious, an empty package of sleeping pills on the table. Rushed to the hospital, she is placed in a medically induced coma while the doctors assess the damage.
If she regains consciousness, Maggie may never be the same. Though he is overwhelmed at the thought of losing his wife, will Frank be able to find his voice once again—and explain his withdrawal—or is it too late?

The Dilemma by B A Paris @BAParisAuthor @HQstories #TheDilemma #BAParis #BookReview #BlogTour

Hello Book Friends,

I’m so please to be able to be on the Blog tour for this incredible read, I had so many emotions reading this, and I may have even shed a tear or two.

43798285

My Thoughts

Well knock me down with a feather, only 3 books in 2019 made me have feelings, I said 2 in my previous post but I remembered another one lol.

This book made me have such a range of emotions, and it is going to be really difficult to write about it because you absolutely have to go into this book blind, my suggestion would be don’t read ANY reviews (except this one of course) as you don’t want to catch an accidental spoiler.

The story is centered around a 40th birthday party that is for Livia, she has been literally planning this party for 20 years, she didn’t get to have the big extravagant wedding that she wanted, so this is something that is very close to heart, and she hasn’t spared any expense.

Her friends and family all know about her big party obsession and have just left her to revel in the organising for her big day, after all you are not 40 every day.

Livia’s husband Adam and her two children Marnie and Josh are well aware how important this day is Livia, and have done their best to fit in and help where they can.

With friends, family, colleagues and a few surprise guests arranged to arrive to the party, what could possibly go wrong?

This story is so cleverly written that you almost don’t see the twist coming, I had that puppet face when it did, you know, this one –

44582454._SY475_

B A Paris has written such a clever book, because it is such a difficult choice to make, and without going into any spoilers, I know that is really vague, #SorryNotSorry

Honestly grab this one when you can, you won’t regret it, I’ve already pre-ordered the audiobook so I can listen to it as well!

**Thank you so much to HQ Stories and B.A. Paris for sending me the gorgeous copy of the book.

Hello again book friends,

Well Ms Hoover did it again and made my black heart melt

My Thoughts

43798285

Just as I was finishing the year with Zero tears spilled on a book, 2 of them come along at the same time and wipe me out!

This one was just such a good story, with the usual CoHo WTF thrown in, I was shouting at my phone so many times (I listened to the audiobook obvs)

This is a story of a mother (Morgan) and daughter (Clara), and was written so well. Morgan got pregnant and married young, something that Clara absolutely doesn’t want to do, she has goals and aspirations, something that her mother had once, but put on hold to have her.

Clara’s father Chris is the glue that holds the family together, and they all live in a perfect family bubble.

Until one day.

An accident brings the family dynamic to a screeching halt.

With Morgan and Clara at loggerheads, Morgan has secrets that she cannot discuss with Clara, and Clara has her own secrets that she needs to hide.

Secrets, Lies and other things I can’t discuss because of spoilers, make this a book that you should definitely add to your TBR.

🎧🎧

The audiobook was narrated by Tanya Eby and Lauren Ezzo who were just perfect for the characters, they slipped from Mom to Teenager so brilliantly.

This book is well worth a credit.

Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike.
Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.
With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris – Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father, and the family anchor. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara.
While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see. With each passing day, new secrets, resentment, and misunderstandings make mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.

We Met in December by Rosie Curtis @karamina @avonbooksuk @HarperCollinsUK #WeMetInDecember #RosieCurtis

Hello book friends,

I’m super happy to bring you my review for the audiobook that has been released for this lovely story – if it sounds slightly familiar, it is because Berit reviewed the book a few weeks ago Here.

Thank you to Avon books UK for choosing me for this Audio Tour.

44285798

My Thoughts

This was a lovely slow burn romance book told from the POV of Jess and Alex.

Jess is 29 and has recently moved to London for a new job opportunity, she can’t afford to pay the extortionate rental prices there, so she rents a room in a house with new housemates.

After arriving at the house and being introduced to everyone, she notices Alex, the male nurse who is sharing her floor with her and thinks Yummy!

There wasn’t insta-love so much as an insta-connection, but Jess is fully aware of the house rules that have been set for everyone, and one of those, is NO RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN HOUSEMATES.

So that’s that!

But is isn’t quite, Jess and Alex bond as friends and often go around exploring London and all of it’s hidden gems, but Alex is secretly seeing one of the housemates Emma, much to Jess’s dismay, and because she has been ‘friend-zoned’ decides to try her hand at online dating, to which Alex is a little crestfallen as he secretly likes Jess.

Although this is called We met In December, it is not a Christmassy book as the book spans a whole year between the characters, and throughout gives a will-they-won’t-they vibe.

But I will say that the snippets about Christmas and the way that the author describes London at that time of year, really got me into the Xmas spirit.

🎧🎧

Narrated by Finlay Robertson and Jessica Preddy, who both did fantastic jobs, I was thoroughly entertained throughout the whole book and will definitely look for books narrated by them again.

🅳🅾🅽🆃 🆁🅴🅰🅳 🆃🅷🅸🆂 🅰🆃 🅱🅴🅳🆃🅸🅼🅴

Grab snacks, and anything else you might need before diving into this one, go to the loo before, you have been warned!

This one will keep you on the edge of your seat, I shouted ‘oh no’ more than once reading this!

It starts out a little slow, but then the pace kicks in, and you are running full force for the rest of the story.

Tom and Rachel are married, however they are slowly breaking down, their teenage son died in a car accident, and the blame and hurt are slowly creeping into their marriage, and neither of them really know what to do.

On top of the guilt for their sons accident, their 13 year old daughter was involved in a mugging and although she says she is ok, her swollen face from where the mugger punched her, makes the guilt rear it’s ugly face once more.

A family friend offers the family to get away and stay in a lodge that he has in a remote place in Scotland, and although Tom isn’t really up for it, they agree as it will give them to have time as a family together, as Tom has recently moved out of the family home to give him and Rachel some space to sort things out in their own heads.

The lodge is amazing, all mod-cons and fancy-pants, with a great big gate to stop other people from coming in.

They have a fab evening and all got to bed as usual, but then they hear a window being broken, and when going to investigate, Tom sees 2 masked men walking around downstairs!!

Tom, Rachel, Holly and Buster the dog have to try and find a way out of the house and to safety, but how can you do that when you are in the middle of nowhere, with no phone signal, and gates the that are supposed to keep people out, are the ones keeping you in?

A thrill-a-minute read, strap yourself in!

Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow @RonanFarrow @HachetteAudio #CatchAndKill #RonanFarrow #BookReview

Hello again Book Friends,

Well if there was any book that you should add to your TBR or just grab ASAP then this one is it in spades!!!

Ronan Farrow has created a book that reads like a spy thriller, the thing is, all of it is true, from the NDA’s to the Russian Spies.

47167749._SY475_

My Thoughts

🅽🅾🆃 🅰🅻🅻 🅷🅴🆁🅾🆂 🆆🅴🅰🆁 🅲🅰🅿🅴🆂

If you have been living in a cave, or under a rock then let me tell you a little about Mr Farrow, as per our good friend Wikipedia…

Satchel Ronan O’Sullivan Farrow (born December 19, 1987) is an American journalist. Farrow is the son of actress Mia Farrow and filmmaker Woody Allen.

In late 2017, Farrow’s articles in The New Yorker helped uncover the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse allegations. For this reporting, The New Yorker won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, sharing the award with The New York Times. His subsequent investigations exposed similar allegations against Eric Schneiderman and Les Moonves, which led to the resignations of both in 2018. Farrow also investigated the concealment by the M.I.T. Media Lab of its involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, leading to the resignation of the director of the Media Lab, Joi Ito, and an internal investigation by M.I.T.

In other words, he’s a damn HERO!!!

After going down the Ronan rabbit hole for a while and watching many interviews with him, he seems a very well spoken, very intelligent and very clever man, he dots his I’s and crosses his T’s, and is extremely conscientious.

This is the story of how a young man, armed with morals and a backbone the size and strength of a T-Rex, managed to bring down the raping, abusing, disgusting pig of a man, that we all know by another name, Harvey Weinstein.

Farrow is a man, that kept everyone’s secrets, and never divulged information to anyone if they had asked him not to.

It started with Rose Mcgowan (another hero) and that ball kept rolling, he was pretty much stopped at every turn, including from his own company who had originally asked him to report about this in the first place!

He had so much information that it was near on impossible to disprove, yet Weinstein was still able to pay off companies, and people FOR YEARS!!!

This book was fascinating, as well as angering, how these people manage to get so ‘God Like’ that they can do damn near whatever they want, or fear the consequences.

🎧🎧

Narrated by Mr Farrow himself, who if he ever find himself out of the journalism field, could easily make a career out of narrating, he was AMAZING!

What is also so special about the audiobook, is that, not only do you have the author narrating his own words, he has managed to put in an audio-clip of Weinstein, trying to talk a young actress into his hotel room, and It. Is. Chilling!!

I would love to say that the disgusting rapist is in jail and off of the streets, but unfortunately as you may have seen this week, he is still wandering around, happy as Larry, being invited to events, but people are not so happy about this.

The fact that HW is still surrounded by women is mind blowing.

Just because you are friends with a shark, don’t mean that it won’t bite you one day!

Enjoy

About the Book

Amazon UK*

Amazon U.S

In a dramatic account of violence and espionage, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Ronan Farrow exposes serial abusers and a cabal of powerful interests hell-bent on covering up the truth, at any cost.
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led Ronan Farrow to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.
All the while, Farrow and his producer faced a degree of resistance they could not explain — until now. And a trail of clues revealed corruption and cover-ups from Hollywood to Washington and beyond.
This is the untold story of the exotic tactics of surveillance and intimidation deployed by wealthy and connected men to threaten journalists, evade accountability, and silence victims of abuse. And it’s the story of the women who risked everything to expose the truth and spark a global movement.

Both a spy thriller and a meticulous work of investigative journalism, Catch and Kill breaks devastating new stories about the rampant abuse of power and sheds far-reaching light on investigations that shook our culture.

My heart just about broke in half reading this book

Scars Like Wings follows 16 yr old Ava Lee a year after she was horrifically burned in a house fire, that took the life of her parents, and her best friend.

She lost everything that day, her home, her family and even her identity, because now she doesn’t even look like herself, as although Ava was pulled out of the fire, she sustained 60% of burns across her whole body.

After many, many operations (19) her aunt and uncle who she now lives with, decide that it would be best for her to go back to school, to put some “normal” back into her life.

But Ava doesn’t look normal, she knows this, and so does everyone else that stares at her and call her names.

After nearly giving up on the whole school situation, Ava meets a girl called Piper who is a fellow survivor, and later a boy called Asad, who is a theatre nerd just like her.

But soon Ava discovers that some scars on the inside are not always so easy to see.

I was sobbing reading this book, there were some truly touching moments, and I read the whole book pretty much like this:

Publish Date: 03 October 2019.
16-year-old Ava Lee is heading back to school one year after a house fire left her severely disfigured. She’s used to the names, the stares, the discomfort, but there’s one name she hates most of all: Survivor. What do you call someone who didn’t mean to survive? Who sometimes wishes she hadn’t?
When she meets a fellow survivor named Piper at therapy, Ava begins to feel like she’s not facing the nightmare alone. Piper helps Ava reclaim the pieces of Ava Before the Fire, a normal girl who kissed boys and sang on stage. But Piper is fighting her own battle, and when Ava almost loses her best friend, she must decide if the new normal she’s chasing has more to do with the girl in the mirror — or the people by her side.
