Born in Montreal but raised in New England, author Michelle L. E. Price has been writing as long as anyone can remember. An avid reader who was on the verge of losing her mind as a mom to two small children, Michelle began writing her first book, Hidden in the Writer’s Room, as an escape… at least her characters would do exactly what she told them to do and she could always count on a happily ever after ending. She also enjoys wine, re-watching 90’s sitcoms and occasionally running, but heavily relies on writing to stay sane. Michelle is a firm believer that laughter and love are the best parts of life.

The Ticklemore Toy Shop by Liz Davies **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Sunday all!

I’ve got another feel good festive read for you today!🎄

The Ticklemore Christmas Toy Shop

You’re never too old to fall in love…

There is a disturbance in the force and octogenarian Hattie Jenkins can feel it in her water. Still active and spritely, she guesses that the miserable-looking gentleman sitting morosely in the café where she works, might be the reason.

Widowed Alfred Miller has recently moved in with his daughter because she is worried that he’s becoming too frail and forgetful to look after himself. And he’s not in the least bit happy about it, especially since his home is soon be cleared and sold.

But when he enlists Hattie’s help to save some of his precious belongings, he doesn’t realise that Hattie’s mission is to save more than a few sticks of furniture. She’s on a mission to save him, too.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on
Our troubles will be out of sight

These lyrics so accurately describe how I felt when reading this book. My heart was definitely merry and light and I had a feeling that my troubles could possibly soon be out of sight. And I think we all could use a little more comfort and cheer in our lives right now especially those of us in the US. Alfred has recently moved in with his daughter Sarah who is extremely concerned about her 80-year-old father‘s health. Alfred has not been the same since the death of his wife three years ago. He is pretty certain he does not have dementia and is less than thrilled with his daughter trying to micromanage his life. Hattie is a spry spunky 80-year-old who is still working at the local book/coffee shop. When she crosses paths with Alfred she is put off by his gruff exterior but sees the lonely man under all that grump. When Hattie discovers all the charming wooden toys Alfred has made throughout the years hiding in his shed she hatches a plan. With the help of many locals and the convincing of Alfred the Ticklemore Toy Shop is born. Hattie and Alfred will both find their way into your heart. They both are a little rough around the edges, but both also have huge hearts. The wooden toys sounded so wonderful I wanted to hop on line and look for this toyshop’s website so I could purchase one for myself. All the secondary characters were delightful, I particularly liked Lexi a 17-year-old who came to work in the toy shop. The village was as whimsical and festive as you want a small town to be during Christmas. The friendship/romance between Hattie and Alfred was so sweet and pure. This was such a lovely story perfect for a peaceful afternoon of reading.

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.

She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat – she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.

She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper can and travel the world in it.

Summer at My Sisters by Emily Harvale **Pub Day** @rararesources @emilyharvale

Happiest of publication days to one of my absolute favorites!

Emily Harvale is one of my must-read authors and I am looking so forward to diving into this delightful book! Be on the lookout for my review on August 23🍉

Summer at my Sister’s

Twin sisters. One scorching summer.

A bucketful of secrets.

Diana’s life is perfect. Her twin sister, Josie’s – not so much.

Diana has a rich and successful husband, two talented youngsters and an adorable dog. She always looks as if she’s stepped from the cover of a magazine. Her immaculate second home by the sea, for idyllic summers with her perfect family, was actually featured in one.

Josie has a messy, compact flat, dates, but not relationships, and she can’t even keep a houseplant alive. She moves from job to job, goes clubbing with her friends and often looks as if she’s fallen through a hedge.

Although Josie loves Diana deeply, each year she declines the invitation to spend the summer with her sister. Or any other family holiday. Because Josie has a secret.

But is Diana’s life so perfect? Or is she also hiding something? When secrets are revealed this summer, everything will change. Josie could finally have the life she’s always wanted … if she’s brave enough to take a chance.

An exciting update from Emily Harvale

I apologise if you haven’t seen me on social media very much recently but I’ve been exceptionally busy working on lots of exciting stuff (technical term) 😂🤩 for my new book, my website … and a map for my new series of standalone stories set in the tiny village of Seahorse Harbour.

The map will ‘go live’ on July 31st, publication day for the first in the series, which is … yep, you guessed it, Summer at my sister’s. Let me explain a bit more.

Summer at my sister’s was originally a standalone, but then I had an idea for a Christmas book, so it became a two-book series, with Book 2 featuring a couple of new characters and most of the characters from Summer at my sister’s (with me so far?) ……

Then …. I had an idea for another completely separate story set in the same village (which I’m writing at the mo.) This one has new characters.

So now, each story in this series will be a standalone with new characters … but as each book is set in Seahorse Harbour, you’ll be able to ‘see’ what’s going on with the characters from the previous books, because you can’t help but bump into people in a tiny village, can you?

I have to say, I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!😍🤩💖🥰 I’ve got so many story ideas, although I’ve only written 2 of the books so far, Summer at my sister’s and the Christmas book, which is called …..

Wait for it……(no, that’s not the title)

Christmas at Aunt Elsie’s

This Christmas book will be available for pre-order from early August. 💖🤩🥰😍

Did I mention that I love this series? And yes – I’m just a little bit over-excited. I can’t wait to share these fabulously feel-good stories with you. I hope you’re a little bit excited too. 🤩💖 xxx

Excerpt

Thank you so much for allowing me to share a little extract from my new book, Summer at my Sister’s.

This is where Josie Parnell is on her way to her twin sister, Diana’s house but stops for a while and meets up with Liam Fulbright – a man she hasn’t seen since he married the most beautiful girl in the world (in Josie’s opinion) when he was just nineteen.

I decided to sit for a while beneath the ancient Oak in the centre of the village, and right in front of the church. From here there was a view directly out to sea and I watched a yacht bob along in the distance and seagulls soar and swoop low over the glass-like, turquoise water. I breathed deeply, pushed my sunglasses onto the top of my head, shoving back the tumbles of wavy red hair and closed my eyes, suddenly remembering long-ago summers. I heard someone walking past but I kept my eyes closed. Until I heard my name.

‘Josie? Is that you?’

My eyes shot open at the sound of a man’s voice. It sounded a lot like Liam Fulbright’s had all those years ago, only deeper, stronger and more commanding somehow. But the man standing in front of me looked nothing like the Liam I remembered. Liam had been tall and gangly and never quite as tanned as everyone else. His hair was always short, as if the scissors had taken fright and cut off far too much. Bits of it stuck out everywhere, a bit like a porcupine. His eyes were dark blue, but nothing to write home about, especially as they appeared more bulbous thanks to the thick glasses he wore. But I had always thought there was something simmering just beneath the surface and that one day, whatever it was, would burst forth and Liam would be transformed.

It seemed I was right. Unless this wasn’t Liam Fulbright.

‘It’s Liam. Liam Fulbright. I don’t suppose you remember me? We spent several summers together, a lifetime ago. Becca told my daughter, Orla you were coming. You haven’t changed a bit. Except, perhaps your hair. I think it was chestnut brown in those days.’ His smile was warm and friendly.

I shaded my eyes from the sun.

‘Liam Fulbright? Really? Wow.’

I put on my sunglasses so that I could see him better and got to my feet. He towered over me. But then so did everyone. Diana and I stopped growing when we reached five foot three.

‘Don’t tell me you’ve walked from the station?’

‘What? Oh. Er. No. I took a taxi but stopped for a quick drink at The Seahorse Inn.’

‘And ended up on the bench here? Just the one drink? Or did you have several?’

I didn’t answer immediately. I was still trying to take in how much he had changed.

‘Er. No. Just one. But I think the jet lag and heat is getting to me.’

‘So you stopped to admire the view.’ He half-turned to look at the sea and then his eyes focussed on me again.

‘Well, it is a rather gorgeous view,’ I said, scanning him from the tips of his black, Converse trainers to the roots of his lustrous chocolate-brown hair.

Gone was the spiky haircut and in its place, soft, natural waves sat around a deeply tanned and exceedingly handsome face. The firm jaw held a hint of stubble, the dark blue eyes, sparkling in the bright sunlight were free of glasses and when he smiled, his sensuous-looking lips parted to reveal perfect, naturally white teeth. He was at least six foot or more and his legs were long in his jeans. His pale blue cotton shirt, although not tight, showed that his chest and shoulders were broad and his forearms, where the sleeves had been rolled back, were certainly toned. Not in a body-builder way, but in a way that made it clear Liam Fulbright was no slouch.

‘I agree with you on that,’ he said. ‘I couldn’t imagine living anywhere but here and seeing that view every day.’

‘No. I could easily get used to a view like this. I mean, like that. The sea. The sea view is gorgeous. Er … I was so sorry to hear about Una. I should’ve sent a card or something. Sorry. I’m a terrible person, I know.’

He reached out and touched my shoulder and I swear to you, my skin seared beneath his hand. Or perhaps my shoulders had got sunburnt. I was wearing a sleeveless blouse and I’m not sure how long I was sitting on that bench in the full midday sun.

‘No you’re not, Josie.’ His voice changed tone. I could detect a hint of anger. ‘To be honest, I wouldn’t have known if you had or not. I was in a bit of a state and didn’t really take in anything at the time. Everything was a bit of a blur.’

Thank you for taking the time to read this extract. I hope you enjoyed it.

And thank you, lovely, for sharing this on your blog. xxx

The Cornish Secrets of Summer’s Promise by Laura Briggs @paperdollwrites @rararesources #bookreview #pubday

Happy Wednesday and happy hump day to this fabulous book!

Laura Briggs is a definite must read author for me! I just love her characters, her storylines, and her settings! This was another fun Siri set in Cornwall!

The Cornish Secret of Summer’s Promise

As spring slips away from the hotel Penmarrow, excitement builds for an exclusive auction hosted at the hotel, featuring priceless possessions from a Hollywood actress turned lady of the manor, including her famous diamonds. Celebrities and collectors form a crowd that is keeping Maisie and the rest of staff busy, even as Maisie faces a crossroads for her manuscript.

But when the diamonds are stolen and Sidney is accused by the authorities, Maisie’s dilemma as a writer is pushed aside out of fear that his future in Port Hewer is in jeopardy. Desperation to prove that someone else is behind the theft will lead Maisie to uncover a very different secret outside of jewel thieves and village rumors … one that could change her life and her future forever.

Can Maisie deal with the latest secrets exposed — including those that paint Sidney’s past in a questionable light? And as summer’s dawn alters her idyllic life in Cornwall, will Maisie’s feelings for Sidney change as well?

My Thoughts

A cozy mystery all wrapped up in a cozy romance. Cornwall, A hotel, an art exhibition, a jewelry heist, a false accusation, an elusive author, a budding romance, a private detective, a master thief, an amazing opportunity. LaurA Briggs is the master of creating charming characters, clever storylines, and delightful settings. This is the fourth book in the Hotel in Cornwall series. It can possibly be read as a standalone, but I think you would get more out of it if you have read the prior books.

Maisie is an American living in Cornwall. She came to Cornwall to find her favorite author and ended up working in this lovely hotel. She also met a man name Sydney and has started falling in love with him. In this story the hotel hosts an exhibition where there is a jewelry heist. Not only is Sydney accused of this crime, but Maisie also finds out about his sordid past. Maisie is convinced that Sydney is not guilty so she is determined to solve the crime and prove his innocence. This book was more Mystery than romance, but it was still cozy fun and heartwarming! It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but the next book is coming out in April, so we don’t need to wait too long to find out what’s going to happen next.

Hello book friends,

Super happy to bring you a review for this cracker of a thriller, I was completely blown away with this book.

Happy Publication Day to S.E. Lynes!

My Thoughts

Wow, what a crazy ride that was!

After meeting both Samantha and Peter on their no-so-happy honeymoon, we then get flashed back in time to when they met.

Samantha is a normal student, she likes to go out drinking and having fun with her friends.

When the handsome lecturer Peter sidles up behind her and starts to show her some attention, she is of course flattered, he is after all, the sexy man that all of the girls have their eyes on.

He is a very well-knowledged man, and although he didn’t actually call her stupid, she feels it, and he definitely didn’t imply it…did he?

The attraction between them is palpable, and a very quick relationship is formed, so much so, that Samantha is moving in with Peter within a week of meeting him!

She soon learns that living together is very difficult, I mean she’s never lived with anyone before, so it is only right that he tells her when she is doing something wrong, like eating at the wrong times, or taking too long in the shower.

Only someone that really loves you would make sure that you are reading the correct literary fiction instead of that “propagandist tosh” in her women’s magazines.

He is a very clever man, and appreciates things like a glass of red wine every night (that he has chosen), with the dinner (that he has cooked), and after the meal they have (he has) a strict 10 o’clock bed time (after sex of course) routine.

And she really is happy…….right?

After starting her new job as a Creative writing teacher (that Peter kindly got for her), she starts to receive poems that make her very uncomfortable, are they from one of her students? they could be I suppose, but then, that would mean that the person writing them knows about her life, how can someone else know what is going through her own head?

I was totally gripped by this book, I could clearly see the red flags, they were there for all to see, except Samantha didn’t, and unfortunately (myself included) unless you have been in this situation, the flags do not show until you are at rock bottom.

A fantastic read, grab it ASAP!!

**Many thanks to The author, Bookouture, and Netgalley for my copy of the book**

About the book

The Women
by S.E. Lynes
The night she moves in with Peter, she’s so happy, so exhilarated, so in love. Later, she will remember a much smaller feeling, a tiny one percent in her gut. And she will remember pushing that feeling aside…

Samantha Frayn doesn’t know why Peter Bridges picks her – a nobody with bitten fingernails and a troubled childhood behind her – but she falls quickly. He’s older, charming, likes fine wine and French films, and his beautiful home has real art on its walls.

Peter transforms Samantha’s life in an instant. He sees the better version of herself – the one she’s always wanted to be. It’s only normal that there’s a little friction, when she moves in, over domestic matters like where things are kept, or the proper times to eat, sleep and shower. She’s lucky to be with someone who can help her find a new job, move on from childish friends, and speak with greater sophistication.

But as Samantha notices, more and more, Peter’s temper, she starts to wonder if there might be consequences to breaking the rules of the world he has so quickly built around her.

And then she receives an anonymous note that makes her ask: is she the first woman to feel trapped by Peter? Is she being paranoid, manipulated, or could she be in danger?

You can tell the truth about your life, but someone needs to be listening. Someone needs to trust you. And someone needs to save you from the man you thought you loved.

Thrilled to be on the blog tour for this delightful compilation of wonderful stories! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation and to Laura Briggs for her enchanting words💛

A Wedding in Cornwall

A Wedding in Cornwall (Books 7—12)

The last six novellas in the UK bestselling series A WEDDING IN CORNWALL are now available in one collection! Join American event planner Julianne in her final set of adventures ‘across the pond’ in beautiful Cornwall. From celebrity sightings to a local talent show, from a charming village fete to a secret Cornish garden, there’s never a dull moment for Julianne and her Poldark-esque true love Matthew in the quaint village of Ceffylgwyn.

This collection contains A Romance in Cornwall, A Star in Cornwall, A Sewing Circle in Cornwall, A Talent Show in Cornwall, An American in Cornwall, and A Garden in Cornwall. Exclusive bonus materials include a sneak peek of the author’s all-new 2019 Cornish romance series!

My Thoughts

Charming! Delightful! Enchanting!

This is a compilation of the last six novellas in the A WEDDING IN CORNWALL series… now full disclosure I have not read every novella as of yet, but I am absolutely planning on it! In the lead up to the blog tour I read a few from the first half of the series as well as a view from this half… now Novellas are tough to review generally because they’re well… short… so I thought rather them rehash each individual novella I’d give you my overall impression…

First of all I LOVE this little Cornish town! With a name I had to triple check that I spelled correctly, Cheffylgwyn…. is that right? Filled with quirky and enthusiastic characters that you would love to get to know… each story is a little different… however many characters make an appearance in all the books, with the main characters being Julianne and Mathew…. I really liked these two from the first book going forward, and truly was a little disappointed when they didn’t have that big of a part in some of the subsequent books…. this series kind of reminded me of a much loved television show, with different guests in each episode… we had celebrities, romance authors, bake off’s, and so much more….

These Novellas are a perfect afternoon read when you want a little getaway… The writing is so smooth and easy, and the pacing is perfect… what more can you ask for? Wonderful riding, interesting storyline, fabulous characters, and an absolutely charming setting! Not exactly sure where Cornwall is in England, but every book I read that takes place there is divine! Absolutely recommend for a quick little timeout from reality!

4.5 Startling Stars🌟 When the Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica @MaryKubica @HarlequinBooks #BookReview #PubDay

Happy Tuesday that seems like a Monday! Those long weekends always throw me off!

Thrilled to share with you my review for this suspense filled book with a bit of a controversial ending, that I personally loved!💕

When the Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica

My Thoughts

4.5 Startling Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

WOW! Whether intentional or not this book definitely has an ending that has caused some controversy… for me the ending was absolute PERFECTION! It made every piece of the puzzle in this book fall into place and make complete sense….I’ve read other reviews and people described their reaction to the twist as a gasp, or frustration, or pure hatred… not me… my reaction was…. AHA! now I understand….. now I get what ____ was,And why ____ happened! This is not to say I don’t understand why this ending did not appeal to everybody, because I do… but I think everyone needs to read the book and figure out if it works for them or not….

This was my very first Mary Kubica Book… and I’m not sure why, but I can guarantee I will remedy that real quick…. her writing was so beautiful and smooth, almost lyrical…. even though this was a slow burning suspense I found the pacing perfect… The characters were so well drawn and relatable… I empathized with Eden’s struggles and felt Jessie’s grief…. all the little hints sprinkled throughout this book that made that ending so perfect for me, were just brilliant….

Told from Jesse’s point of view in the present and Eden’s point of view in 1996…. Jesse is a young 20-year-old grieving the loss of her mother and trying to figure out who she really is… literally trying to figure out who she is, after finding out that her Social Security number belongs to a dead girl… eden is a young wife struggling with infertility…. my mind ran through so many scenarios as to who Jesse really was and what Eden had done…. both mother and daughter had tremendous love and respect for one another… you just wanted there to be a good answer for all of your questions….

Absolutely recommend to those who enjoy a good suspense thriller filled with some surprising twists….

*** many thanks to Harlequin for my copy of this book ***

The Mysterious Lord Millcroft by Virginia Heath @VirginiaHeath_ @rararesources #PubDay #Giveaway #AuthorChat

The Mysterious Lord MillcroftThe Mysterious Lord Millcroft

Life as a duchess…
Or something much more dangerous…?

Part of The King’s Elite. Constantly told her beauty and charm is all she has to offer, Lady Clarissa is intent on marrying a duke. And intriguing spy Sebastian Leatham will help her! Only first she’ll assist him with his new assignment—playing the part of confident aristocrat Lord Millcroft. Sebastian awakens a burning desire within Clarissa which leaves her questioning whether becoming a duchess is what she truly longs for…

The Mysterious Lord Millcroft Cover

Virginia Heath on her latest book:  Never Can Say Goodbye

The trouble with my characters is I fall in love with them, and then I lie awake at night wondering what happens to them once a book is finished. This is particularly pertinent when it comes to the side characters. I first met the hero of The Mysterious Lord Millcroft, Seb Leatham, in the final book of my Wild Warriners quartet. He was brave, loyal, a fearless spy and painfully shy around women. From the first time he appeared on the page, I adored him and knew I had to write his story.

But who to match him up to? He was painfully shy and socially awkward…

As I pondered this, another former side character kept badgering me to be his heroine. Initially, I ignored her. Lady Clarissa Beaumont was the spoiled sister of my troubled heroine in the third Wild Warriner book. Lauded as an incomparable by society. A young woman who adores attention and social occasions. A bit vain. Initially superficial- but she began to grow by the end of that book and I suspected there was a very good reason why she acted the way she did. Because it was an act. Of that I was certain.

Seb and Clarissa seemed like an incongruous paring, but I listened to her and began writing the book, quietly confident I would have to change the heroine within the first few pages. Yet, from the outset, when he stumbles across her smeared with jam, they were perfect for each other. Opposites who have far more in common than they could ever imagine.

Thanks to a staff-shortage at the King’s Elite, Seb is sent on a mission which he feels ill-prepared for. Instead of blending into the shadows which he excels at, he is force to pose as a titled peer and thrust into the crowded society ballrooms of London where he collides with the beautiful Lady Clarissa again. She’s determined to snare a duke as her husband, thinking that will make her happy. So teaming up with shy Seb to help him navigate and survive the unchartered waters of society prove the perfect way to make her reluctant duke jealous. Except, aside from chasing criminals, Seb and Clarissa go on a journey of discovery in The Mysterious Lord Millcroft, one that ultimately changes them both forever.
