The Edge of Summer cover

My Thoughts

5 BIG BEAUTIFUL BUTTON FILLED STARS!🪡

5 reasons you should read this book.

1️⃣ Viola Shipman is a brilliant storyteller.

2️⃣ this is a beautiful yet heartbreaking story about the love of a mother, and a daughter beginning to understand.

3️⃣ Sutton is a likable relatable character. Her growth throughout the story was wonderful to see.

4️⃣ buttons! You will never learn so much about buttons and you will never have realized that you wanted to know all there is to know. I will honestly never look at a button the same way again.

5️⃣ The setting of Lake Michigan scream summer and the romance is slow and sweet.

2 reasons you should listen to this book.

🎧 Nancy Peterson did an amazing job bringing Viola Shipman‘s storytelling to life.

🎧 Nancy also set the perfect tone and pacing for this beautiful story.

It never fails to amaze me that Viola Shipman is a pen name for a male author. He really has such a firm grasp on the female psyche. I also really appreciated how the subject of Covid and the pandemic was handled and addressed in this book. I completely empathize with Sutton as she tries to navigate her “new normal“. The role that buttons played in the story was so unique, well done and interesting. This book seriously made me want to start sewing, something that has never happened before. Tug The love interest in the story is fabulous, you’ve got to love a man that loves baseball and fabric. Another beautiful story from this exceptional author set against the backdrop of Lake Michigan. A definite can’t miss summer read.

*** Big thank you to Grayden House & Harper Audio for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

About the Book

Bestselling author Viola Shipman delights with this captivating summertime escape set along the sparkling shores of Lake Michigan, where a woman searches for clues to her secretive mother’s past

Devastated by the sudden death of her mother—a quiet, loving and intensely private Southern seamstress called Miss Mabel, who overflowed with pearls of Ozarks wisdom but never spoke of her own family—Sutton Douglas makes the impulsive decision to pack up and head north to the Michigan resort town where she believes she’ll find answers to the lifelong questions she’s had about not only her mother’s past but also her own place in the world.

Recalling Miss Mabel’s sewing notions that were her childhood toys, Sutton buys a collection of buttons at an estate sale from Bonnie Lyons, the imposing matriarch of the lakeside community. Propelled by a handful of trinkets left behind by her mother and glimpses into the history of the magical lakeshore town, Sutton becomes tantalized by the possibility that Bonnie is the grandmother she never knew. But is she? As Sutton cautiously befriends Bonnie and is taken into her confidence, she begins to uncover the secrets about her family that Miss Mabel so carefully hid, and about the role that Sutton herself unwittingly played in it all.

Have a fantastic day filled with fabulous books! XO Berit

The Beach Reads Book Club by Kathryn Freeman **Book Review**

Happy Weekend!

Hope life is treating you well!this book is really the ultimate Beach Red for booklovers❣️❣️❣️

The Beach Reads Book Club

Welcome to the Beach Reads Book Club…where love is just a page away…

When Lottie Watt is unceremoniously booted out of her uptight book club for not following the rules, she decides to throw the rulebook out the window and start her own club – one where conversation, gin and cake take precedent over actually having read the book!

The Beach Reads Book Club soon finds a home for its meetings at Books by the Bay, a charming bookshop and café owned by gorgeous, brooding Matthew Steele, and as the book club picks heat up, so too does the attraction between Matt and Lottie.

If there’s anything Lottie has learned from the romances she’s been reading, it’s that the greatest loves are the ones hardest earned.

A love letter to chicklit, romance, romcoms, whatever you want to call them!

My Thoughts

Loved this fun feel good Beach read! I always love books about bookstores, book clubs, and books in general. But usually they highlight books I have never read… you know the classics. This book was a bit of a love letter to the romcom, those lighthearted stories that make you swoon and put a big smile on your face. Lottie decides after getting kicked out of her highbrow book club to start a book club of her own. She thinks the local book shop would be the perfect location for her club to meet, but is hesitant to approach the uptight owner, Mathew. Lottie and Matt are complete opposites, but there is a definite attraction between the two. *swoon* I really loved both of these characters and enjoyed reading about their slow burn romance. The book club members were all fantastic and a special shout out goes to Audrey she was a hoot. This was definitely a book club I would love to join! A sweet romance… the ultimate Beach Red for the booklover!

The Moon Over Kilmore Quay **Book Review**

Hello reading friends!

This book, you guys was so good! But be sure to have some Kleenex handy! 💔

My Thoughts

A beautifully told emotional story. This is my first book by Carmel Harrington but I can guarantee not my last! 2020 Bea is staying home on New Year’s Eve after a bad break up when she receives a time capsule letter from her younger self. This letter seems to have some kind of magical powers and leads to Bea doing some major self reflection. Reaching out to people in her past, righting some wrongs, and ultimately heading to Ireland for some much needed answers. 1992 Lucy and her sister Maeve have just graduated from University when they hear of an opportunity of a lottery to go to America. The sisters cannot believe their luck when they find that they have won the lottery. SO they pack their bags head to New York, leaving all they know and their loving parents behind. Love both these characters and was equally invested in both of the storylines. What I most loved is that both Bea and Lucy had amazing supportive friends. I also really love the magical mystery element of the letter and what a catalyst it was for Bea. This story took some unexpected twists and turns, I loved it from beginning to end. A stunning story that hit me in the heart and gave me all the feels!

About the Book

They say home is where the heart is, yet somehow my heart is split in two. New York, the city I live in and love, and Ireland, the home of my ancestors—somewhere I have lived only in my dreams. And now I have no choice but to go looking…

Brooklyn, New York: Broken-hearted and home alone on New Year’s Eve, Bea O’Connor finds a letter she wrote to herself nearly twenty years before…

In the letter, she’d wished for many things. To never lose touch with her two best friends. For her father to be happier. To one day go back to the picturesque Irish village of Kilmore Quay, so she could find out more about her mother who’d died when Bea was tiny. Bea had also dreamed that she’d one day find love—even if her heart is too fragile since losing Dan to think about that right now.

Impulsively she starts writing new little wishes in the margins of the letter. But as the moon goes down over New York City and another year begins, a little magic seems to be in the air. And, as shocking family secrets come to light and Bea finds herself having to travel to Kilmore Quay at last, some of those wishes start to feel like they really could come true.

Even if fate has one last twist in store…

An absolutely gripping and powerful story that will break your heart into thousands of tiny pieces, perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes, Maeve Binchy and Jean Grainger.

Life’s A Beach by Portia MacIntosh

Hello book friends!

Hope life is treating you well! Portia MacIntosh is a definite auto read author for me! I love her stories they’re filled with just so much whimsy, charm, and fabulous characters!🏖

Life’s A Beach

Life’s A Beach

Sun, sea and inescapable exes…

Peach is excited to hear that her sister, Di, is getting married. Of course, she would have preferred her little sister to be engaged to someone she’s known longer than a week – and the fact that his name is Charles doesn’t bode well – but who is she to judge?! Afterall, her own love life is non-existent, and who doesn’t love a destination wedding…?

Whisked away to the gorgeous Italian coast, Peach assumes her role as chief bridesmaid and, despite her reservations about the groom, she tries to ensure everything goes to plan.

But weddings are never straightforward affairs… throw in some unexpected guests in the form of ex-boyfriends and one night stands, and soon enough there is more drama than a reality tv show.

Can Peach keep the show on the road, or might she end up in a whirlwind romance of her own…?

Escape to the stunning Italian coast with bestseller Portia MacIntosh. Perfect for fans of Sophie Ranald and Mhairi MacFarlane.

My Thoughts

Romcom perfection! That’s it, that’s the review!

I’m kidding, but seriously that’s all you really need to know. Portia MacIntosh writes such whimsical stories filled with such fabulous characters and this might be her best yet! Peach is heading to her baby sister‘s destination wedding when she learns that the best man is someone she knows intimately. Not only that it appears as though she has accidentally invited her sister’s ex-boyfriend to the wedding. And that’s just the Half of it. Additionally little sister Di is marrying a man she’s only known for a week named Charles, nonetheless. At least the wedding is taking place in Italy at a gorgeous villa. But as the guests start arriving the entanglements get Wilder. This was just SO much fun! Peach was such a great character I adored her and I loved her job. Seriously the girl was a secret shopper and got to go visit fancy hotels and eat at five star restaurants for work. The setting of the story was Beautiful! All the characters were so dynamic and well-developed, I’d love to get to know most of them. The story had so many laugh out loud moments, i’m still laughing thinking about it. A perfect beach read that I cannot recommend highly enough!

The Single Moms’ Book Club by Victoria Cook **Book Review** @rararesources

Hello book friends!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! This was such an amazing book the perfect way to end my weekend and kick off my week!💜

About the Book

It’s 8:30am and I’m already utterly exhausted. My son has lost his football boots, my daughter is ready for school dressed only in her vest and knickers, and of course, my 1-year-old has filled his nappy for what feels like the tenth time this morning.

As for my husband? He’s decided marriage doesn’t suit him, and well… buggered off.

All hope of ‘me time’ has but dwindled to sipping half a glass of wine whilst shouting after the kids. But everything is about to change.

I’m taking control of my life! I’ve joined… a book club.

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. ‘Wow… live a little.’ But my fellow book clubbers, Amanda and Janey, are my lifelines. They understand the daily struggle because they’re mothers too.

And in between the prosecco, Doritos and googling everything about Mr Darcy on SparkNotes, they’ve convinced me to go on a date with my boss.

A single mum of three looking for romance… what could possibly go wrong?

A gloriously funny and relatable read for anyone who just needs a little more ‘me time’. Fans of Why Mummy Drinks and Has Anyone Seen my Sex Life? will snort with laughter at this utterly hilarious and heart-warming read.

My Thoughts

SO MUCH FUN! Victoria Cook never disappoints! I said this about the last book I read from her and I’ll say it again, this is the best book I’ve read from Victoria yet! Stephanie is a single mom to three young kids just coming to terms with her year long divorce. After a major breakdown at the grocery store she befriends her neighbor Janey. Out of this friendship a book club is born. Shortly after Amanda and Emily join and the group is dubbed the Single Moms’‘ Book Club. Not only has Stephanie made new friends, but she has also started a new job as a bookkeeper at the local Vet’s office. There appears to be an instant connection between Stephanie and Edward the Vet even though he prefers tweed. But it’s complicated! Stephanie isn’t ready to introduce a new man into her kids lives and it appears as though Edward is taken.

Loved everything about the story! The book club moms were great. I loved their friendships and the way they supported one another. I was even OK with the fact that they didn’t always read the book. The romance was a slow burn, sweet and somewhat awkward. Stephanie was extremely relatable, as a mom and a single mom at that I found her character extremely authentic. Edward was a great love interest a little goofy, but so caring and kind. This was just such a wonderful heartwarming story that made me feel all warm and gooey inside.

Hush Little Girl by Lisa Regan **Book Review** @bookouture

Happy Thursday all!

It is always a good day when I get to review a Josie Quinn book! This is one of my absolute favorite series and the books just keep getting better and better!

My Thoughts

It’s a great day when I get to dive into a new Josie Quinn book! Book 11 and this series is still going strong. Seriously each book is better than the last I don’t know how Lisa Regan does it? Josie and Noah are finally going to tie the knot. That is until the body of a murdered child is found on the church steps. Everyone tries to convince Josie and Noah to go ahead with the Wedding, but Josie has met this girl before. And anyone who knows Josie knows there is no way she’s going to get married when there is a Murder to be solved. A pinecone dolls, a missing child, an undefined thump, A family with countless secrets, A stellar detective team, and plenty of suspects.

Just like the mysteries in all the books in this series this one was perfectly paced and plotted. Loved donning my detective hat and trying to figure the case out along side Josie and team. As much as I enjoy the mysteries in these books my favorite part is the characters and the character development throughout the series. I just knew when I first met Josie back in book one that there was a lot going on with her, and I’ve loved watching her grow and open up throughout the books in the series. This book had some true heartbreak that definitely took me by surprise, heartbreak that had a tremendous impact on Josie. Loved this book and if you are a fan of crime thrillers you will too! Each book can be read as a standalone, but I would strongly encourage you to read this entire series it is truly one of the best. The only thing left to say is… when is book 12 coming out?

About the Book

Dressed in pajamas covered with stars, the little girl’s body is perfectly still, her arms folded neatly over her chest. The wildflowers decorating her hair scatter across the grass in the sharp breeze. Her lips are parted slightly, as if to whisper goodnight for the very last time…

When twelve-year-old Holly Mitchell’s fragile little body is found on the steps of a mountainside church in the small town of Denton, a doll made from pine cones clasped tightly to her chest, Detective Josie Quinn rushes to attend the scene. She knows this little girl’s angelic face, her mother had offered Josie help when she’d needed it most.

Searching the girl’s house, Josie is devastated to find that Holly’s mother is dead too, and her little sister is missing. But why has this family home been stripped of all sharp objects? Re-tracing her steps, Josie finally finds a secret hiding place with Holly’s sister inside, terrified, but alive. Moments later, another doll made of twigs turns up.

Certain the killer is close by, Josie holds the little girl tight and tries to coax answers from her, but it’s clear the pile of burnt photographs and letters found in the greenhouse is her only lead. No one is safe until Josie can figure out the dangerous secret that has escaped this remote family home.

Just when Josie is finally closing in on the killer, the unthinkable happens, a tragedy that shakes her to her very core. And on the windshield of her car: a third wooden doll. Could stopping this twisted monster from taking more innocent lives come at the ultimate price for Josie?

An absolutely gripping rollercoaster ride of a crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

Amelia Unabridged by Ashley Schumacher **Book Review** @wednesdaybooks

Happy Tuesday y’all!

This was such a wonderful story that every book lover will adore! Have some tissue handy!📚

My Thoughts

WOW what a book! A true gem! This book absolutely exceeded my expectations. I’m not certain what I was anticipating but I wasn’t expecting such a beautiful story that pulled on my heartstrings. Amelia and Jenna are BFFs who bonded over their love of books. For their graduation trip the friends go to a book festival with the hopes of meeting the author of their favorite fantasy series. When Jenna happens to meet the enigmatic Author and Amelia doesn’t it causes a rift in the friendship. Jenna is killed in a car accident while visiting Ireland and Amelia is heartbroken that they never really set their friendship right. When Amelia received a mysterious book in the mail from their favorite author she goes on a quest to Michigan to find out how Jenna sent her this book. And more importantly what is the message behind this unexpected gift.

Such a gorgeously told story filled with grief, hope, resilience, and love. Amelia was such a wonderful character I was completely captivated by her story. The bookshop that she travels to in Michigan was serious book heaven. I just loved all the vivid descriptions of the shop I felt like I was right there alongside Amelia. The Romance in the Story was so touching it hit me right in the feels. The connection between Amelia and Nolan was emotional and real. I could go on and on but I will spare you all. If you are looking for a stunning story that will make you smile, swoon, sigh and cry, then this is the book for you!

About the Book

Eighteen-year-old Amelia Griffin is obsessed with the famous Orman Chronicles, written by the young and reclusive prodigy N. E. Endsley. They’re the books that brought her and her best friend Jenna together after Amelia’s father left and her family imploded. So when Amelia and Jenna get the opportunity to attend a book festival with Endsley in attendance, Amelia is ecstatic. It’s the perfect way to start off their last summer before college.

In a heartbeat, everything goes horribly wrong. When Jenna gets a chance to meet the author and Amelia doesn’t, the two have a blowout fight like they’ve never experienced. And before Amelia has a chance to mend things, Jenna is killed in a freak car accident. Grief-stricken, and without her best friend to guide her, Amelia questions everything she had planned for the future.

When a mysterious, rare edition of the Orman Chronicles arrives, Amelia is convinced that it somehow came from Jenna. Tracking the book to an obscure but enchanting bookstore in Michigan, Amelia is shocked to find herself face-to-face with the enigmatic and handsome N. E. Endsley himself, the reason for Amelia’s and Jenna’s fight and perhaps the clue to what Jenna wanted to tell her all along.

Ashley Schumacher’s devastating and beautiful debut, Amelia Unabridged, is about finding hope and strength within yourself, and maybe, just maybe, falling in love while you do it.

Mr. Right Across the Street by Kathryn Freeman **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy March all!

Where did February go? This was such a sweet story that put a BIG smile on my face!

Mr Right Across The Street

Mia Abbott’s move to Manchester was supposed to give her time and space from all the disastrous romantic choices she’s made in her past. But then the hot guy who lives opposite – the one who works out every day at exactly 10 a.m., not that Mia has noticed thank-you-very-much – starts leaving notes in his window…for her.

Bar owner Luke Doyle has his own issues to deal with but as he shows Mia the sites of her new city he also shows her what real romance looks like for the first time. And when he cooks up a signature cocktail in her honour, she realises that the man behind the bar is even more enticing than any of his creations. And once she’s had a taste she knows it will never be enough!

My Thoughts

A delightfully sweet story. Kathryn Freeman never fails to put a smile on my face. I had a lot of fun reading this book some parts were a little cheesy, a little cliché, but I was all in. Mia moves to Manchester to escape a stalker ex and prove to her family that she can make it on her own. When Mia meets Luke she is convinced that he would never like a “girl like her“. Unwilling to give out her phone number, when Luke realizes Mia lives right across from him he starts posting messages in the window. What follows is a very cute, will they, won’t they.

I really liked Mia and Luke and I thought they were perfect together. Mia did however frustrate me throughout a lot of this book. Poor Luke kept trying over and over and over again to prove how much he liked her and she was not convinced. Now this could be because Luke was this gorgeous perfect sweet guy that every girl was throwing themselves at (that part was a bit OTT). Despite an occasional eye roll over Lukes‘s hotness and my desire to shake Mia I really really liked this book. And that ending was so ooey gooey good!

Opposites Attract by Camilla Isley **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Sunday all!

Super excited to share with you today my thoughts on this fantastically fun feel good romcom!

Opposites Attract

First law of magnetism: opposite poles attract.

Single mom Vivian has been burned by love once before, and her job as a divorce lawyer has presented enough evidence to convince her there are no good men left in New York City.

The worst offender is her new neighbor: Dr. Lucas Keller, a couple’s therapist whose piercing blue eyes and flawless dark hair are just as annoying as his bad temper.

But when Luke starts poaching Vivian’s clients by saving their marriages, she makes it her mission to force him out of the building to save her practice. But it’s Luke who gives her the perfect opportunity when he proposes an unexpected bet.

With their offices at stake, Vivian and Luke play the field of love in a fierce battle of wits that quickly turns hot and personal, especially when Vivian’s daughter gets involved. Now, taking down Luke has become more than business for Vivian. It’s become a pleasure—and soon, Vivian and Luke will realize how pointless it is to fight the laws of attraction.

My Thoughts

A divorce lawyer and a marriage therapist walk into an elevator… Camilla Isley once again completely delighted me with this charming romcom. Divorce attorney Vivian and marriage therapist Lucas haves first cross when they are vying for the same office. It is dislike at first sight. Vivian is put off by Lucas‘s temper and Lucas is put off by Vivian‘s pushiness. But as we all know first impressions aren’t always right. The two of them soon find that they cannot get the other out of their minds and are doing everything possible to fight it. When they are both pier pressured into going to a matchmaker agency they decide to wager the coveted office. The bet… who will find love first?

This was just such a fun feel good uplifting story. Loved both Vivian and Lucas and I was just waiting for them to realize that they belong together. The story is told from both characters perspectives and I thought that made it even more entertaining. The dates that this matchmaker agency sent them on were quite humorous. I also really liked Vivian‘s daughter Teagan and the part she played in the story. And of course I cannot forget the cat and the dog! A lovely laugh out loud romcom!

The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Meisner **Book Review** @berkleypub

Happy happy Sunday!

Excited to share with you today my review for what might be my favorite book so far in 2021! And it’s historical fiction, who am I?💐

My Thoughts

ALL. THE. STARS. Susan Meissner completely swept me up with her exceptional storytelling, transporting me to San Francisco 1906 and into the lives of these characters. Sophie is an Irish immigrant who travels to San Francisco as a mail order bride. When Sophie meets Martin she is attracted to his luxe but not certain about his personality. His daughter Cat however completely captures Sophie‘s heart. As the bond between Sophie and Cat grows martin becomes more and more shady. Then one night a young pregnant woman shows up at Sophie‘s door and confirms Sophie‘s suspicions that she doesn’t know the man she married at all. The next day the earthquake strikes and the women find their lives even more deeply intwined. What follows is such a captivating tale of survival, family, Secrets, and love.

This is a historical fiction book that will appeal to absolutely everyone. It was the perfect blend of historical fiction, mystery, and family drama. I absolutely fell in love with all these characters and was sad to say goodbye to them at the end of the story. The earthquake was so vividly described I almost thought I felt the earth shake. As a Californian I was surprised at how little I really knew about this historical Quake. It also made me realize how much better our infrastructure is now than it was then. I truly cannot say enough good things about this book! I strongly encourage everyone to read it!

About the Book

April 18, 1906: A massive earthquake rocks San Francisco just before daybreak, igniting a devouring inferno. Lives are lost, lives are shattered, but some rise from the ashes forever changed. Sophie Whalen is a young Irish immigrant so desperate to get out of a New York tenement that she answers a mail-order bride ad and agrees to marry a man she knows nothing about. San Francisco widower Martin Hocking proves to be as aloof as he is mesmerizingly handsome. Sophie quickly develops deep affection for Kat, Martin’s silent five-year-old daughter, but Martin’s odd behavior leaves her with the uneasy feeling that something about her newfound situation isn’t right. Then one early-spring evening, a stranger at the door sets in motion a transforming chain of events. Sophie discovers hidden ties to two other women. The first, pretty and pregnant, is standing on her doorstep. The second is hundreds of miles away in the American Southwest, grieving the loss of everything she once loved. The fates of these three women intertwine on the eve of the devastating earthquake, thrusting them onto a perilous journey that will test their resiliency and resolve and, ultimately, their belief that love can overcome fear. From the acclaimed author of The Last Year of the War and As Bright as Heaven comes a gripping novel about the bonds of friendship and mother love, and the power of female solidarity.

Have a gorgeous day! XOXO Berit 💕
