Life’s A Beach by Portia MacIntosh

Hello book friends!

Hope life is treating you well! Portia MacIntosh is a definite auto read author for me! I love her stories they’re filled with just so much whimsy, charm, and fabulous characters!🏖

Life’s A Beach

Life’s A Beach

Sun, sea and inescapable exes…

Peach is excited to hear that her sister, Di, is getting married. Of course, she would have preferred her little sister to be engaged to someone she’s known longer than a week – and the fact that his name is Charles doesn’t bode well – but who is she to judge?! Afterall, her own love life is non-existent, and who doesn’t love a destination wedding…?

Whisked away to the gorgeous Italian coast, Peach assumes her role as chief bridesmaid and, despite her reservations about the groom, she tries to ensure everything goes to plan.

But weddings are never straightforward affairs… throw in some unexpected guests in the form of ex-boyfriends and one night stands, and soon enough there is more drama than a reality tv show.

Can Peach keep the show on the road, or might she end up in a whirlwind romance of her own…?

Escape to the stunning Italian coast with bestseller Portia MacIntosh. Perfect for fans of Sophie Ranald and Mhairi MacFarlane.

My Thoughts

Romcom perfection! That’s it, that’s the review!

I’m kidding, but seriously that’s all you really need to know. Portia MacIntosh writes such whimsical stories filled with such fabulous characters and this might be her best yet! Peach is heading to her baby sister‘s destination wedding when she learns that the best man is someone she knows intimately. Not only that it appears as though she has accidentally invited her sister’s ex-boyfriend to the wedding. And that’s just the Half of it. Additionally little sister Di is marrying a man she’s only known for a week named Charles, nonetheless. At least the wedding is taking place in Italy at a gorgeous villa. But as the guests start arriving the entanglements get Wilder. This was just SO much fun! Peach was such a great character I adored her and I loved her job. Seriously the girl was a secret shopper and got to go visit fancy hotels and eat at five star restaurants for work. The setting of the story was Beautiful! All the characters were so dynamic and well-developed, I’d love to get to know most of them. The story had so many laugh out loud moments, i’m still laughing thinking about it. A perfect beach read that I cannot recommend highly enough!

Mr. Right Across the Street by Kathryn Freeman **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy March all!

Where did February go? This was such a sweet story that put a BIG smile on my face!

Mr Right Across The Street

Mia Abbott’s move to Manchester was supposed to give her time and space from all the disastrous romantic choices she’s made in her past. But then the hot guy who lives opposite – the one who works out every day at exactly 10 a.m., not that Mia has noticed thank-you-very-much – starts leaving notes in his window…for her.

Bar owner Luke Doyle has his own issues to deal with but as he shows Mia the sites of her new city he also shows her what real romance looks like for the first time. And when he cooks up a signature cocktail in her honour, she realises that the man behind the bar is even more enticing than any of his creations. And once she’s had a taste she knows it will never be enough!

My Thoughts

A delightfully sweet story. Kathryn Freeman never fails to put a smile on my face. I had a lot of fun reading this book some parts were a little cheesy, a little cliché, but I was all in. Mia moves to Manchester to escape a stalker ex and prove to her family that she can make it on her own. When Mia meets Luke she is convinced that he would never like a “girl like her“. Unwilling to give out her phone number, when Luke realizes Mia lives right across from him he starts posting messages in the window. What follows is a very cute, will they, won’t they.

I really liked Mia and Luke and I thought they were perfect together. Mia did however frustrate me throughout a lot of this book. Poor Luke kept trying over and over and over again to prove how much he liked her and she was not convinced. Now this could be because Luke was this gorgeous perfect sweet guy that every girl was throwing themselves at (that part was a bit OTT). Despite an occasional eye roll over Lukes‘s hotness and my desire to shake Mia I really really liked this book. And that ending was so ooey gooey good!

Opposites Attract by Camilla Isley **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Sunday all!

Super excited to share with you today my thoughts on this fantastically fun feel good romcom!

Opposites Attract

First law of magnetism: opposite poles attract.

Single mom Vivian has been burned by love once before, and her job as a divorce lawyer has presented enough evidence to convince her there are no good men left in New York City.

The worst offender is her new neighbor: Dr. Lucas Keller, a couple’s therapist whose piercing blue eyes and flawless dark hair are just as annoying as his bad temper.

But when Luke starts poaching Vivian’s clients by saving their marriages, she makes it her mission to force him out of the building to save her practice. But it’s Luke who gives her the perfect opportunity when he proposes an unexpected bet.

With their offices at stake, Vivian and Luke play the field of love in a fierce battle of wits that quickly turns hot and personal, especially when Vivian’s daughter gets involved. Now, taking down Luke has become more than business for Vivian. It’s become a pleasure—and soon, Vivian and Luke will realize how pointless it is to fight the laws of attraction.

My Thoughts

A divorce lawyer and a marriage therapist walk into an elevator… Camilla Isley once again completely delighted me with this charming romcom. Divorce attorney Vivian and marriage therapist Lucas haves first cross when they are vying for the same office. It is dislike at first sight. Vivian is put off by Lucas‘s temper and Lucas is put off by Vivian‘s pushiness. But as we all know first impressions aren’t always right. The two of them soon find that they cannot get the other out of their minds and are doing everything possible to fight it. When they are both pier pressured into going to a matchmaker agency they decide to wager the coveted office. The bet… who will find love first?

This was just such a fun feel good uplifting story. Loved both Vivian and Lucas and I was just waiting for them to realize that they belong together. The story is told from both characters perspectives and I thought that made it even more entertaining. The dates that this matchmaker agency sent them on were quite humorous. I also really liked Vivian‘s daughter Teagan and the part she played in the story. And of course I cannot forget the cat and the dog! A lovely laugh out loud romcom!

Second Chances in Chianti by T. A. Williams **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Monday book friends!

Looking for a book to escape into? Then look no further!

Second Chances in Chianti

Alice thought her future was set in stone, until her past came knocking…

Alice Butler starred in a successful US sitcom until tensions in the cast and crew caused the show to be cancelled. Now, five years later and working towards her dream job in art history, she’s called back for a revival of the show. It can only end in disaster, surely?

Flown to a villa in Chianti to meet with the rest of the cast, Alice must decide where her future lies – with her boyfriend, David, who laps up the Hollywood company, or with the mysterious Matt, who shies away from public attention?

My Thoughts

The perfect escape! This book was the perfect example of how we can travel through the pages of our books even during covid times. The Italian setting and the story dripped from the pages. The sights, the sounds, the smells, the food, The sun. The authors passion and knowledge of this part of Italy really shown through. Once upon a time Alice was a sitcom star. But after the popular sitcom self-destructed Alice returns home to finish her studies in art history. It is now years later Alice has just received her PhD and there appears to be a potential revival of the sitcom. In order to discuss and persuade the cast members gather at the producers villa in Tuscany. Alice’s life is at a true crossroads both professionally and romantically. What will Alice do? How can she follow her heart when her heart is pulling her in so many directions?

What a treat! So many wonderful characters and such a warm feeling to the story. Alice sure had a lot to contemplate. Should she stay with a boyfriend? Rekindle with her old flame? Or stay in Italy for the mysterious mat? The sitcom’s cast of characters was terrific so vividly drawn. But the true star of the show was Guinness Matt’s black lab. A sensational story that made me want to pack my bags and head to Italy.

Author Bio – I’m a man. And a pretty old man as well. I did languages at university a long time ago and then lived and worked in France and Switzerland before going to Italy for seven years as a teacher of English. My Italian wife and I then came back to the UK with our little daughter (now long-since grown up) where I ran a big English language school for many years. We now live in a sleepy little village in Devonshire. I’ve been writing almost all my life but it was only seven years ago that I finally managed to find a publisher who liked my work enough to offer me my first contract.

The fact that I am now writing romantic comedy is something I still find hard to explain. My early books were thrillers and historical novels. Maybe it’s because there are so many horrible things happening in the world today that I feel I need to do my best to provide something to cheer my readers up. My books provide escapism to some gorgeous locations, even if travel to them is currently difficult.

The Dog Sitter by Zara Stoneley **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Thursday y’all!

This was such a fun feel good romcom that gave me the warm fuzzies. A likable heroine, a gorgeous setting, an adorable puppy, and a gorgeous man.🐶

The Dog Sitter

One dog. Two strangers. An unfurgettable romance.

Wanted: someone nice, normal and trustworthy to housesit a beautiful cottage in the Lake District while the owner is away on a business trip. Must like dogs.

Wanting to escape from crap bosses and useless boyfriends, Becky jumps at the chance of being a dog sitter and the perfect escape – rest, relaxation and a very cute pooch called Bella.

But looking after Bella comes with a catch, namely gorgeous, brooding, Chris Hemsworth-worthy Ash James, who claims Bella is his dog and will stop at nothing to get her back!

Becky’s not about to hand over lovely Bella to any Tom, Dick or Ash.  She’s determined to watch every move Ash James makes…even if it gets her very hot under the collar.

My Thoughts

Four paws up for this totally adorable romcom. A relatable heroin, a stunning setting, a lovable puppy, sizzling chemistry and a gorgeous man. What more can you want from your romcom? Becky needs a little break from her life so she applies to housesit a cottage in the Lake District, and bonus the cottage comes with a dog. The only thing the homeowner asks is that becky does not let anyone under any circumstances touch Bella, the dog. Simple enough, right? Well it is for about 15 minutes until Ash shows up with his piercing blue eyes, delicious smile, and an obvious connection to Bella. I am certain you know where this is going, and yes it is somewhat predictable. However there is so much whimsy and charm in this delightfull tail wagging tale.

I really liked both Becky and Ash and could not figure out how they could have possibly been with their previous significant others. The setting sounded absolutely divine and I think it was featured perfectly in the story. But the true star of the show of course was Bella. She was so precious and so funny. If I didn’t already have two dogs I’d probably think I needed one. Another fun feel good story from this wonderful author.

Faking It by Portia MacIntosh **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy first day of February!

Well January sure went quick! Excited to share with you today my review for this fantastic romcom guaranteed to make you smile!🐰🐰

Faking It

The perfect house, the perfect husband and the perfect life… or is she just faking it?

Life has been a bit of a rollercoaster for Ella. Growing up as the ‘less successful’ identical twin to her ‘perfectly successful’ sister, Emma, has left her feeling isolated, inadequate and let’s face it.. a little bitter.

When Emma unexpectedly reaches out to Ella in a time of need, Ella suddenly finds herself with the opportunity to fill in for her sister and experience how the other half live.

But as Ella navigates the world of gossiping mothers, rebellious teens and trying to play the model housewife (not to mention avoiding the temptation of attractive men at the school gates…) will she discover that all is not always as it seems on the other side?

Discover the brilliantly funny new romantic comedy from top 10 bestseller Portia MacIntosh. Perfect for fans of Mhairi McFarlane, Sophie Ranald and Lindsey Kelk

Romcom perfection with a Freaky Friday vibe. Portia MacIntosh once again completely charmed me with this story packed with delightful characters and whimsical antics. Ella is in a bit of a rut. She lost her job, destroyed her pride, and burned her apartment down all on the same day. So when her twin sister Emma reaches out asking her to “take her place“ for six weeks Ella jumps at the chance. How hard can it be? They are identical after all. Even though Ella has not seen her niece and nephew in over a decade and has no experience at motherhood, she is certain this will go well. That is Until Ella ends up pulling in the wrong carpool drop off line, has no idea how to operate the coffee machine, and thought chicken nuggets was a good dinner choice. OK perhaps this is harder than Ella thought, but she can do this.

So much laugh out loud fun! Ella was great! Even though she got herself into some trouble she always seem to get out of it in her own way. Her relationships with the kids was great. I liked her different perspective, I think sometimes as moms we get fixated on the wrong things and this was kind of like a fresh reset. There is also a delightful love interest in the Story, Marco. We would all be lucky to find a Marco, he was so supportive, understanding, and oh yeah hot. Another stellar book from this fabulous author!

Love and Ohana Drama by Melissa Baldwin **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Friday!

It’s been a cold rainy week here in Southern California. Made this fun romcom set in Hawaii all the sweeter.🌴

Love and Ohana Drama

Love and Ohana Drama is a romantic comedy that explores the challenges of family dynamics and reminds readers that there is always hope for a second chance. Sometimes the most challenging situations bring the most happiness . . .

Twenty-something Cora Fletcher is a book-loving public relations executive who lives with her overly Zen best friend and attention-loving cat. Newly single and focusing on her exciting career, she feels like she’s in a good place. She’s even been invited on an all-expenses-paid Hawaiian vacation! The only catch—it’s a family reunion . . . and her family can be a lot to handle.

Cora vows to not let that get in the way, but even before the family has boarded the plane, the ohana drama begins. As usual, there’s the sister-in-law who is bent on causing friction, the self-centered cousins, and the aunt who loves to party a bit too much. Her mother has filled the itinerary with endless activities, and she’s even invited Cora’s ex-boyfriend in an attempt to get them back together.

Although she feels overwhelmed, Cora gets a blast from her past that could impact her life forever. This is one welcome reunion she did not expect . . .

Will Cora make it through a week of family togetherness? And will she be able to say aloha to someone she thought was out of her life forever?

My Thoughts

So much fun! Cora is not looking forward to spending a week with her family, even if it is in Hawaii. She has nothing in common with her mom and sister, her brother is married to her worst enemy, and her cousins make her want to pull her hair out. But it is her parents 40th anniversary and it’s paradise, how bad can it be? When her dad starts leading a calisthenics class in the airport and her ex boyfriend shows up to join the family vacay, Cora is now convinced her first instinct to skip the trip was correct. But when Cora gets to the islands she finds out that her childhood crush will also be joining the Festivities, maybe paradise will be just that. Ohana drama, fruity drinks, waterfalls, coconut bras, hula lessons, roasted pig, helicopter trips, family pictures, sunrise yoga, sunset vows.

Loved taking a trip to Hawaii with this crazy family. There were so many laugh out loud and heartwarming moments in this book. Cora was a great character and I loved watching her get her HEA. Also loved how this family grew closer throughout the course of their vacation. Warm sunshine, tropical breezes, ocean spray, family drama, and romance.

Stuck On You by Portia MacIntosh **Book Review** @rararesources @boldwoodbooks

Happy Monday all!

This book was so so good! I just adored every minute I spend with these characters!🧝🏼

Stuck On You

Could a post-it note really lead to love…?

Sadie doesn’t have time for finding love. She’s too busy as PA for famous artist Damian Banks. When she’s not arranging exhibitions, she’s organising his dry cleaning or dumping his never ending stream of girlfriends.

But when she strikes up an unusual friendship with her desk share buddy, she finds a confidante and a new potential love interest. Problem is, they’ve never actually met…

With Christmas just around the corner, can Sadie put herself first for a change and find what she’s been looking for all along?

The brand new romantic comedy from top 10 bestseller Portia MacIntosh. Perfect for fans of Sophie Ranald, Mhairi McFarlane and Zara Stoneley.

My Thoughts

Fun, feel good, and festive. Portia MacIntosh has fast become an auto read Author for me. She writes charming romcoms filled with colorful characters, witty banter, and sweet moments. Sadie works for famous photographer Damien Banks as his assistant. Her job requires her to purchase Christmas presents, break up with girlfriends, fetch coffee, and various other menial tasks. And I can’t forget spending a weekend with a wife killer. The only good part of her job is her post it note relationship with a coworker who shares her desk on the days she’s not there. SO how is it that after Sadie gets her new dream job she ends up bringing boss Damian home for Christmas?

So much fun! Sadie and Damien work wonderful characters who I absolutely adored. OK well truth be told I didn’t love Damien from the beginning but I thought that was part of the charm of the story. Just like he did Sadie, Damien grew on me throughout the book. Love spending time with Damian, Sadie, her family, and their five days of Christmas. Seriously how can you not fall in love with a guy who will wear elf ears for your family, race around delivering Christmas cards with you, wear his pajamas to the movies, and remember your favorite childhood game. I just loved absolutely everything about this book!
