The Best Boomerville Hotel by Caroline James @CarolineJames12 @rararesources @RubyFiction #bookreview #giveaway

Happy Monday bibliophiles!

Thrilled to share with you today my review for this uplifting story about “people of a certain age.”Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation to the blog tour and to Caroline James for her delightful words💕

The Best Boomerville Hotel

TBBH high res coverLet the shenanigans begin at the Best Boomerville Hotel …
Jo Docherty and Hattie Contaldo have a vision – a holiday retreat in the heart of the Lake District exclusively for guests of ‘a certain age’ wishing to stimulate both mind and body with new creative experiences. One hotel refurbishment later and the Best Boomerville Hotel is open for business!

Perhaps not surprisingly Boomerville attracts more than its fair share of eccentric clientele: there’s fun-loving Sir Henry Mulberry and his brother Hugo; Lucinda Brown, an impoverished artist with more ego than talent; Andy Mack, a charming Porsche-driving James Bond lookalike, as well as Kate Simmons, a woman who made her fortune from an internet dating agency but still hasn’t found ‘the One’ herself.

With such an array of colourful individuals there’s bound to be laughs aplenty, but could there be tears and heartbreak too and will the residents get more than they bargained for at Boomerville?

My Thoughts

A heartwarming story filled with laughter and hope…

Good friends Jo and Hattie decided to open up a retreat for “people of a certain age.“ The purpose of the retreat is too offer classes to expand both the mind and the body of the boomers… I thought this was a fun refreshing book focusing on people over 50… a Book all about embracing every day no matter what your age….

This book had a cast of extremely engaging, eccentric and quirky, characters…. Kate a successful Business owner of a online dating service who has never found love herself… Andy a handsome James bond look alike with a hidden agenda… lucinda a washed up artist with a dirty side…. and last but not least eccentric yet lovable brothers Harry and Hugo… each character brought a little something different to the table and added some charm and wit to the story….

It is always nice to read a delightful uplifting story that will make you smile and giggle… a book that reinforces the fact that it is never too late for second chances, new beginnings, and true love….

Absolutely recommend when you are in the mood for a lovely story a bit of a pick me up…

*** many thanks to Ruby Fiction for my copy of this book ***

Fishing for Maui by Isa Pearl Ritchie @IsaPearlRitchie @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Wednesday everybody!

Excited to share with you today my review for this beautifully told story about family, food, and culture! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and two Isa Pearl Ritchie for her lovely words!💛

Fishing for Maui

Fishing for Maui - Front - (RGB)A novel about food, whānau, and mental illness.

Valerie reads George Eliot to get to sleep – just to take her mind off worries over her patients, her children, their father and the next family dinner. Elena is so obsessed with health, traditional food, her pregnancy and her blog she doesn’t notice that her partner, Malcolm the ethicist, is getting himself into a moral dilemma of his own making. Evie wants to save the world one chicken at a time. Meanwhile her boyfriend, Michael is on a quest to reconnect with his Māori heritage and discover his own identity. Rosa is eight years old and lost in her own fantasy world, but she’s the only one who can tell something’s not right. Crisis has the power to bring this family together, but will it be too late?

“An accomplished story of a family in crisis

– Ritchie’s great skill is her ability to conjure the inner lives if her characters. Fishing For Maui is a compassionate meditation on what it means to be well”. – Sarah Jane Barnett

My Thoughts

A beautifully told story about family, food, and culture; set against the beautiful backdrop of New Zealand….

Told from multiple points of view, spanning three generations, this book really gives you a honest glimpse into the lives of this family… The family members all have strong and differing opinions on things such as food, culture, and tradition… everyone’s story was told so exquisitely with such elegance at times I felt as though I was reading poetry…

This book just touched on so many different subjects from food to blogging to surfing to medical practices to mental illness to tradition etc. I found I could relate with almost all of the characters, in one way or another, some more than others…. The book captivated my interest throughout and was extremely thought-provoking…. The setting of New Zealand definitely added something to the story for me I learned about a culture I had no previous knowledge of…

A quiet story that’s true beauty is in its words and its characters, recommended to anyone who is looking for a gentle thought-provoking story….

Christmas Spirit by Nicola May @nicolamay1 @rararesources #bookreview #giveaway

Happy hump day!

Delighted to share with you today my review for this festive short story! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and two Nicola May for her wonderful words!🎁

Christmas Spirit

coverIt’s two days before Christmas – and Evie Harris finds herself both manless and jobless. After a chance encounter with handsome Greg (and egged on by her toy-boy-eating friend, Bea) she agrees to work at a homeless shelter on Christmas Day.
Striking up an unlikely friendship with homeless Yves, Evie begins an unwitting journey of spiritual awakening, all set against the sparkling winter backdrop of London landmarks.

A New Year’s Eve revelation is on its way . . . but will it leave Evie with a happy heart, or will she allow the pre-Christmas past to dictate her future?

My Thoughts

A charming and festive Reid, a powerful story in a little package! 🎁

This was a suite short story all about the magic of Christmas… a story filled with peace, hope, and strength… a lovely story about finding wisdom and tranquility where you least expect it…

Evie goes out with her BFF Bea, for a night of drinking and forgetting… forgetting that she just broke up with her boyfriend a few days before Christmas… while out she meets the handsome Gary with a heart shaped birthmark…. with some arm twisting from Gary and Bea, Evie is convinced to volunteer at a soup kitchen on Christmas Day… while at the soup kitchen she meets Yve and that’s when all the magic begins…. there is something very special about Yve, is he Evie’s very own guardian angel?

Such a beautiful story sprinkled with so much magic and love! I absolutely loved the message of this book… and yes the romance moves quickly, but it had two they’re only 58 pages… I have to say there’s quite a bit packed into this short book… I love the message, I love the lessons, I loved the watercolors, I love the poetry, I love the characters, I love the setting…. my favorite part though was the magical twist at the very end!

A holly Jolly story that will put you in the holiday mood and fill your heart with hope❤️💚❤️

Fierce Grace by Jess B. Moore @authorjessb @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Tuesday and election day in the US!

Excited to share with you today my review for this beautiful romance! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation and two Jess B. Moore for her exquisite story!

Fierce Grace

Fierce Grace CoverAnnabelle Dare is in a good place. She landed a sweet job, teaching at the quaint Fox River Elementary School. She has everything she needs: teaching music and sharing an apartment with her best friend. A simple life, she’s convinced, is all she needs.

Asher Grace knows who he is and what he has to offer. Nothing. A poor boy from the wrong side of town, steel worker, with too much weight on his shoulders as he is trying to hold his family together. Best choice is avoiding too-sweet-for-her-own-good Annabelle at all costs.

Annabelle falls in love with the way she comes to life with Asher. He awakens a hunger for life and love in her that she didn’t know she possessed.

Asher must learn his worth beyond his upbringing and his past. Annabelle must learn to stoke the fire of life as it burns within her and learn how close she can get before the flames lick her.

A beautifully told intimate story about love….

This is the type of story you don’t just read you live! You take every breath and feel every emotion with these characters…. A definite character driven story that will worm its way into your heart…

This is a quiet story about Annabel and Asher… two lost souls trying to find their way, but should it be together or apart? Told completely from Annabelle‘s perspective we really saw her emotional struggles through this relationship… her Hope, her insecurities, and her love… because we didn’t get Asher’s perspective he was a bit of a mystery…. I was never quite sure where he was coming from? I really wanted things to work out for Annabelle, but I wasn’t always convince her best choice was Asher….

This is an exquisitely told romance with some swoon and some sizzle… A bit of a character study… if you’re like me and like to get under the skin and into the mind of your characters you will absolutely love this book!

Recommend to Fans of Romances that take place in charming settings that are filled with wonderful well develops characters💕

The Stepsister by Jenny O’Brien @ScribblerJB @rararesources #bookreview #giveaway

Happy Sunday!

Excited to share with you today my review for this page turning thriller! A huge thank you to Rachel for the invitation and to Jenny O’Brien for her wonderful story!🖤

The Stepsister

The stepsister coverWhen a stranger leaves step-sisters, Victoria and Ness, a half-share in a house in Holland, they think it must be a mistake.

But there’s no mistake when Ness goes missing.

Desperate for the truth, Victoria heads to Holland to find out what happened to her. Has she, as her texts show, embarked on a whirlwind romance? Has someone abducted her or even worse?

But there’s someone watching, and that person wants her dead.

Can Victoria find out the truth before it’s too late?

My Thoughts

I died yesterday, or so I’ve been told.

With an opening line like that I was quickly captivated by this book… a thriller with a bit of everything including a splash of romance… A twisted family drama with a bit of a somber tone…

Victoria and her stepsister Ness are surprised when they inherit a house from a complete stranger… now has this ever turned out well in a book? Seriously if I Ever inherit anything from a complete stranger I’m turning it down! Well unless it’s cash😉 being the more adventurous of the two Ness heads to Holland, to check out the house… leaving Victoria with her poodle Nigel… can I just say that Nigel was one fantastic dog! Soon after this Victoria receive a message from Ness letting her know that she is getting married and is heading off on a romantic Trip… after some time passes without any contact Victoria become concerned and heads to Holland with, Nigel in toe… then The thrills begin!

This was a dark story with plenty of twists… The kind of story that keeps you up way past your bedtime frantically turning the pages…. there are a few moments of confusion and a bit of impossibility, but it’s all tied up nicely in the end!

Recommend to those of you who enjoy a well written thriller with some family drama and a darker side…

And No Birds Shall Sing by E.A. Clark @rararesources @EAClarkAuthor #bookreview

Happy almost Halloween everybody!

Thrilled and chilled to share with you today my review for this creepy perfect for this time of year story! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation to the tour!🎃🎃🎃

And No Birds Shall Sing

Final cover ANBSSNot all spirits rest in peace…

Following a personal tragedy, a recovering Grace Clements relocates with her husband and daughter to an old cottage in idyllic rural Oxfordshire. As the family integrate into the seemingly benign local community, they learn unsettling facts about the cottage’s dark past. Grace quickly becomes uncomfortably aware of a menacing presence within their new home.

Stumbling upon a neglected cemetery, Grace and her daughter discover the graves of the house’s previous inhabitants, including those of nine babies. Dismayed to find herself pregnant, Grace suspects she has awoken something truly evil in her new residence. She develops a creeping sense of unease as she unravels the disturbing truth about the history of the cottage and the fate of its occupants.

Who is the sinister boy watching Grace and her family? Are there malevolent forces at work? Or is the mentally fragile Grace heading for another breakdown?

A spellbinding paranormal thriller from the best-selling author of Lay Me To Rest. You may want to keep the lights on…

My Thoughts

This is a dark and creepy story perfect for Halloween!

This is the kind of book that makes you question every noise you hear in the middle of the night… A cursed cottage with a malicious spirit, that will make your skin prick… seriously there were a couple times during this book I had to turn around because I was certain someone was behind me…. the kind of book that will make you a believer of the things that go bump in the night…

I haven’t read mini paranormal books this year, but I’m glad I picked this one up… sometimes you just need the bajesus scared out of you, and this book definitely did the trick! Not going to touch on the plot because this is a book best gone into without any prior knowledge…. just imagine a creepy cottage, in a creepy forest, where literally no bird sing!

Recommended when you’re in the mood for a spooky creepy Reid, that will make you sleep with the lights on!

Crooked Cat PhotoAuthor Bio –

Elizabeth Clark was born and raised in the Midlands, where she continues to live with her husband and son, plus an assortment of pets. Much of her formative existence was spent with her head in a book, and from an early age, she grew to relish the sheer escapism afforded by both reading and writing fiction. Putting things on hold for a time to raise her three children, she has resumed her fervent scribbling.

She has a love of antiquity and a penchant for visiting old graveyards, often speculating on the demise of those entombed beneath. Whilst she has written short stories and poetry for many years, a lifelong fascination with all things paranormal culminated in her first novel for adults, ‘Lay Me to Rest’, published in September 2017 by HQ Digital.

‘And No Birds Shall Sing’, to be published by Crooked Cat in October 2018, is her second foray into the realms of the supernatural.

A Christmas Date by Camilla Isley @camillaisley @rararesources #bookreview #holidayread

Happy weekend book friends!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend! Delighted to share with you today my review for this wonderful holiday story filled with amazing characters! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and to Camila Isley for her engaging story!🎄☃️

A Christmas Date

No one wants to be single at the holidays.

Even Little Miss Grinch, Nikki, a successful and independent woman, must face her bachelorette status at the most horrible time of the year.

December is her personal version of holly-jolly hell: a merry torture made of couples kissing at every corner, forced vacation days, and an inescapable family reunion.

And when her baby sister announces she’s engaged—to Paul, the man Nikki is secretly in love with—and that he’s spending the holidays with them, Christmas starts looking bluer than ever.

Nikki can’t possibly survive an entire week trapped home as the family’s spinster. But she has no time to meet men or to try the newest dating app, she’s too busy working as a video producer for an advertising agency.

So what’s a girl to do?

Nikki has the perfect solution: to hire a fake boyfriend.

Luckily, her job gives her access to an endless catalog of gorgeous actors to choose from.

But Nikki will soon discover that keeping business and pleasure from mixing isn’t so easy, and that she might not be immune to a little mistletoe magic. Especially not when she picked out the perfect man as her Christmas date…

A fun, festive romantic comedy with lots of bad behavior and Christmas spirit. Like a creamy hot chocolate with marshmallows, you won’t want to put this deliciously hilarious novel down. Perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Sally Thorne, and Jo Watson.

First Comes Love is a series of interconnected romantic novels. However, each book in the series can be read as a standalone.

My Thoughts

I absolutely adored and loved every single word in this book!

If you could see me you would see that I have a BIG smile on my face, I have found me another wonderful author! I love a book that completely engages you and captures your heart! The storyline in this book was not original, in fact it has been done many times before and the author even mentions that in the book… but these characters were so electric, they completely drew me in!

Nikki is not in the holiday mood, in fact she wouldn’t mind skipping the entire month of December… when she finds out her sister is bringing her new fiancé to Christmas she goes into full Scrooge mode… The worst part her sister’s fiancé Paul, a man she’s had a crush on since college…. determined not to go home for Christmas single and with no time to find a date Nikki decides to hire a date…. as I said this is a popular trope that has been done before, but I have to admit it is one of my favorites!

Nikki is a fantastic character I loved her, I mean what’s not to love the girl is a cat lover! She is also smart and sassy…. I adored her relationship with her BFF Blair… but most of all I loved the banter and chemistry between Nicky and hired date Diego…. Diego was such a good guy, down-to-earth and genuine, the kind of guy you would want to take home to your parents… not to mention he was tall, dark, and handsome… The perfect go to parade in front of your sister, I make her a little bit jealous…. add in some family drama, Christmas festivities, gluten-free food, adorable animals, and you have got yourself one wonderful story!

Absolutely recommend, this is one of the best Christmas romances I have Red this season!

Reprobation by Catherine Fearns @metalmamawrites @rararesources #bookreview #giveaway

Are you ready for the weekend booklovers??? I sure am!

Thrilled to share with you my review for this dark thriller with a bit of a unique angle! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and two Catherine Fearns for her intriguing story!🖤

Reprobation

Reprobation Cover

Are you one of the elect?

Dr. Helen Hope is a lecturer in eschatology – the study of death, judgement, and the destiny of humankind. She is also a Calvinist nun, her life devoted to atoning for a secret crime.

When a body is found crucified on a Liverpool beach, she forms an unlikely alliance with suspect Mikko Kristensen, lead guitarist in death metal band Total Depravity. Together, they go on the trail of a rogue geneticist who they believe holds the key – not just to the murder, but to something much darker.

Also on the trail is cynical Scouse detective Darren Swift. In his first murder case, he must confront his own lack of faith as a series of horrific crimes drag the city of two cathedrals to the gates of hell.

Science meets religious belief in this gripping murder mystery.

My Thoughts

This was a dark and gritty thriller with a bit of a different cast of characters…

A nun and a lead guitarist in a Death Metal band walk into a…. not a bad joke, they are two characters in this thriller…. when a body is discovered on the beach crucified and with a Bible quote? The authorities call on Sister Helen… sister Helen is convinced the guilty party is not Mikko lead guitarist in the Death Metal band Total Depravity…

This book was much darker than I was anticipating and very descriptive in places…. it also involves some science and studies that I have never Heard of before… how would you live your life if you knew you were already genetically pre-destined to go to heaven or hell? This is an interesting concept and very thought-provoking, it is also the theory of the rogue geneticist that they are chasing down… an interesting look at the similarities and differences between science and religion…. all leading to murder and “total depravity“… I found these characters very interesting, I thought it was a very unique angle to a thriller…. Music, religion, science, death, judgment, a potpourri of subject matter!

Recommended to those of you who enjoy a darker thriller with some intriguing and unusual characters….
