Opposites Attract by Camilla Isley **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Sunday all!

Super excited to share with you today my thoughts on this fantastically fun feel good romcom!

Opposites Attract

First law of magnetism: opposite poles attract.

Single mom Vivian has been burned by love once before, and her job as a divorce lawyer has presented enough evidence to convince her there are no good men left in New York City.

The worst offender is her new neighbor: Dr. Lucas Keller, a couple’s therapist whose piercing blue eyes and flawless dark hair are just as annoying as his bad temper.

But when Luke starts poaching Vivian’s clients by saving their marriages, she makes it her mission to force him out of the building to save her practice. But it’s Luke who gives her the perfect opportunity when he proposes an unexpected bet.

With their offices at stake, Vivian and Luke play the field of love in a fierce battle of wits that quickly turns hot and personal, especially when Vivian’s daughter gets involved. Now, taking down Luke has become more than business for Vivian. It’s become a pleasure—and soon, Vivian and Luke will realize how pointless it is to fight the laws of attraction.

My Thoughts

A divorce lawyer and a marriage therapist walk into an elevator… Camilla Isley once again completely delighted me with this charming romcom. Divorce attorney Vivian and marriage therapist Lucas haves first cross when they are vying for the same office. It is dislike at first sight. Vivian is put off by Lucas‘s temper and Lucas is put off by Vivian‘s pushiness. But as we all know first impressions aren’t always right. The two of them soon find that they cannot get the other out of their minds and are doing everything possible to fight it. When they are both pier pressured into going to a matchmaker agency they decide to wager the coveted office. The bet… who will find love first?

This was just such a fun feel good uplifting story. Loved both Vivian and Lucas and I was just waiting for them to realize that they belong together. The story is told from both characters perspectives and I thought that made it even more entertaining. The dates that this matchmaker agency sent them on were quite humorous. I also really liked Vivian‘s daughter Teagan and the part she played in the story. And of course I cannot forget the cat and the dog! A lovely laugh out loud romcom!

Did My Love Life Shrink in the Wash? by Kristen Bailey **Book Review** @bookouture

Happy weekend all!

If you are looking for a fun feel good authentic story, then do I have the book for you!💕

My Thoughts

Fun. Genuine. Messy. Kristen Bailey has once again written an authentic, humorous, and heartfelt story. This is the third book in the fab Callaghan Sister series. you can absolutely read this as a standalone, but I guarantee once you meet these sisters you are going to want to go back and read the previous books in the series and then eagerly await the next books. This Beth’s story…Beth and her partner Will were living a bit of a party lifestyle. Raves, concerts, late nights, drinking, clubbing, lazy days spent sleeping, and loads of fun. BUT then after one night of too much fun *oopsie* Beth finds herself pregnant. This is the tale of how this fun loving couple deals with pregnancy, childbirth, and the first year of new baby Joe’s life. The good. The bad. And the ugly of parenthood.

Loved this story! This is a realistic, humorous, emotional, sad an honest look at motherhood/fatherhood. no sugarcoating here, you get all the dirty details. Loved Beth and I loved her love for her little boy Joe. Will on the other hand truly frustrated me and I have to say Beth is a better person than I. Although I guess I do need to give him some grace…. or maybe I don’t. My favorite part of this book once again was the sisters and their amazing relationship and support for one another. this family is just so wonderful flaws and all their love definitely shines through. And dad really stepped up in a big way! I don’t know which sisters story I am more excited for next Lucy or Grace? I think Lucy‘s story is going to be a hoot and Grace’s story is going to be so sweet and emotional, just can’t wait!

About the Book

Sure, my bedroom gets lots of action. It’s called snoring.

Will and I didn’t have a clue what we were signing up for. It turns out that there’s loads we weren’t warned about:

1) You’ll spend more time spooning your child’s cuddly donkey than your own boyfriend.
2) Communication with your other half will be via post-it notes on the fridge, mainly telling him to buy more milk.
3) If you make the mistake of going to a nightclub you’ll nod off, drool, and be woken up by an angry bouncer.
4) In the middle of the night you’ll be begging Siri for advice on getting your baby to sleep. (Whale music doesn’t work.)
5) Sex is something that happened in another dimension.

But even if I feel like I’m waiting for my motherhood powers to come in the post, at least I’ve got Will. Our old life – festivals, sambuca shots, an actual sex life – might be a distant memory, but we can get through anything together, can’t we?

At least that’s what I thought until, one day, Will walked out on us… If I’m on my own (apart from Siri, obviously) can I do this whole parenting thing? Or I am destined to lose my sanity one sleepless night at a time?

A totally hilarious and absolutely relatable tale for anyone who has survived parenthood purely on microwave meals and wished for an IV drip of coffee to get them through! This uplifting page-turner will make your belly ache with laughter. Perfect for fans of Why Mummy Drinks, Sophie Ranald and Sophie Kinsella.

One Family Christmas by Bella Osborne **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy hump day!

If you’re looking for a book that will make you laugh, look no further! This was such a fun and realistic look at family Christmas!🎄

One Family Christmas

A big family. A whole lot of secrets. A Christmas to remember…

This year, Lottie is hosting one last big family Christmas at the home she grew up in – just like her Nana would have wanted.

But when her relatives descend on the old manor house, Lottie gets more than she bargained for. Every family has its secrets, but in this family, everybody has one!

So, between cooking a Christmas dinner, keeping tensions at bay and a stray dog out of mischief, she has plenty on her plate and not just misshapen sausage rolls and a frozen turkey. And then her first love shows up – nine years after he walked out of her life.

Can Lottie make their last family Christmas one to remember… for the right reasons?

My Thoughts

A hilarious ho ho ho holiday read. This was such an entertaining and festive story filled with family, humor, and heart. Lottie is determined to have one last big family Christmas after the sudden death of her beloved Nana. Her somewhat dysfunctional family is less than thrilled about this but they all unenthusiasticly oblige. But even before the first family member arrives things start to go sideways. Lottie’s old flame shows up unexpectedly and she has somehow acquired an extra four-legged houseguest. This book made me laugh, smile, and shed a small tear. This family was so messy it was so authentic and real spending time with them. Made my family look somewhat normal. The bulk of the story is told from the perspective of Lottie who has such a big heart and just wants the family to have a great Christmas. We also get a bit of Emily‘s perspective who is new to the family this is her first Christmas with them, was fun seeing it all from an outsider’s perspective. Most Christmas books are all shiny and bright with that big bow on top this book was more like that gift bag you found crammed in the back of the closet. The gift is just as good it’s just a little more Messi and a little more real. If you’re looking for a Christmas read that Will make you laugh so much your belly will shake like a bowl full of jelly, this is the perfect book!

You Lucky Dog by Julia London **Book Review** @berkleypub

Hello my book friends!

This book was SO adorable! It is the perfect book for anyone who loves romance, humor, and dogs!🐶

My Thoughts

An absolute treat!Heartwarming and hilarious. Fab characters and furry friends. Julia London has written a sweet romcom that will have you giggling, smiling, and wagging your tail. Carly is trying to stay relevant as a publicist burning the candle at both ends, so it is quite disturbing when she returns home and discovers the dog in her house is not hers. Max is a brain scientist, a Professor of neurological science at the University of Texas on the tenure track. He is equally perplexed to find that his lively Hazel has been replaced with a much more solemn dog, we later learned to find out is named Baxter. When Carly shows up at Max’s door with Hazel in tow there is an immediate connection… between Hazel and Baxter that is. OK well there might be a little bit of an attraction between Carly and Max but they are not willing to admit to that yet. On the outside they appear to be quite different Carly is quirky and free spirited while Max is A little more buttoned up and serious. However they cannot deny that Hazel and Baxter love spending time together and this offers them an excuse to also spend time together. What follows is a charming story filled with family, romance, growth, some surprises, and of course dogs.

This story was beyond adorable! I did really like Carly and Max, but Hazel and Baxter stole the show! Carly was a great strong and spunky character who I would love to have as a friend. The things she had to do for her job especially wearing those crazy high fashion outfits created by her fashion designer client had me cracking up. Max was great and I found the research he was doing involving dogs and autism really interesting. Max’s brother was autistic so he had a personal connection to this research, this also led to many heartwarming moments between Max and his brother. Carly’s family on the other hand was quite over the top. The interactions between Carly and her family generally left me chuckling. This is an absolute can’t miss for anyone who loves dogs, romance, and humor.

About the Book

An accidental dog swap unleashes an unexpected love match in this new romantic comedy from New York Times best-selling author Julia London.

Carly Kennedy’s life is in a spiral. She is drowning in work, her divorced parents are going through their midlife crises, and somehow Carly’s sister convinces her to foster Baxter – a basset hound rescue with a bad case of the blues. When Carly comes home late from work one day to discover that the dog walker has accidentally switched out Baxter for another perkier, friendlier basset hound, she has reached the end of her leash.

When Max Sheffington finds a depressed male basset hound in place of his cheerful Hazel, he is bewildered. But when cute, fiery Carly arrives on his doorstep, he is intrigued. He was expecting the dog walker, not a pretty woman with firm ideas about dog discipline. And Carly was not expecting a handsome, bespectacled man to be feeding her dog mac and cheese. Baxter is besotted with Hazel, and Carly realizes she may have found the key to her puppy’s happiness. For his sake, she starts to spend more time with Hazel and Max, until she begins to understand the appeal of falling for your polar opposite.

Cynthia Smarts Midwife Crisis by Liz Davies **Book Review** @rararesurces

Hello my book friends!

This was such a fun book! Made me smile and laugh! The perfect afternoon escape!

Cynthia Smart’s Midwife Crisis

Midlife crisis? What midlife crisis?

At forty-four, Cynthia Smart is exactly where she wants to be. Almost.

In a couple of years, she’ll be the CEO of the company she’s spent her most of her adult life working in. For now, though, she’s still busy shimmying up the greasy pole of corporate business. She’s single, carefree, and independent, and nothing can stop her getting what she wants and deserves.

Until she discovers she’s pregnant.

Determined to have her cake and eat it, she’s convinced that having a baby will make little difference to her life, and that she will be one of those women who can hold down an incredibly demanding job and also be a perfect mother.

But as her pregnancy progresses and her life slowly falls apart, she has the sneaking suspicion that Max Oakland, the new guy on the block, is out to steal her dream job. That she’s terribly attracted to him doesn’t help, nor does the fact that he’s devilishly handsome, appears to be a really nice fella, and is good in a crisis.

When she gradually comes to realise that something has got to give, what she doesn’t want it to be is her heart.

Perfect for fans of Mandy Baggott, Heidi Swain, and Holly Martin.

My Thoughts

This was FUN! Liz Davies always writes such relatable stories packed with loads of humor and heart. Cynthia has the career of her dreams. At only 44 she is targeted to be CEO in the next few years that is until… *bum bum bum* A pink line on the pregnancy test. Determined not to let a minor thing like a baby change anything, Cynthia is convinced that she can have it ALL. Loved how real and relatable this was. I think we all idealize having a baby until that little bundle of joy finally arrives. It was so humorous watching Cynthia deal with her changing body as her pregnancy progressed. I really loved her as a character, I would have love to go to lunch with her and discuss her goings-on. I also loved Macs. He really was the nicest guy ever and still Cynthia was so suspicious of him trying to take her job. The relationship between these two was so great. Once again Liz Davies put a big smile on my face and hope in my heart. The perfect little afternoon Escape.

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.

She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat – she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.

She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper van and travel the world in it.

Agony Auntics by Julie Butterfeild **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Friday all!

This was such a fun book! I can’t even count how many times I was laughing out loud! It was just what I needed!

Agony Auntics

As an agony aunt, Fliss Carmichael should have all the answers but when her own marriage begins unravelling at the seams, she hasn’t a clue where to start. After a simple mistake causes an unintended role swap, she becomes the one seeking advice from an unlikely source!

My Thoughts

Laugh out loud fun! Julie Butterfield has written a humorous uplifting tale. Fliss Rights an advice column as an Agony Aunt (similar to Dear Abby here in the US). Ellie reaches out asking for advice on how to talk to a guy at work she is crushing/falling in love with. Fliss is reminded of the beginning of her relationship with her husband Jasper and in her response mentions to Ellie that her marriage has become a little stagnant. The women start a correspondence offering one another advice and keeping one another up on the events in their lives.

I loved how these two stories were told side-by-side. The blossoming of new love and a marriage needing tending to. Both Ellie and Fliss were so likable and relatable women you’d love to be friends with. Now I have to admit I wasn’t quite certain how Ellie thought she was in love with Logan a guy she’s never even talked to? Especially because she just got out of a relationship with a pretty good guy. Fliss I really felt for. She was trying so hard and Jasper wow he could be a real jerk. There were so many humorous moments in this book that had me laughing so hard tears were coming out my eyes. So the next time you’re in the mood for a good belly laugh pick this one up!

Julie Butterfield belongs to the rather large group of ‘always wanted to write’ authors who finally found the time to sit down and put pen to paper – or rather fingers to keyboard.
She wrote her first book purely for pleasure and was very surprised to discover that so many people enjoyed the story and wanted more, so she decided to carry on writing.
It has to be pointed out that her first novel, ‘Did I Mention I Won The Lottery’ is a complete work of fiction and she did not, in fact, receive millions in her bank account and forget to mention it to her husband – even though he still asks her every day if she has anything to tell him

Can I Give My Husband Back? by Kristen Bailey **Book Review** @bookouture

Happy Wednesday all!

This was such a fun fun book! So many laugh out loud moments, just made my day all that much better!

My Thoughts

Fun fun fun! Kristen Bailey brightened my day with this laugh out loud story packed with wit and authenticity. No sugarcoating Here, this was a humorous look at real people with real problems. This is the story of Emma, mother to two little girls Iris and Violet. Emma has recently left her philandering, no good, arrogant husband Simon. Simon was really one of the most despicable men I’ve read about in a long time and that’s saying something because I read a lot of thrillers full of slimy bastards. Emma was so likable and relatable, this probably made Simon look even worse. Their two young daughters Iris and Violet were adorable, love their curiosity as they tried to figure out what was going on with the adults around them. The highlight of the book really was Emma‘s relationship with her four sisters, especially youngest sister Lucy who is currently living with her. Lucy’s antics made me laugh more than once, especially when she was competing in a princess Elsa- Frozen contest. Emma meets a new man in the book and the romance was sweet but understated, and I appreciated that. This was an entertaining real occasionally vulgar look at the not so pretty side of life. I am definitely looking forward to more stories to come involving these sisters.

About the Book

It’s normal to prefer getting a filling at the dentist’s to spending time with your husband, right?

I thought I was sorted on the life front. I was a heart surgeon with a loving partner and two gorgeous little girls. Except my husband’s version of ‘loving’ is lying, cheating and sleeping his way around London. Which means I definitely deserve a refund.

Unfortunately, moving on isn’t that simple. Just because I know how to operate on a heart doesn’t mean I know how to fix my broken one. Plus, I lost the receipt for him years ago so I’m definitely getting short changed.

But now I’m single, am I ready to mingle? There are a few minor issues:

1) The last time I went on a date double denim was in fashion and my eyebrows were horrendously overplucked.
2) Men wear stupidly skinny jeans now.
3) I don’t know how to use dating apps but at least I don’t have to get changed out of my pyjamas.
4) Sometimes the most promising thing you have in common with a guy is a shared love of prawns.
5) I don’t know whether to open a date with ‘hi’ or ‘hello’ or ‘hey’ and once I ended up saying ‘howdy’.

Everything happens for a reason, they say. There’s plenty more fish in the sea. But what happens when everything falls apart and you haven’t got a clue how to go fishing?

An absolutely hilarious and utterly relatable tale for anyone who has ever survived a nightmare relationship, felt a little lonely or nursed a broken heart with wine and carbs. This feel-good novel will get you back on your feet and genuinely laughing out loud. Perfect for fans of Why Mummy Drinks, Sophie Ranald and Sophie Kinsella.

Time Out by Emma Murray **Book Review** @rararesources @boldwoodbooks

Happy Wednesday all!

This was such a fun and authentic story about the good, the bad, and the ugly of motherhood!💁🏻‍♀️

My Thoughts

A hilarious and authentic look at motherhood, the good, the bad, the ugly. Emma Murray has infused this delightful story with loads of wit, whimsy, and humor. As a mother of three adult children (almost) I appreciated this realistic dive into the most remarkable yet most challenging job I’ve ever had. Saoirs is a stressed out sleep deprived mother to precocious four-year-old Anna. Her controlling neat freak husband David has been growing distant. Saoirs has been working as a ghost writer for business publications so when her agent reaches out to see if she would be interested in writing a book about motherhood she is thrown off. How can she possibly write a book about the joys of being a mother when it is a constant struggle. Completely overwhelmed Saoirs is in need of a TIME OUT. Tantruming toddlers, judgmental mommies, hostile teachers, supportive friends, cheating husband, arctic swimming, disturbing dreams, repaired relationships.

This was so fun! I loved Saoirs and would have loved to be one of her mommy friends. The pretentious “organic” mommies were hilarious. I remember being a new mother and so worried I was doing everything wrong and absolutely convinced everyone else was doing everything right. I never made any homemade baby food, never used cloth diapers, breast-feeding was not for me, gave my kids Cheerios, let them watch television…. and you know what? My kids are thriving! I really appreciated the realism in the story and it brought back so many memories both good and bad.

About the Book

Time Out

‘It’s just a phase,’ they said. ‘These are the happiest years of your life,’ they said…

Mother of one and professional writer Saoirse (pronounced Seersha, not Searcy – thanks a bunch Game of Thrones!) is still adjusting to the demands of motherhood, four years after the birth of her daughter, Anna.

Living in the claustrophobic London suburb of Woodvale, and being surrounded by passive-aggressive mum-wars, isn’t helping. Neither is her increasingly pent-up anger at her once-perfect husband. Her only comrade in arms, best friend Bea, is the one thing keeping her sane.

When Saoirse’s agent asks her to pitch for a book, she is horrified to discover the topic is motherhood. How can she possibly write a ‘warts and all’ account of being a mother without giving away what it’s really like?

Laugh-out-loud funny, painfully well-observed, but with an unmistakable warmth and unforgettable characters, this is the perfect antidote to all those parenting bibles that bear absolutely no relation to real life. The novel may or may not have been inspired by real life…

Would Like to Meet by Rachel Winters **Book Review**

Happy Mother’s Day!

Today is Mother’s Day in the US and unfortunately I won’t be able to see my mom or two of my kids, but I’m going to make the best of it!

My Thoughts

LOVED IT! Rachel Winters’ debut was a true laugh out loud romcom. I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard while reading a book, there is the most hilarious hen do/bachelor party ever in this fun story. This book is instantly being put on my FAVs shelf, I just loved everything about it, it was the perfect mood lifter during these crazy times. Evie is assistant to a famous agent and has been tasked with the job to make sure screenwriter Ezra finishes his romcom script on time. Ezra is difficult and arrogant, Evie and her friends have nicknamed him the N.O.B. The number one boyChild. Ezra tells Evie he will finish his script on time if she can prove to him that she can actually meet someone through one of these ridiculous romcom meet cutes. Let the fun ensue. Evie manufactures one hilarious yet humiliating meet cute after another and reports back to Ezra. Will Ezra finish the script on time? Will Evie finally get her long due promotion? Will one of these crazy meet cutes actually work? A definite feel good story guaranteed to make you laugh and want to rewatch all your favorite romcoms.

About the Book

Can you fall in love like they do in the movies?

It’s Evie Summers’ job to find out. Because if she can’t convince her film agency’s biggest client, Ezra Chester, to write the romantic-comedy screenplay he owes producers, her career will be over. The catch? He thinks rom-coms are unrealistic – and he’ll only put pen to paper if Evie shows him that it’s possible to meet a man in real life the way it happens on the big screen.

Cynical Evie might not believe in happily ever after, but she’ll do what it takes to save the job that’s been her lifeline…even if it means reenacting iconic rom-com scenes in public. Spilling orange juice on a cute stranger? No problem. Leaving her number in books all over London to see who calls? Done. With a little help from her well-meaning friends – and Ben and Anette, the adorable father-daughter duo who keep witnessing her humiliations – Evie is determined to prove she can meet a man the way Sally met Harry. But can a workaholic who’s given up on love find a meet-cute of her very own?

Have a lovely day! Berit 💐

A Bad Day for Sunshine by Darynda Jones **Book Review** @stmartinspress @darynda

Happy Tuesday everybody!

This was such a fun fun book! If you need an escape from all that is going on I cannot recommend this one enough, I loved every minute I spend with these crazy characters!🐓

My Thoughts

Move over Charley Davidson there’s a new sheriff in town and her name is Sunshine!

Wow this was fun! Darynda Jones is the queen when it comes to spinning stories filled with Snark, humor, banter, quirky characters, and hot men. I was a huge fan of the Charley Davidson series and sad to see it end, but I think I found a new favorite. Sunshine Vicram has returned to small town Del Sol, New Mexico. She is the newly elected Sheriff and that is slightly problematic seeing though she didn’t even run for the position? But Sunshine is a big girl now, it is time to face her past and what could possibly go wrong in this sleepy small town? Loved Sunshine! She was smart, strong, savvy, and sassy. She is also a single mother to 14-year-old Aury. Aury was a tremendously likable character as well definitely her mother‘s daughter, but perhaps with a little more common sense and tact. I loved how we got both of these characters perspectives, really giving the story a refreshing feel. And ladies there are some men in this book that will give Reyes a run for his money. Sunshine’s BFF and new coworker Quincy as well as her long lost crush Levi. Aury also gets her very own crush in a young sweet mysterious boy named Cruise. A kidnapping, an escaped prisoner, missing pieces of the past, secrets, attraction, laughs, and heart. And oh yeah, a cliffhanger that will leave you wanting more. My only complaint… the second book isnt already out.

About the Book

New York Times best-selling author Darynda Jones is back with the first novel in the brand-new snarky, sassy, wickedly fun Sunshine Vicram series – A Bad Day for Sunshine!

“Laugh-out-loud funny, intensely suspenseful, page-turning fun.” (New York Times best-selling author Allison Brennan)

A Bad Day for Sunshine is a great day for the rest of us – captivating characters, great writing, pace, humor and suspense.” (Number-one New York Times best-selling author Lee Child)

Sheriff Sunshine Vicram finds her cup o’ joe more than half full when the small village of Del Sol, New Mexico, becomes the center of national attention for a kidnapper on the loose.

Del Sol, New Mexico is known for three things: its fry-an-egg-on-the-cement summers, its strong cups of coffee – and, now, a nationwide manhunt? Del Sol native Sunshine Vicram has returned to town as the elected sheriff – thanks to her adorably meddlesome parents who nominated her – and she expects her biggest crime wave to involve an elderly flasher named Doug. But a teenage girl is missing, a kidnapper is on the loose, and all of this is reminding Sunshine why she left Del Sol in the first place. Add to that the trouble at her daughter’s new school, plus and a kidnapped prized rooster named Puff Daddy, and, well, the forecast looks anything but sunny.

But even clouds have their silver linings. This one’s got Levi, Sunshine’s sexy, almost-old-flame, and a fiery-hot US Marshall. With temperatures rising everywhere she turns, Del Sol’s normally cool-minded sheriff is finding herself knee-deep in drama and danger. Can Sunshine face the call of duty – and find the kidnapper who’s terrorizing her beloved hometown – without falling head over high heels in love…or worse?
