Dead Secret by Noelle Holten **Book Review** @botbspublicity @nholten40

This new WordPress format has me pulling my hair out! I no longer have a choice so bear with me as I learn an entirely new way to post.🤬

Excited to share today my review for this excellent crime thriller! I truly believe this is the best of the series yet and I look forward to what’s next from Noelle!

My Thoughts

DC Maggie Jamison is back! Love this crime thriller series and this might be the best book yet! Each book is a self-contained case and can be read as a standalone, but once you’ve read one you’re going to want to read them all! Maggie is working on a seemingly innocuous murder case until a photograph is discovered that changes it’s trajectory. Lucy Sherwood plays a bigger role in this story then she did in the previous two. I have to say I was really thrilled to see more of her character after getting to know her so well in the first book. Lucy is opening up a home for victims of domestic abuse and her first resident is a bit of an enigma. Now I knew somehow these two storylines had something to do with one another, and I had so much fun trying to puzzle it out. I also really liked getting to no Maggie a bit better and enjoyed her flirty banter with reporter Julie. As always I was completely fascinated by the politics and inner workings of the police department and enjoyed that aspect of the story. This was such a well told fast paced thriller that had me completely invested! I did figure out who the culprit was slightly before the reveal in this book, but wow so well executed! And that ending?!?! That ending has me salivating for the next story in this excellent series!

About the Book

‘Enthralling from the first page to the last. Devoured in one sitting. Noelle Holten has become one of my must-read authors’ Angela Marsons, bestselling author of the Detective Kim Stone series

Psychopaths can take root in the unlikeliest soil…

DC Maggie Jamieson crosses paths once again with Probation Officer Lucy Sherwood when a domestic violence survivor stumbles into her new refuge, unable to speak, desperate for help.

Then another case hits Maggie’s desk. A young man has been murdered, and a curious constellation of black dots has been inked onto his cheek.

That’s when DCI Hastings goes missing and Maggie uncovers a shocking connection that turns the case on its head.

Every family may hide secrets, but not every family buries them…

Dead Perfect by Noelle Holten **Book Review** @botbspublicity @onemorechapter @nholten40

happy hump day!

well this will be my last post of the year! I am taking a little bit of a break until January 5. I know Christmas is looking a little different for all of us this year but I hold out hope that next Christmas will be the best one ever!❤️💚

My Thoughts

A dark and creepy tale. This is the third book in Noelle Holten’s DC Maggie Jameson series; and I’d have to say the BEST YET! I also have to say Noelle you’re starting to scare me a little, what’s going on in that brain of yours? The book picks up right where the last book ended. A dead body is discovered that bares an uncanny resemblance to one of Maggie‘s friends. relieved to find out it was not her friend, but concerned that this is no coincidence Maggie puts her all into the case. but as the bodies start falling it looks as though the killer is escalating. What is his end game and is Kate the true prize. A twisted and disturbing Game of cat and mouse. I could not figure out what the killer was playing at, I just knew he was one screwed up person. Maggie showed a little more emotion in this book. She generally keeps others and the reader at arms distance but it was nice to see a little more about her in this book. it was also nice to see some diversity with Maggie coming to terms with her sexuality. I am not certain they would’ve kept Maggie on this case, I thought it was a bit of a conflict of interest, but hey it’s fiction. The investigation was intriguing and even though I read quite a few reviews that said the culprit was revealed early I truly had no idea who it was. And more than that I was very surprised by his motivation, not sure I’ve ever seen things play out like this before. another electric installment in this compelling series.

*** Big thank you to One More Chapter for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

Hit Man Sam by Morgen Bailey @morgenwriteruk @botbspublicity #bookreview #hitmansam

Happy hump day!

Excited to share my review for this little gem! Thanks so much Sarah for my invitation to the tour!🥰

My Thoughts

This was my very first “Lad Lit“ book. What is Lad Let you may ask? Well it is pretty much the male counterpart to Chick Lit. So this book was pretty much about Becky Bloomwood trying to become a hitman, except Becky is a man named Sam. Sam is a 27-year-old man living in the UK. He just got out of a relationship and is pretty much bumbling his way through life. When he sees an ad for hitman school he thinks it is a good idea (for some reason). So look out James Bond here comes Sam!

This book was in a word FUN! Sam was a great character definitely made me laugh more than once. The story is told in short chapters that really kept the story moving. There is a large cast of intriguing characters and multiple threads that are skillfully woven together by the author. This is the perfect little book to brighten your afternoon. It will make you smile, it will make you laugh, and it will make you want to be a hitman (OK probably not make you want to be a hitman😉).

*** thank you to the author for my gifted copy ***

About the Book

Having been made redundant as a photocopier software designer, Sam Simpson is lured by a cryptic advert. As he learns it is for a trainee hitman, will he be tough enough to see the job through? Even James Bond had to start somewhere and Sam, as his alias Josh Bradley, looks forward to enjoying James’ lifestyle, although soon embroiled in a love triangle, Sam hadn’t expected things to get so complicated so quickly.

My Last Lie by Ella Drummond @drummondella1 @herabooks @BOTBSPublicity #bookreview #mylastlie

Happy Sunday bibliophiles!

Excited to share with you today my review for this intriguing story that captivated me from first to last page! Many thanks to Sarah for my invitation to the tour!🌹

My Thoughts

An eerie and engaging story that kept me riveted from first page to last!

This book was a slow burner that had me suspecting everybody. This is Ella Drummond’s debut and I think she did a marvelous job with Miss direction and twists. The characters were all very well drawn, even though most weren’t all that likable and one was downright despicable. A special shout out needs to go to Pilar’s mother, such a wonderful fascinating character that you will love to hate! A cast of interesting characters and a clever plot, makes for one unputdownable compulsive thriller!

Pilar and Theo have just suffered a terrible tragedy followed by a breakdown of both spirit and marriage. Theo surprises Pilar with a new start and a new home in Cornwall. However soon after moving into their new home strange things start happening, things are moved around, mysterious phone calls, just to name a few. Convinced that someone is messing with her as well as watching her, Pilar is compelled to figure out who knows the secrets that she is hiding. But Pilar is not the only one with things to hide.

Pilar was a sympathetic character. Not only has she suffered this terrible tragedy, but who hasn’t been convinced that somebody move something from where they are sure they left it? Throughout the story I was never quite sure if Pilar was completely sane or not? So many crazy twists and even though I was pretty convinced of the who, I had no idea of the why! And that last lie? Wow!

An addictive intriguing story that will completely draw you in! Recommend!

*** many thanks to Hera Books for my copy of this book ***

Russian Roulette by Keith Nixon @knntom @BOTBSPublicity #bookreview

Happy Day of love!

Excited to share with you my review for this book perfect for your Valentine’s reading! (Or maybe not) well I suppose it all depends on how you feel about love and hearts and all that good stuff! This is a dark and gritty story that will appeal to your darker side! Many thanks to Sarah for my invitation to the tour!🖤

My Thoughts

A dark gritty crime thriller full of quirky characters!

This is the first book in the Constantine series… this book is just shy of 200 pages, but let me tell you there is a lot packed into this little book! Danger deceit and a dominatrix just to name a few… The story might be a little gritty but the characters are so quirky, it really made for a wonderful balance…

Constantine is XKGB and he just can’t seem to quell The investigator in him… Constantine also seems to surround himself with a cast of eccentric characters… Plastic Fantastic and Fat Gary just to name a few….

Had anyone told me I enjoy a story about a burly Russian and a dominatrix I would’ve told them they were crazy, and I would’ve been wrong! This book really caught me by surprise it was an engaging and captivating read with characters I truly adored! Recommend!

About the Book

A reluctant investigator, a sordid English seaside town, a criminal underbelly.

Trouble has a habit of seeking out Konstantin, whether he wants it or not. Starting from the moment he arrives in the seedy seaside town of Margate where he’s supposed to be in hiding from his ex-employers. All Konstantin wants is to keep his head down and be left alone. But it’s not to be. People have their problems and Konstantin can’t help but get involved.

Konstantin has to overcome the drug dealer, the loan shark and a Liverpudlian gangster. Then there’s the so-called good guys, the councilors and lawyers who are worse than the criminals. Enter Fidelity Brown, aka Plastic Fantastic, a dominatrix who has her own mélange of secrets and lies, and nightclub owner Ken who’s connected to all the wrong people. Both help Konstantin solve the cases dropped on his doorstep.

Cue deception, murder, mayhem as the Russian settles into his new life. Margate will never be the same again. And neither will Konstantin…

Meet the enigmatic Konstantin, a man with a dark history and darker future in the start of a unique crime thriller series laced with a healthy dose of black humour. Pick up Russian Roulette to find out what all the fuss is about.
