The Love Island Bookshop by Kate Frost **Book Review**

Hello book people!

It is summertime! So Time to break out the Beach Reads!🏖

The Love Island Bookshop

A dream job, two handsome men, one destructive act. Will Freya’s opportunity of a lifetime end in tears?

When Freya leaves her publishing job in London to be a barefoot bookseller in the Maldives, it’s the push she needs to move on from her sadness and reignite her passion for life.

While resort owner Zander is charming, it’s handsome dive instructor Aaron who befriends her when she needs it most. But all is not what it seems and there’s trouble brewing in paradise.

Taking a chance on happiness is harder than she imagined. Can Freya let go of her heartache and allow herself to fall in love again?

My Thoughts

Sun. Sand. Book in hand. This book was truly the perfect escape! What more could a book loving, beach loving girl want then a barefoot book shop in the middle of a tropical paradise? I am seriously ready to pack my bags and head to the Maldives! Freya is in need of a change of scenery after going through some dark moments in her life. When she sees an ad for the opportunity to run a barefoot book shop in paradise she is excited, but a little apprehensive. Her energetic personality and experience as an editor makes her the perfect candidate and she is selected from over 20,000 other applicants for the job. When she gets to the Maldives she is instantly in love with the Islands beauty, and charmed buy a couple gorgeous men. When reading the blurb to this book I was hesitant because I’m not always a huge fan of a love triangle. However, this was a love triangle done well. Freya was a very likable sympathetic character. I completely related to her love for Books and this gorgeous setting. I also felt for her and what she’s been through. I was very happy with the direction the book took and pleased with her choice for love. This is the perfect summer read, a little vacay in a book.

Her Aussie Holiday by Stefanie London **Book Review** @tlcbooktours @entangledpub

Hello book friends!

This was such a sweet story! The perfect holiday Romance with a chance for more.🏖

My Thoughts

A sweet small town summer romance. Cora needs a break and Liv needs a place to stay in New York, so the two decide to do a house swap. Cora is so elated when she gets to the little isolated cottage in Australia, that is until she starts the shower and the water starts going everywhere. Fortunately for her Liv’se older brother Trent missed the memo that his sister was letting someone stay at her house. Thinking he will camp out on his sister’s couch He is surprised to find someone in the cottage and even more surprised to see the water spraying everywhere. But Trent acts quickly gets the water shut off and the two of them begin to clean up the damage. I’m sure you know where this story is going, but the journey getting there was so fun. A gorgeous setting, charming characters, adorable banter, all the feels, what more can you ask for from a romance?

This book was pure magic. I adored both of these characters so much. Cora was just so kind and caring, I felt for her and her insecurities. Her parents were not very supportive and her mother was despicable. Trent on the other hand comes from a loving supportive family, but he’s got a secret. He’s also got rock hard abs and a heart of gold. Now I have to admit it was a little awkward for me reading about a male love interest named Trent because that is my oldest son’s name. Of course I do think Trent was a great guy, because you know his name is Trent. LOL! But seriously these two were adorable together and I was really rooting for them the entire time.

The Friendship List by Susan Mallery **book Review** @harlequinbooks @harperaudio

Happy Sunday all!

This was such a fun uplifting heartwarming book with the perfect dose of friendship and romance!💕

My Thoughts

An engaging story with the perfect balance of friendship and romance, whimsy and charm, Smiles and sobs. Susan Mallery is a masterful storyteller who always manages to brighten my day. Ellen and Unity have been best friends since they were very young. Ellen is a single mom to a teenage son and has not been out on a date since she got pregnant at 17. Unity lost her husband three years ago and still has not been able to remove his clothing from the closet. When Ellen overhears her son telling a friend he’s not sure he can go off to college because his mom needs him, she knows it’s time to make a change. Unity is on board to help her friend, but of course she doesn’t need to change it’s perfectly normal to spend most of her time socializing with people over twice her age, right? The friends create a list of things to do that will prove that they are more than happy that includes things like: wear a bikini on the beach, get a tattoo, skydive, rock climb, have sex, wear clothes that fit, join the local swim club… At first Ellen and unity are hesitant, only willing to change for others. BUT as they start to venture out of their comfort zones they begin to realize the change is more about them than anyone else.

This book surprised me a bit *in a good way* I wasn’t expecting it to be so romance heavy and steamy. Loved both love stories and the men involved. I also really appreciated that we got the perspectives of not only Ellen and Unity but also Keith and Thaddeus, their love interestss. I do have to admit I enjoyed Ellen and Keith’s story a little bit more. As a single mom I found it more relatable. I also really liked their kids Cooper and Lisa, and the college tour road trip. Unity was harder to connect with, but I really like how her story unfolded. The audiobook was narrated by Tanya Eby Who is one of the absolute best. She did a remarkable job with giving each of these characters their own unique voice and personality. A lovely feel good story!

Author Q&A

Q&A with Susan Mallery

Q: Where did the inspiration for The Friendship List’s plot come from?

A: The inspiration for The Friendship List came from a reader—but I don’t think it’s exactly the story the reader was asking for. A couple years ago, a reader suggested I write a story about empty nesters, a couple whose children had grown up and were moving out. I considered the idea, but it didn’t immediately sing for me.

Then, while washing dishes—which is when I often get ideas—I thought to myself, “What if it isn’t a couple, but a single mom? And what if she had her baby really young, like in high school? She would be in her midthirties when her kid went to college. What would that be like?”

That’s the spark that led to Ellen, a single mom who had her son when she was a senior in high school. Since then, she has put his needs first, always, to the point where she hasn’t dated really at all in her adult life. When her son was little, she worked her butt off to raise him and go to college to become a math teacher.

The story starts as Ellen overhears her son telling a friend he can’t go away to college because his mom doesn’t have a life without him. They’re a team, and she needs him. Ellen is horrified that she’s holding him back, and she knows she has to do something drastic to convince him that it’s safe for him to follow his dreams.

Unity, Ellen’s best friend for as long as they both can remember, is a young widow, still mourning the death of her husband three years ago. She’s stuck in her grief, and reluctant to change that because getting over her grief might mean really letting go of the love of her life forever. But for Ellen’s sake, Unity comes up with the friendship list—a series of challenges designed to shake up their lives.

One way or another, this will be a summer that will change them forever. The Friendship List is a celebration of friendship. I know authors aren’t supposed to have favorite books, but I have to admit, this is one of my favorite things that I’ve ever written—certainly the funniest. Every day, I couldn’t wait to get to my desk, excited to write that day’s fun scene. It was pure joy from page 1 to The End, and I hope you’ll love it, too.

Q: Who is your favorite character in this novel and why?

A: I love both of the friends, but Ellen probably squeaks out a narrow win over Unity simply because her journey was so much fun. Think about it—she had her kid when she was seventeen years old, and from that moment on, her life revolved around him so she missed out on the things most people experience in their twenties. Dating, parties, bar-hopping. She was home studying and taking care of her kid.

And in fact, he’s the impetus for her to change, as well, because she  sees  that what’s best for him now is for her to let go, to get a life of her own. When she realizes all that she’s been missing, she dives in with her whole heart and body, with such enthusiasm that she had me laughing every day. Suddenly she wants to try everything all at once. Love, love, love, love her.

Q: Of the challenges in the book, which was the most fun to write about? Why?

A: Oh, that’s a tough one! I don’t know if I want to tell you my favorite-favorite because it might be too much of a spoiler. So instead, I’ll tell you one of my other favorites, which is more of a teaser than a spoiler. 😊 One of Ellen’s challenges is to wear clothes that fit, instead of her normal habit of wearing clothes that are at least three sizes too large for her. Baggy is her comfort zone. The first time she wears an outfit that shows the shape of her body, her pal Keith can’t help looking at her in a whole new way. Here’s a clip:

He stared at her in confusion. Something was different with Ellen, he thought, trying to figure out what it was.

He cataloged her appearance. Her long hair was pulled back in a ponytail, just like always. She had on makeup maybe, which was a surprise, but made her eyes looked bluer than usual. As for what she was wearing, it was just some shirt thing and pants that stopped just below her knee. Nothing out of the ordinary except—

He swore silently. The clothes fit. For once they weren’t swirling around her, the extra fabric concealing every part of her body. He could see the shape of her waist and her hips, the outline of her thighs. And breasts. Ellen had breasts!

He realized he was staring and forced his gaze away. Of course she had breasts. Women had breasts. Ellen’s were no big deal. Only he’d never noticed them before and he didn’t want to see them now.

Q: What is your idea of a good personal challenge for yourself?

A: The challenges in The Friendship List are meant to push the women out of their comfort zone and be a little intimidating for them, so my personal challenge will have to do the same. Hmm… Oh! How about a plunging V neckline? Cleavage makes me really self-conscious, but I admire women who can proudly show off their curves.

I’m nervous just thinking about it!

Q: Do your characters tell you their stories a bit at a time or all at once? Do they ever pull you in unexpected directions changing up the plot you originally planned?

A: Yes, yes, and yes. It depends on the story. Very rarely, a story will come to me fully formed. Daughters of the Bride was like that. A gift book. That almost never happens. Usually, I get a spark of an idea. I write up some notes, then set it aside. If I’m still thinking about it, I know it has potential. I get a lot of ideas that never go anywhere. They might make fine stories for someone else, but if they’re not tugging at me, I let them go.

I’m on the extreme-plotter end of the plotter/pantser spectrum. (For those who don’t know, a plotter is a writer who plots the story in advance. A pantser is a writer who flies by the seat of her pants, without knowing where the story is going.) I generally work out story problems during my plotting process, which makes me feel free to relax and sink into the story while I’m writing.

When I get into the flow of a book, the characters do take over and sometimes they do surprise me. When they take me in a direction I didn’t expect, I have to step back to look at the big picture to adjust. I never try to force a character to do something that doesn’t feel right for him or her. Every decision must be motivated.

In The Friendship List, Unity threw me for a loop early on. I knew she was still in love with her late husband, but until I wrote a particular scene, I didn’t realize just how broken she still was. I did have to make some very serious adjustments to her road to a happy ending. And in the end, as I brought her out of that darkness, I cried. So satisfying!

Q: Do you have pets? How do the animals you have now or have had in the past influence writing animals into your stories?

A: Yes, I have three pets. Two ragdoll cats, siblings Alex and Lucy, and a miniature poodle named Kelli. I love animals of all kinds. I’m a big supporter of Seattle Humane and the amazing work they do for animals in and around Seattle.

Animals play a big role in my books. When they have a part in the story, they are genuine characters because I believe, like humans, each animal has its own unique quirks and personality traits. The book I’m working on right now will be the first book in my new series, Wishing Tree—Christmas romances—and there are two dogs in the book who I adore. Bella is a Great Dane who loves to play dress-up in cute canine ensembles, and who is intimidated by a dachshund named Burt. The first Wishing Tree romance will be out in 2021.

Q: Is there a genre of books that you have not written yet but might contemplate writing in the future? What might that be?

A: I recently toyed with the idea of writing a thriller. I even did quite a bit of research on Bitcoin, which was going to be a big subplot. I decided against the thriller, but research is never wasted—one of the characters in The Friendship List became a Bitcoin millionaire, and then a regular-money millionaire. Plus, I’m kind of proud of myself—it took me two weeks of research to be able to understand crypto-currency, but I’m now I’m at least cocktail-party level literate. 😊

Q: What was the first book you sold/published and how did you celebrate when you received the acceptance letter from the publisher?

A: The first book I sold was a historical romance called Frontier Flame. A few months after that, I sold a book to (then Silhouette) Special Edition. Both books came out the same month, so the first time I was published was with two books. It was very heady! Of course, before that and after that I had many story ideas rejected. Even now, although infrequently, one of my ideas can be rejected. It happened recently. Still stings, but not as badly.

I celebrated my first sale by calling all of my writer friends and squealing over the phone, and then by going out for a nice dinner with my husband.

Q: What do you love to do when not writing?

A: I love hanging out with my friends—and I miss that right now because of the coronavirus. Friendship is one of the most fundamental relationships in a woman’s life. You might argue “in a man’s life, too,” but from what I’ve observed, most men don’t have the same visceral need for community that women do. My husband once told me, “You’re all I need.” Which is sweet and romantic and probably true. I love him dearly, more than any other human being on the planet, but I need friends, too. My friends are the family I chose, and I nurture those relationships in every way I can.

Excerpt

Silver Pines was the largest retirement community in the Pacific Northwest. There were single-family homes, condos, a golf course, several clubhouses, three restaurants, a workout facility, two pools, tennis and pickleball courts, and a grocery store. Deeper into the multi-acre complex were the independent living apartments, assisted living apartments, memory care and rehab facilities, a skilled nursing home and an outpatient surgery center.

The community hosted weekly garage sales, movie nights and all kind of clubs. The senior center—housed in the largest of the clubhouses—was open to the public.

Unity had discovered it and Silver Pines when she’d first moved back, three years ago. She’d decided to take up knitting, and the senior center had offered a class. She’d enjoyed the company so much, she’d joined the local pickleball league and was a regular at various events. Now, with the exception of Ellen, all her friends were over the age of sixty-five.

She drove through quiet, well-maintained streets. The association took care of all front lawns—freeing the residents from worry. Unity smiled. Maybe Howard should tell his son about the work his lawn business could have here. Not that she was interested. Too many of her friends were trying to fix her up. They liked Unity and wanted to see her “happy.” When she tried to tell them it had been only three years and she was nowhere near over Stuart, they told her she shouldn’t wallow. As if she had a choice about the amount of grief in her life. She also tried explaining that she’d had one great marriage and didn’t need another one, but that didn’t work either. Only Ellen let her be.

Unity turned onto a side street, then another, before pulling in front of a small rambler. The house was two bedrooms and two baths—about twelve hundred square feet. Sadly, Betty had fallen the previous week and broken her hip and would be moving into an independent living apartment.

Betty’s soon-to-be former house, like all the other houses, was on a single level with no stairs. The path from the street to the dark blue front door had a gentle incline. There were no steps anywhere in the house. The doorways were wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Inside the finishes were upscale. There were several floor plans and this was one of Unity’s favorites.

Dagmar met her at the front door. “You’re here. Good. We can get started right away. I went and saw Betty yesterday and got a list of all the things she wants us to pack for her. The movers come in the morning and take care of the rest of it.”

Dagmar, a seventysomething former librarian, had the energy level of a brewing volcano. She wore her straight hair in a chin-length bob. The color varied, sometimes significantly. Currently her swinging, shiny hair was a deep auburn with a single purple stripe on her left side. Her clothes matched her personality—vibrant hues battled prints for attention. She was as likely to show up in a Hawaiian-print caftan as riding pants and a bullfighter’s bolero jacket.

Today she had on a calf-length wrap skirt done in a balloon animal print. Her twinset picked up the lime green of one of the balloons and seemed conservative enough until she turned around and Unity saw a sequined version of the Rolling Stones open mouth logo. As always, reading glasses perched on Dagmar’s head.

“Let’s start in the bedroom. All she wants us to pack up there are her unmentionables.” Dagmar grinned over her shoulder as she led the way through the cheerful living room to the short hallway. “She used those exact words. Unmentionables. What is this? The set of Little Women? I told her unless she had some fur lined G-strings, the movers weren’t going to care, but you know how Betty is.”

Unity was used to Dagmar’s whirlwind, take-charge attitude. The first time Unity had come to Silver Pines to take her knitting classes, Dagmar had spotted her immediately. Within ten minutes, she pretty much knew Unity’s life story. By the end of the fifty-minute lesson, she’d introduced Unity to everyone in the class and had invited Unity to a potluck and a pickleball game. They’d been friends ever since.

“I packed up her medications yesterday,” Dagmar told her, pointing to the bathroom. “I’m hiding them at my place until she’s out of rehab. You know that doctor of hers is going to mess with everything and it will take her weeks to get back on track. This way I have a stash so we can figure it out as we go.”

“Because self-medication is always the answer?” Unity asked wryly.

“At our age, it can be.” Dagmar pointed to the roll of packing paper on the bed. “You get going on her Swarovski collection while I pack up the girl stuff. That’s mostly what she’s worried about. Her glass animals and the pictures, of course.” Dagmar’s smile faded. “She won’t have room to hang them at her new apartment. I’ve been thinking that I should put them all in a photo album for her.”

Before Unity could say anything, Dagmar pointed to the paper. “Chop-chop. I have bridge this afternoon and I’m sure you have work you should be doing.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Unity didn’t take offense at the instruction—it was simply Dagmar’s way. She unrolled the paper, then she walked around the small house, collecting the crystal animals in a sturdy box.

Betty had them in her hutch, of course, but also on floating shelves in the living room and den. As Unity gathered crystal swans and frogs, dogs and birds, she looked around at various rooms. The kitchen was recently remodeled, with quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances. There was plenty of storage and a back deck with room for a table and chairs, along with a barbecue.

Have a lovely day! XOXO Berit🦋

The Shore House by Heidi Hostetter **Book Review** @bookouture

Happy Tuesday all!

Loved this delightful beach read! See, sand, forgiveness, food, and family!🏖

My Thoughts

Sea. Sand. Family. Heidi Hostetter whisked me away to the Jersey shore with her vivid storytelling. A splashing story about family, forgiveness, food, and community. As the mother of adult children I completely related to Kaye and her desire to spend the summer making new memories with her adult children. Three years ago Kaye’s husband Chase had a heart attack and ever since Kaye has been super diligent. But this summer she wants some normalcy. A summer to never forget spent at the family‘s Beachhouse on the Jersey shore. Her daughter Stacey and son Bradley are less than thrilled about this but they are willing to go along to keep the family peace. Stacey has a doting husband, two adorable children and one on the way, but she is missing the buzz of her career. Bradley is still figuring things out, but one thing he knows is he is not living up to his father’s expectations. The family spends the summer getting to know one another again and healing old wounds.

I enjoyed spending time with this family in this charming seaside town. I probably found Kaye the most relatable character, but I did understand why she irritated her husband and children. Poor Chase The man was just trying to live and his well meaning wife was micromanaging everything. I really liked Stacey and her husband Ryan‘s relationship and how their story played out in the book. Bradley was another great character and I love the touching moments between his father and him. A lovely story about an authentic family, looking forward to future books in this series.

About the Book

When the Bennett family arrive at the shore house to spend the summer together, they bring more baggage than just suitcases…

When Kaye Bennett, matriarch of the Bennett family, summons her adult children to the shore house, she anticipates a vacation full of nostalgia. It’s a chance to relive the carefree joy of summers past: basking in the hot sun, cooling off in the surf and enjoying long, relaxing evenings watching fireflies on the deck. But when Kaye’s son and daughter arrive, late and uncooperative, it becomes clear the family desperately need to reconnect.

Kaye and her daughter Stacy have been quietly at odds for years and resentment has grown around words unsaid. Faced with spending the summer months in such close quarters, Kaye is determined to remind Stacy of happier times and why she once loved their beautiful beachside home.

But both Kaye and Stacy are holding something back. And only when a heart-stopping accident on the beach puts what Stacy most loves at risk are the two women finally able to set free the secrets in their shared past.

Will opening up to each other about what’s in their hearts allow the Bennett family to finally heal? A story of love, forgiveness and the power of family bonds, The Shore House is a heartfelt summer read, perfect for fans of Elin Hilderbrand, Pamela Kelley and Nancy Thayer.

About the Author

Heidi Hostetter grew up in New Jersey and spent summers at her grandparents’ house on the shore. Every magical thing was there, from sparklers and fireflies at night to whole days spent swimming in the ocean and exploring tide pools. She and her family have recently moved back to the DC-area and live in a one hundred-year-old house that’s definitely haunted.

When she’s not writing – or reading – you can probably find her digging in her garden, ripping back a knitting project, or burning dinner. Her writing partner, a labradoodle named Emmett shares her office, keeping a careful watch for errant squirrels and neighborhood shenanigans.

TGIF book people!

I am loving this series! The sisters are the best, cannot wait to see what’s in store for them next!

Will Paddy fall in love with more than just the glorious blue skies of Cornwall? Or are there storm clouds gathering ahead?

Escape to the Cornish coast this summer with this completely uplifting romcom – perfect for fans of Holly Martin, Phillipa Ashley and Milly Johnson.

My Thoughts

Loved the second book in this charming series. Liz Hurley has written another whimsical romantic tale. In The first book of the series we Met Ari and her sisters. Ari had just inherited a load of money and a family title. The girls were adjusting to their new found wealth and responsibilities over all their newly inherited properties. Ari also found love in the first book, and now it is Patty’s turn. Patty is an X model who is now in charge of the families property in Cornwall. Patty meets Hal when the two of them are extras in a German television show, playing the parts of bride and groom. There is instant chemistry between Patty and Hal, and before the night is done they find themselves in between the sheets. Everything seems to be going well until… Hal’s fiancé calls. Patty acts how you would expect and sends Hal packing. What follows is a sweet, somewhat complicated, Occasionally frustrating, push and pull between Patty and Hal.

Love these sisters and it was fun to get to know Patty better in this book. She sure did get herself into one heck of a mess, but I did enjoy watching her try to get herself out of it. Hal confused me, I really wanted to like the guy, but wow he was engaged to one witchy woman. Not to mention he wasn’t completely honest with Patty from the beginning. There is so much love in this book both romantic and familial. Also loved how the Cornish community was brought into the story. An engaging story, can’t wait to see which sister gets there HEA next? My guess is Nikk with Hal’s friend Jamie?

Sarah Parsons has a choice ahead of her. After the trip of a lifetime she’s somehow returned home with TWO handsome men wanting to whisk her away into the sunset.

Pulled in two directions across the globe, it’s making life trickier than it sounds. Her gorgeous American, Josh, wants to meet Sarah in Hawaii for a holiday to remember. Meanwhile silver fox, James, plans to wine and dine her in London.

It’s a lot to handle for this Aussie girl, who had totally sworn off men!

Join Sarah after her adventure in One Summer in Santorini, for the heart-warming and uplifting third novel in The Holiday Romance series.

My Thoughts

Purchase Links London, Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand. Sandy Barker takes you around the world in this compelling story. Let me preface this with I do not like love triangles, and boy was this one heck of a love triangle. This is not to say I didn’t like the book, but I was perpetually frustrated with Sarah the female protagonist. SO in the first book of the series Sarah met two men while on vacation in the Greek Islands. Josh a younger free spirit from America. Jack the “silver fox“ A successful millionaire from England. The story starts off with Sarah visiting her sister in London and meeting up with Jack. Jack is very sophisticated and Sarah was very intimidated by this. Where my frustration was with this is that I don’t think Jack was doing anything to make Sarah feel inferior, it was all in Sarah’s head. Jack really was a good guy and did not deserve Sarah‘s mind to be elsewhere when she was with him. Then Sarah went to go visit Josh in Hawaii for New Year’s. Hawaii is gorgeous and the couple was swept up in all its beauty. Sarah was much more relaxed with Josh, but Josh wasn’t willing to commit. Now where this frustrated me is I don’t know how Sarah could be upset with Josh for not committing when she was dating someone else as well? The final part of this book involves Sarah going home to Australia and a quick trip to New Zealand and ultimately her decision between Josh and Jack. My favorite parts of the book (other than all the gorgeous settings) was the relationships between Sarah and her sister as well as Sarah and her Bestie. Although if I were them I would be annoyed with Sarah’s continual whining about having two great guys in love with her, UGH. This is the third book in the series and while you can read it as a standalone you probably would appreciate reading the first book for some backstory (the second book is about Sarah sister Kat, and probably my favorite of the series). An entertaining read set in some pretty spectacular locations.

Summer Strawberries on Swallowtail Bay by Katie Ginger **Book Review** @rararesources

Hello my lovely book friends!

Excited to share my review with you today for this sweet summer romance that will put a huge smile on your face!🍓

Summer Strawberries at Swallowtail Bay

Grab your strawberries and cream and get ready to return to the beautiful Swallowtail Bay!

Summer is in full swing and the locals are getting excited for the launch of the Swallowtail Bay strawberry food festival. But will all run smoothly when festival organiser Hetty’s heart is torn between lord of the manor John Thornhill and successful bakery owner Ben?

My Thoughts

A sweet and scrumptious romance. Katie Ginger has written a charming story packed with delightful characters. Hetty is a lively event planner determined to revamp Swallowtail Bay’s annual strawberry festival. Part of the event planning involves her trying to convince be somewhat reclusive John Thornhill to allow the event to be held on his property. What follows is a sweet story with some complications. I loved watching Hetty and John‘s relationship bloom. It was so fun watching them plan the strawberry festival. I wanted to be right there with them, especially when it came to the food tasting. Hetty was such a fun vivacious character her bubbly personality and energy dripped from the pages. John really was her perfect match. The blurb made me think there was going to be more of a love triangle, but I was very grateful there really wasn’t. So grab your beach towel, your sunscreen, settle in on that lounge chair and relax with this book. And don’t forget the strawberries!

The Sunset Sisters by Cecilia Lyra **Book Review** @bookouture

Hello my book friends!

Excited to share with you today this fun beach read with a splash of Mystery. Sun, sand, and secrets!🏖

My Thoughts

Sun, sand, and secrets. Cecilia Lyra has written a fun beach read with a splash of Mystery. Cassie and Julie are half-sisters sharing the same father. The sisters spent the summers of their childhood on the beach with their beloved grandmother. But then something happens to tear these two sisters apart. It is 15 years later and Cassie and Julie have not seen one another since the fateful event. At the reading of their grandmother’s will they find out that in order for them to inherit her lovely Beachhouse they must spend the summer together in the house. The sisters are quick to agree to the terms, but will they be able to heal the wound between them?

This was a heartwarming story with some unseen twists and secrets. I always love reading books about sisters specially because I don’t have one myself, it is a relationship that intrigues me. Cassie and Julie were quite different from one another and I have to admit that I favored Julie for most of the book. Julie was kind and caring almost to the point of her own detriment. Cassie on the other hand was strong, blunct and a bit prickly. I really loved how the story between the sisters unfolded throughout the book, it was perfectly paste. I was seriously so invested in the story, because I cared so much about these characters. I also really love the little fairytale element added in, gave the story even more sparkle.

About the Book

Two sisters. A surprising inheritance. A summer that changes everything.

As children, half-sisters Cassie and Julie were nearly inseparable, bonded through happy, lazy summers playing barefoot in the surf and sleeping out on the porch of their grandmother’s Hamptons beach house. Though from wildly different backgrounds, each magical summer the girls were as close as only best friends, accomplices, sisters can be. But they haven’t spoken in nearly fifteen years—not since the funeral of Cassie’s mother—and now there is only resentment and painful memories between them.

Successful and self-contained, Cassie is shocked to learn the requirements of their Nana’s will—that she and Julie spend one final summer together in the Hamptons house in order to inherit. Cassie agrees reluctantly, she needs an excuse to leave Boston and give the growing rumors about her personal life a chance to die down.

And for Julie, who is discovering too late the cracks in her marriage, it is the chance to repair at least one damaged relationship. But for the two sisters to regain what they had, they will have to finally confront what happened the night Cassie lost her mother. With their Nana’s wisdom guiding the way, could this summer bring painful discoveries, and a new direction, for both sisters?

An emotional and riveting novel full of family drama and dark secrets. Perfect for fans of Elin Hilderbrand, Emily Giffin and Jennifer Weiner.

Just Friends by Holly McCulloch **Book Review** @randomthingstours

Happy Thursday all!

How is your day going? Today I’m excited to share with you this fun friends to lovers romance.💕

My Thoughts

A fun Friends to lovers romance. This was such a sweet story with some exceptionally engaging characters. The book kicks off with Bae at her BFFs wedding on New Year’s Eve. While at the wedding Bae decide she needs to get her life together. She’s stuck in a job she never really wanted and is about to be the last singlton of her friends. Always in the background is her dear and goofy friend Peter offering her comfort and support. BUT Bae knows better than to get involved with a friend.

Loved loved loved Bae. There was so much authenticity about her character. She was likable and relatable, absolutely someone you’d want to be friends with. Peter was such a good guy so kind yet quirky. Definitely the type of guy I would have put in the friend zone when I was younger and then later regret. I was definitely cheering for the two of them the entire book. Bae also had a great support system with her friends and family, and I enjoyed her character growth especially in the workplace. My only tiny complaint with the story is I wish there had been more interaction between Bae and Peter. I loved when they were together, but they spent way too much time trying to avoid one another. A sweet story with a satisfying ending.

About the Book

It’s easy to put someone in the friend zone. But what happens if you change your mind?

Bea isn’t happy. Desperate for a change, she looks to her friends for inspiration. Every single one of them is paired off, perhaps that’s what she needs too.

So, she starts dating again. But everywhere she goes – amid the hilarious and scarring dates – there’s Peter. Good old, oddball Peter, her closest friend from university. He’s always been firmly in the friend zone but something’s happened lately – he seems taller, more handsome and suddenly making him smile is Bea’s favourite thing.

But how can Bea possibly risk their friendship? And how do you even go about taking someone out of the friend zone? What if Bea and Peter were only ever meant to be just friends…
