Rosa Larkin is down on her luck in London, so when she inherits a near-derelict corner shop in a quaint Devon village, her first thought is to sell it for cash and sort out her life. But nothing is straightforward about this legacy.  While the identity of her benefactor remains a mystery, he – or she – has left one important legal proviso: that the shop cannot be sold, only passed on to somebody who really deserves it.

Rosa makes up her mind to give it a go: to put everything she has into getting the shop up and running again in the small seaside community of Cockleberry Bay. But can she do it all on her own? And if not, who will help her succeed – and who among the following will work secretly to see her fail?

There is a handsome rugby player, a sexy plumber, a charlatan reporter and a selection of meddling locals. Add in a hit and run incident and the disappearance of a valuable engraved necklace – and what you get is a journey of self-discovery and unpredictable events.

With surprising and heartfelt results, Rosa, accompanied at all times by her little sausage dog Hot, will slowly unravel the shadowy secrets of the inheritance, and also bring her own, long-hidden heritage into the light.

4.5 Lovely Stars🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

“Love is friendship set on fire…”

This book was an absolute pleasure to read… One of the absolute best parts of being a book blogger/reviewer is the exposure you get to so many amazing authors you wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to… this book is a perfect example of that…. I’ve never read anything by Nicola may, But I can guarantee I will take every opportunity offered to read more books from her…. I like my romance with a touch of humor, a lot of fabulous characters, and a beautiful setting…. this book had all that and the added bonus of some mystery….

Rosa has had a tough life, so when she is offered the opportunity to move to Cockleberry Bay and reopen a corner shop… she thinks this might be a perfect opportunity to get her life straight…. The catch… she can’t sell the shop she needs to give it to somebody who is worthy (when it is time) and also she has no idea who has gifted this to her…. Rosa really had a complete transformation throughout this book, it was so lovely to see… she started out with such thick walls around her, you wondered if there was any way she would be happy in a town where everybody knew everything about you…. and she grew into such a charming person with so many wonderful and Corky friends…. she also has the most adorable dog Hot🐾

There is also romance in this book… but you aren’t quite sure who the love interest is until towards the end…. I had my clear favorite, so I don’t really want to describe them because I probably will give it away…. just know there is not a love triangle, and you really want Rosa to make a certain choice (well at least I did)…. as I mentioned above there is also some mystery in this book… who gave the corner shop to Rosa? Who was involved in the hit and run accident? And what happened to that necklace?

Strongly recommend to fans of Romance with some humor, wonderful quirky characters, and a touch of mystery…

*** thank you so much to Nicola May and Rachel at Rachel‘s Random Resources for a copy of this wonderful book ***

Have a lovely weekend! Berit 💛

I want to go to Blossom Cottage on Sandcastle Bay… I want to pick berries, build a boat, and eat cake…. everything about this book was so magical and sweet….

Tori was such a real and likable character…. I completely related to her struggle…. and so wanted her to find her happily ever after with Aiden…. but how does a relationship build off a conversation that you only want to keep things casual… nobody wants to get hurt… again…. in the land of the heart berry and with the approaching Love festival…perhaps love will find the way… and not only for these two…. Aidan has two brothers…Tori has two friends… there are 11 puppies… and an adorable dancing heart berry named Max…. oh and I cannot forget Aunt Agatha her predictions and the tattoo….

So many magical moments in this lovely town by the sea…. there also were some pretty laugh out loud moments as well…. I really can’t say anything bad about this book…. it was just a nice breath of fresh air…. that made me want to pack my bags and head to Sandcastle Bay….

Absolutely recommend to anyone in the mood for a fun romantic comedy with an amazing setting…

Review

This was a fun and sometimes serious book all about the ups and downs of being a mom…. as a mom of three almost grown children I can honestly say it is the best, most rewarding, and most challenging part of my life…. i’ve never doubted my abilities as a mom…in fact I’m pretty confident that I am pretty darn good at it…. it might be the one thing in my life I am pretty darn sure of…. I have also been a single mom for the past five years… and though there were a few added challenges and struggles it has been pretty easy thanks to an amazing support system and the fact I have pretty darn good kids…. what does this have to do with this book you might ask? It really has everything to do with it, it is the perspective I am going into this book with… I love being a mom, I love my kids, and I Believe as mothers we all need to support one another….*steps off soapbox*

Nancy is a newly single mother struggling to come to terms with the fact that her ex probably isn’t going to step up and be the father that her son Jack deserves…. Jack is autistic and therefore Nancy’s challenges are a bit different than most women in her situation…. Harriet her BFF is also a single mom A confident career woman…. but not so confident when it comes to motherhood she is extremely overwhelmed and feels like such a failure when it comes to her abilities as a mother… and the situation is not helped out by her own mother…..

Nancy and Harriet decide they need to have some fun so they pack up the kids and head on vacation to Ibiza…. but can Harriet stop working while on vacation? And can Nancy come to terms with the fact that her ex cannot be the father that Jack deserves? While on vacation the girls meet some new friends and perhaps even a love interest….

I liked both Nancy and Harriet and I liked the friendship that they shared with one another….. I think this book is probably going to be more appreciated by mothers… I think you will find the situations, challenges, and the judgments more relatable if you have gone through them yourself…. this was a fun read, with some laugh out loud moments, and also some moments that made you think… what would I do in that situation?

Absolutely recommend as a fun fluffy beach read especially if you are in Ibiza…

An utterly gorgeous, heart-warming romance, full of love and laughter. Perfect for fans of Debbie Johnson and Jenny Colgan.

Review

This was a complicated secret filled book disguised as a sweet fluffy read…. and I mean this in the best way possible… this book started and I thought oh lovely setting, lovely love story, perfect relationship, oh so sweet, and there’s even tea and scones…. then a treasure was uncovered, secrets were revealed, and things went sideways….. and I have to give it to the author all this going on and there still was that lovely sweet feeling to this book that made you smile despite the fact that you probably shouldn’t be….

Harper owns the perfect farmhouse…. where she runs the perfect tea shop…. she also has the perfect stable fiancé with those perfect Popeye biceps…. but as we all know even in romance books things aren’t always as they seem…. there were a few little twists in this book and I thought there was going to be a love triangle for a hot minute…. all I will say is people aren’t always who they seem to be and that was absolutely true in this book….

Harper was a fantastic character… a girl I would love to go out to lunch with (this is always my measuring stick when it comes to book characters would I want to go out to lunch with them or not, and I love to go out to lunch)…. how can you not adore a girl who has a GOAT psychiatrist? Yes that is not a typo a GOAT…. a big shout out to Terrence! Also really loved her BFF Pip…. enjoyed the towns people and I also liked another character very much, but that is kind of a spoiler so I will leave it at that….

Absolutely recommend to fans of romance, fabulous characters, and an amazing setting….

The Rosie Project #flashbackfriday

The Rosie Project

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

🌟🌟🌟🌟 Fun filled stars

Blurb

An international sensation, this hilarious, feel-good novel is narrated by an oddly charming and socially challenged genetics professor on an unusual quest: to find out if he is capable of true love.

Don Tillman, professor of genetics, has never been on a second date. He is a man who can count all his friends on the fingers of one hand, whose lifelong difficulty with social rituals has convinced him that he is simply not wired for romance. So when an acquaintance informs him that he would make a “wonderful” husband, his first reaction is shock. Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and he embarks upon The Wife Project. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which he approaches all things, Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical—most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver.

Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent—and on a quest of her own. She is looking for her biological father, a search that a certain DNA expert might be able to help her with. Don’s Wife Project takes a back burner to the Father Project and an unlikely relationship blooms, forcing the scientifically minded geneticist to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie—and the realization that love is not always what looks good on paper.

The Rosie Project is a moving and hilarious novel for anyone who has ever tenaciously gone after life or love in the face of overwhelming challenges.

Review

Don is different to everyone else and he knows it!

He has routines, down to the second for EVERYTHING including what he is having for dinner that night (Lobster on Tuesday, kept in the bath until he kills it!)

He decides that it’s high time that he gets himself a partner and so starts “The Wife Project”

A questionnaire is prepared for all candidates to complete and it is passed out in hilarious fashion on speed dating nights, online dating sites and randomly wherever he sees fit.

The questionnaire is precise …..I mean really precise, Height, Weight, BMI (to make sure that the candidate can complete mundane maths problems), do you smoke? Drink? How often? Etc. etc. etc. …. Some of the questions are ridiculous, but Don doesn’t see this as he is wired differently, although it isn’t actually stated, Don is clearly on the Autism scale, probably Asperger, ironically what he is studying!!

Then a curve ball is thrown in……..Rosie!

Rosie is the complete opposite of what Don “thinks” he wants, she smokes, drinks, swears like a sailor and has bright red hair.

This book was very funny and I enjoyed it very much, it made me laugh out loud quite a few times reading the antics that they get up to, and Dons general weirdness.

Enjoy,

Vicci

Surprise Me – Coming Soon

Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella

4.5 laugh out loud stars 😂 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

Blurb

After being together for ten years, Sylvie and Dan have all the trimmings of a happy life and marriage; they have a comfortable home, fulfilling jobs, beautiful twin girls, and communicate so seamlessly, they finish each other’s sentences. However, a trip to the doctor projects they will live another 68 years together and panic sets in. They never expected “until death do us part” to mean seven decades.

In the name of marriage survival, they quickly concoct a plan to keep their relationship fresh and exciting: they will create little surprises for each other so that their (extended) years together will never become boring. But in their pursuit to execute Project Surprise Me, mishaps arise and secrets are uncovered that start to threaten the very foundation of their unshakable bond. When a scandal from the past is revealed that question some important untold truths, they begin to wonder if they ever really knew each other after all.

Review

Sophie Kinsella is one of my absolute favorite authors…. i’ve read every book in the Shopaholic Series and absolutely adored Becky throughout…. what I love so much about her books are her fabulous female MC’s and Sylvie was no exception…. strong, relatable, fun, self-deprecating, and a little out of touch with reality…. i’ve read so many twisty thrillers as of late and this was just the perfect pallet cleanser!

After Sylvie and Dan are told by their doctor that they will probably live to be 100…. they both start to panic, how can we keep our marriage fresh and fabulous for another 68 years? Sylvie and Dan decide to try to “surprise“ each other in order to keep their marriage on track…. soMe of Sylvie and her BFF Tilda‘s antics in trying to come up with “surprises“ left me laughing so hard I had tears coming down my face(I think my kids thought I had gone mad)…..

Along with fabulous female main characters and tear inducing laughter….Miss Kinsella always has wonderful female relationships and almost too good to be true men in her books….Tilda was a truly fabulous BFF and Dan really had the patience of a saint….

The only “surprising“ part of this book is it had a bit of a more serious tone to it in parts… Sylvie, relationship with her mother, and her deceased father took on a very serious tone…. and admittedly I found it a little disturbing that Silvie still called her parents mommy and daddy…. in the end I thought this part of the book was done well and tied all the other pieces in the book together….

Absolutely recommend for a fun, fluffy, laugh out read… with some depth….
