The Edge of Summer cover

My Thoughts

5 BIG BEAUTIFUL BUTTON FILLED STARS!🪡

5 reasons you should read this book.

1️⃣ Viola Shipman is a brilliant storyteller.

2️⃣ this is a beautiful yet heartbreaking story about the love of a mother, and a daughter beginning to understand.

3️⃣ Sutton is a likable relatable character. Her growth throughout the story was wonderful to see.

4️⃣ buttons! You will never learn so much about buttons and you will never have realized that you wanted to know all there is to know. I will honestly never look at a button the same way again.

5️⃣ The setting of Lake Michigan scream summer and the romance is slow and sweet.

2 reasons you should listen to this book.

🎧 Nancy Peterson did an amazing job bringing Viola Shipman‘s storytelling to life.

🎧 Nancy also set the perfect tone and pacing for this beautiful story.

It never fails to amaze me that Viola Shipman is a pen name for a male author. He really has such a firm grasp on the female psyche. I also really appreciated how the subject of Covid and the pandemic was handled and addressed in this book. I completely empathize with Sutton as she tries to navigate her “new normal“. The role that buttons played in the story was so unique, well done and interesting. This book seriously made me want to start sewing, something that has never happened before. Tug The love interest in the story is fabulous, you’ve got to love a man that loves baseball and fabric. Another beautiful story from this exceptional author set against the backdrop of Lake Michigan. A definite can’t miss summer read.

*** Big thank you to Grayden House & Harper Audio for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

About the Book

Bestselling author Viola Shipman delights with this captivating summertime escape set along the sparkling shores of Lake Michigan, where a woman searches for clues to her secretive mother’s past

Devastated by the sudden death of her mother—a quiet, loving and intensely private Southern seamstress called Miss Mabel, who overflowed with pearls of Ozarks wisdom but never spoke of her own family—Sutton Douglas makes the impulsive decision to pack up and head north to the Michigan resort town where she believes she’ll find answers to the lifelong questions she’s had about not only her mother’s past but also her own place in the world.

Recalling Miss Mabel’s sewing notions that were her childhood toys, Sutton buys a collection of buttons at an estate sale from Bonnie Lyons, the imposing matriarch of the lakeside community. Propelled by a handful of trinkets left behind by her mother and glimpses into the history of the magical lakeshore town, Sutton becomes tantalized by the possibility that Bonnie is the grandmother she never knew. But is she? As Sutton cautiously befriends Bonnie and is taken into her confidence, she begins to uncover the secrets about her family that Miss Mabel so carefully hid, and about the role that Sutton herself unwittingly played in it all.

Have a fantastic day filled with fabulous books! XO Berit

The Christmas Caroline by Camilla Isley **Book Review**

Happy Wednesday evening friends!

Hope you had an awesome day! So excited that it is now officially Christmas reading season! Loved the charm and the whimsy in this lovely festive story!🎄

A Christmas Caroline

A modern-day retelling of A Christmas Carol…

Caroline is a cynic career woman living the high life in Manhattan where love and relationships are but a distant memory of the past.

But after a freak accident on Christmas Eve, Caroline receives a visit from a cheeky spirit of Christmas Past, Present, Yet to Come, and—most importantly—Christmas That Could Have Been. When she wakes up on Christmas Day suddenly married with three kids and living two doors down from her parents in New Jersey, Caroline has a chance to experience the life she would’ve had if she’d made a different choice.

Will small-town life as a mother and a wife make her rediscover what’s really important in life?

My Thoughts

A fun festive modern retelling of A Christmas Carol. Caroline is a workaholic more focused on finances then festivities. After a spill on the ice while dipping early from her families Christmas Eve. Caroline finds herself not only facing Christmas past, present, and future, but also Christmases that could have been. Caroline now finds herself married to the one that got away, living in suburbia and the mother of three. So much fun! Loved watching Caroline navigate motherhood. I can’t even imagine waking up and finding yourself with three kids one of them being an infant. I thought this was such a fabulous twist on a classic. I loved watching Caroline grow throughout the book. We all have those choices in our lives that we wonder about. How would things have gone had I made a different choice? Another festive fantastic story from Camilla Isley.

Twelve Days to Save Christmas by Elizabeth Neep **Book Review**

Happy Thursday all!

Hope life has been treating you well! Cannot believe it is so close to Christmas! This was such a sweet story 10/10 recommend! 🎄

My Thoughts

This was such a fun festive read! Poppies boyfriend of five years George dumps her right before Christmas. Poppy is devastated, who is she without George? Determined to show George that she is still the upbeat independent girl he fell in love with Poppy makes a 12 day plan to get him back. Loved Poppy she was so sparkly and authentic. Quite honestly I think George did Poppy a huge favor by breaking up with her. He and his friends seem so superficial compared to poppies authenticity. The break up gave Poppy an opportunity to really find herself. She joined a choir, volunteered at the community center, and maybe met a man more suited to her. This book would make a perfect hallmark Christmas movie, it gave me all the festive feels. Another amazing story by Elizabeth Neep.

About the Book

On the first day of Christmas, my true love… dumped me.

Poppy loves Christmas and always goes all out to make this magical time of the year extra special for her boyfriend George. But George is strangely not in the Yuletide spirit this year. As Poppy wrestles him into her Christmas jumper built for two for a holiday snapshot, she finds out why.

He’s leaving her. With only twelve days to spend together until Christmas.

Poppy is heartbroken. George is the love of her life, and what would Christmas be without kisses under the mistletoe, his mum’s delicious homemade gingerbread or their super-competitive games of Pictionary?

She’s determined to win George back. So, anxious to prove to him she can be spontaneous, she signs up as a Christmas volunteer at the local community centre. What she doesn’t know is that there’s a festive surprise coming her way…

As Poppy throws herself into her new role – mulling vats of hot cider and hanging fairy lights off everything within reach – she discovers an inner strength she never knew she had. And there’s also Theo. Her new boss. Grumpy and opinionated, he’s everything she doesn’t want.

But as the snow starts to fall, she begins to notice other things about him – like his twinkling green eyes, how he makes her laugh, and how much he cares about the people he’s trying to help.

As the twelfth day approaches, Poppy might be about to discover that the most perfect Christmas might be the one that she didn’t plan at all…

Fans of One Day in December, Beth O’Leary and Mhairi McFarlane will be completely enchanted by this witty and warm festive story about friendship, love and finding yourself.

Fool Me Twice At Christmas by Camilla Isley **Book Review**

Happy Sunday all!

I am so excited it is the beginning of holiday reading season! 84 days until Christmas have you done any shopping yet? I haven’t even thought about it, but yikes that’s close!✨

Fool Me Twice at Christmas 🎄

Fool Me Twice at Christmas

There are two types of relationships: fake and real.

Chuck and Kate’s used to be real, oh-so-real. But after she broke his heart four months ago, leaving him, it became all just pretense for the sake of their entwined families.

With parents who are best friends and business partners, it’s not easy for Chuck and Kate to announce they’ve split up. But with the holidays looming over them, they can no longer keep pretending.

They head home for Christmas, determined to tell the truth—and end up accidentally engaged instead. The more they try to pull apart, the more the Universe seems to push them back together, shortening the road to the altar. And when just-for-show kisses stir up forgotten feelings, things get even more complicated.

Now, with the midnight hour approaching, will Chuck and Kate’s relationship turn out to be fake or real?

My Thoughts

This was the perfect book to kick off my Christmas reading season with! A combo of two of my favorite tropes the fake relationship and a second chance romance. Kate and Chuck broke up four months ago but they have decided not to share this with their family until Christmas. However when they are spending Christmas with their families it never seems to be the right time and then it gets even messier. The story is told from the alternating perspectives of both Chuck and Kate and I thought this was perfect I loved getting into the head of both of these characters and knowing where they were coming from. Both of their parents were a bit overly invested in their relationship and very pushy. I could understand why Kate and Chuck were hesitant to share the news with their parents that the relationship was over. I consider this book Christmas light. The Christmas vibe is in the background but it is not a huge part of the story the main focus is on the relationship between Kate and Chuck. A super sweet romcom that put a huge smile on my face and put me in a festive mood!

Will They Won’t They by Portia MacIntosh **Book Review**

Hello Book Friends!

Excited to share with you today another fabulous book from Portia MacIntosh! She is a definite auto read author for me!

Will They, Won’t They?

When life goes off track sometimes the only thing you can do is go back to where it all began…

Emmy Palmer is the star of Bragadon Forest, the biggest fantasy series on TV; adored by the public, living the life of glamour and luxury in London.

But when scandal strikes, Emmy must escape the city and return to her seaside hometown to lie low and wait for the storm to pass.

Emmy’s agent decides it would be a good look to star in the community Christmas pantomime, but who else could be playing her leading man but her ex-boyfriend who she may or may not have ditched to move to London a decade ago…

As the show approaches, love and friendships blossom and the real question is – Will they? Won’t they?

My Thoughts

Another fun romcom from Portia MacIntosh! Emmy has been killed off the popular fantasy show she was a lead on and now she has got herself caught up in a scandal. Needing to flee London and stat Emmy returns home to her small town. When she returns home she finds out her beloved grandfather has passed away and decides she’s going to purchase and renovate his home. This was just a fun uplifting story filled with so much fun banter and countless crazy antics. Emmy definitely has a complicated and colorful family! I also loved her friends and of course the Christmas production. The Romance was a definite “will they wont they“. Another fabulous book from one of my favorite authors!

Her Deadly Touch by Lisa Regan **Book Review**

Hello Book Friends!

Hope life is treating you well! Super excited to share my review for the latest book in one of my favorite series!🔎

My Thoughts

Another spectacular installment in the Josie Quinn series! Josie is still dealing with grief and guilt from the loss of her beloved grandmother in the previous book. The Grief and guilt are compounded by the fact that her first case back involves a murder. Two years ago there was a Dudley school bus crash that Killed six students and sent the bus driver to jail. Now it appears as though somebody is targeting the parents of these children. Why is somebody bringing even more grief into these family’s lives, what could the possible motivation be? Once again Josie and team are on the case. Josie was definitely struggling and it was nice to see everyone around her prop her up especially Noah.As in all Josie Quinn books I loved donning my detective hat and trying to puzzle the mystery together. This series is 12 books strong and keeps bedding better, can’t wait to see what’s next!

*** Big thank you to Bookouture for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

About the Book

The woman is kneeling at a gravestone, her hair blowing in the breeze, a bunch of wilting yellow daffodils on the grass beside her. Her eyes are fixed on the ground and her mouth is parted in a silent prayer. But the wax dripping from her cold blue lips means it’s already too late to save her…

On her first day back with the Denton PD after a major trauma, Detective Josie Quinn is on the hunt for a missing woman, Krystal Duncan, the mother of one of five children killed in a devastating school bus crash. Hours later, Josie finds Krystal’s body beside her daughter’s grave, her lips sealed together forever with wax.

Forensics match the wax to one of the candles lit in memory of the sweet little souls who died, giving Josie her first lead to a support group made up of the parents who lost children in the crash. Painstakingly dissecting the lives of these grieving couples, it’s clear to Josie that each of them is hiding something about the day of the accident—but whose secret is worth killing for?

The case takes an agonizing turn when the body of another young mother is found near the site of the bus crash. Someone connected to the accident is out for revenge. As the members of the support group are picked off one by one, every second counts for Josie to save the lives of these loving parents who have already suffered the loss of those they treasured most…

An absolutely gripping and totally unputdownable crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Be warned, this book will keep you up all night! Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

Greece Actually by Sue Roberts **Book Review**

Happy Friday!

If you’re looking for a fun escape of a book to read this weekend then look no further than this delightful tale!☀️

My Thoughts

Another fun escape of a book from Sue Roberts! Becky has just escaped an abusive relationship, completely uprooted her life and started over. When her uncle reaches out and asks her to housesit his Villa in Greece she jumps at the chance. Now can I just say I would love to have an uncle or any relative for that matter that would pay for me to housesit their villa on a Greek island. Anyways I digress… as in all of Sue Roberts books she really brought the essence of Greece to life in the pages of this book. The sun, the sand, the food. Part of the story Becky spends with her two BFFs Paige and Abby. Glorious days lounging on the beach, nights of delicious dining, and even an Abba boat cruise that sounded like a blast. Becky also meets A handsome local Kyros, Who just might convince her to prolong her stay. Becky was a sweet relatable character who I was definitely rooting for. Loved this gorgeous setting and all the outings with her girls. My only teeny tiny complaint is the romance I wish it was perhaps a little more developed. This was a perfect getaway for those of us that probably won’t be getting a tropical vacation this summer.

*** Big thank you to Bookouture for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

About the Book

Take one sea-view villa, add two dates with a Greek God, a few glasses of wine, a dash of accidental nudity, and a heavy dose of sunshine. Recipe for a perfect getaway… or an absolute disaster?

Small, shy, safe. That’s how Becky lives ever since her last romantic calamity landed her in hospital. Her comfort zone is as confining as her tiny bank balance, and fiercely guarded by her totally over-the-top mum. But the news that her ex is back sniffing round is the final straw. In a very un-Becky move, she packs her bags for the Greek island of Skiathos. Maybe the setting of her favourite ABBA movie will be just the break from reality Becky needs…

Stepping aboard the Mamma Mia! boat tour, Becky leaves her fear in the port as she sings… out loud… in public, and cries Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! to everything the Greek life has to offer. She befriends locals young, old, and absolutely perfect (hello, sizzling hot restaurant-owner Kyros!), dines on freshly baked bread drizzled in golden olive oil on a starlit date, and walks barefoot along silky sandy beaches.

When Kyros asks her to stay longer, Becky is stunned. Could she really create a new life for herself here, and trust her heart with this smooth-talking charmer? But just as she’s thinking about putting down roots, her troublesome ex makes a dramatic return, begging for her back. Will she go back to playing it safe, or will she take a chance on Greece and embrace her true dancing queen?

An absolutely laugh-out-loud summer rom-com guaranteed to give you THAT holiday feeling! Perfect for fans of Carole Matthews, Jenny Colgan and Sophie Kinsella.

Author Bio:

Sue Roberts lives in Lancashire with her long term partner Derek and has had a lifelong love of writing, encouraged by winning a school writing competition at the age of 11.

She always assumed that ‘one day’ she would write a book, always having a busy household and a job, the idea remained firmly on the back burner but never forgotten.

The inspiration for her first novel came to her on a holiday to a Greek village. Her daughters had left home and suddenly the time had come to write that book!

When her good-for-nothing boyfriend cheats on her and steals her life savings, she finally dumps him and rents out her spare room as an Airbnb. Gossip flies around the town as Kara welcomes a series of foreign guests to her flat overlooking the estuary.

My Thoughts

The perfect start to another delightful series from Nicola May! Kara is a florist who has returned home to her small town after university. After she’s been done dirty by her partner she resorts to renting out a room in her apartment as an Airbnb. This seems to create a stir in this small town. Kara is at the end of her rope until she receives a mysterious letter that ultimately sends her on a dream trip around the world. Kara was a sympathetic and likable character who I loved getting to know throughout this book. I really loved the small-town vibe of Fairy Lane, not going to lie I was a little sad at first when Kara started on her travels. However I soon got caught up in the fun and mystery of the trip. The thought and planning that went into this trip was pretty amazing. I also thought it was extremely brave of Kara to embark on this trip not having any idea where she was going, where she was staying, what she was doing. I am not certain I would be as trusting as she was? There was so much packed in this lovely gem of a book that made me want to pack my bags and take a trip around the globe. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
