Dead Perfect by Noelle Holten **Book Review** @botbspublicity @onemorechapter @nholten40

happy hump day!

well this will be my last post of the year! I am taking a little bit of a break until January 5. I know Christmas is looking a little different for all of us this year but I hold out hope that next Christmas will be the best one ever!❤️💚

My Thoughts

A dark and creepy tale. This is the third book in Noelle Holten’s DC Maggie Jameson series; and I’d have to say the BEST YET! I also have to say Noelle you’re starting to scare me a little, what’s going on in that brain of yours? The book picks up right where the last book ended. A dead body is discovered that bares an uncanny resemblance to one of Maggie‘s friends. relieved to find out it was not her friend, but concerned that this is no coincidence Maggie puts her all into the case. but as the bodies start falling it looks as though the killer is escalating. What is his end game and is Kate the true prize. A twisted and disturbing Game of cat and mouse. I could not figure out what the killer was playing at, I just knew he was one screwed up person. Maggie showed a little more emotion in this book. She generally keeps others and the reader at arms distance but it was nice to see a little more about her in this book. it was also nice to see some diversity with Maggie coming to terms with her sexuality. I am not certain they would’ve kept Maggie on this case, I thought it was a bit of a conflict of interest, but hey it’s fiction. The investigation was intriguing and even though I read quite a few reviews that said the culprit was revealed early I truly had no idea who it was. And more than that I was very surprised by his motivation, not sure I’ve ever seen things play out like this before. another electric installment in this compelling series.

In Pursuit of Happiness by Freya Kennedy **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy happy Sunday!

This was such a sweet comforting story! The perfect little afternoon escape!😁

In Pursuit of Happiness

‘A lovely escape that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Just what’s needed at the moment’ No1 bestselling author Jane Fallon

The world is waiting…but just outside of your comfort zone.

Jo Campbell is perfectly content in a perfectly structured life.
Nothing ever changes in Jo’s life, and she likes it that way.
Or at least, she tells herself she does.
Most of the time, she manages to push down the tiny voice that tells her to chase her dream and maybe, just maybe, open her battered and bruised heart up to love.
But to chase her dreams she needs to take chances that are way out of her comfort zone and learn to not put other people’s happiness above her own.
Most of all she has to learn to trust her heart, which may just be the biggest challenge of all.

My Thoughts

Charming and hopeful. Freya Kennedy has written a heartwarming story brimming with family, friendship, dreams, and a dog. The story follows up Freya‘s last book Libby Quinn, however it can most definitely be red as a standalone. Jo is stuck in a bit of a rutt. She is happy and safe, but knows she’s not living her best life. Jo has always dreamed of being an author, but doubts her talent. She wants to find love, but is afraid of opening up. then two things happen that shake Jo’s life up. Harry (a beloved village shop owner)‘s grandson Lorcan comes to town. Additionally Libby sends a copy of Jo’s book to a famous author. Will Jo be able to take a chance and embrace change?

This was such a sweet story filled with such lovely characters. I loved revisiting this delightful village with all its quaintness and charm. Jo is a great character and I really liked getting to know her better and wanted her to realize her dreams. it was nice to get reacquainted with characters from the previous book as well as meet new ones. The romance was a true slow burn, and I did like Lorcan as the love interest (even though I’m not sure about his name?). A definite comfort read… the perfect escape.

The House Mate by Nina Manning **Audiobook Review** @rararesources

happy Sunday all!

Do you like an unreliable narrator? Then do I have the book for you! Reggie certainly kept me on my toes!🧹

The House Mate

Narrator:  Helen Keeley

The perfect life? …Or the perfect lie?

When Regi moves into her new house share, she’s ready for a clean slate. A new home. A new routine. A new identity…

Desperate to escape the shadow of her past that follows her everywhere she goes, Regi finds the ideal distraction in the perfect lives of others on social media.

But as innocent scrolling turns into an unhealthy obsession, Regi will soon learn that seeking perfection comes at a price…

A gripping psychological suspense from the international bestselling author of The Daughter In Law. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, K L Slater and Jackie Kabler.

My Thoughts

yikes! Spending 8 1/2 hours in the mind of Reggie was quite interesting. she truly was the ultimate unreliable narrator. The story starts with 30 something Nina living with 3 20 somethings in a shared house. Reggie has a severe case of OCD, suffers from social anxiety and is seriously frightened buy things in her past. The story bounces back-and-forth between now and then. we see Reggie living in an abusive relationship when she is young. we see Reggie fretting about the safety of the child next-door, becoming obsessed with a cleaning lady on Instagram, and trying to get her life together in the present. there really was a lot going on in this book – tons of misdirection, Miss information, and misunderstanding. I had absolutely no idea where the story was going and I have to admit I was completely caught off guard by the ending. reggie was a sympathetic and intriguing character. however, I have no idea if I liked the girl or not? There was just something about her that was a little off-putting, kept me at arms distance. I thought the dynamics between her and her housemates were interesting, I often wondered how I would react if Reggie was my roommate? Helen Keeley narrated the audiobook and I have to say I love her accent. She did a really good job with all the voices in the story and definitely added to my overall enjoyment of the book. A unique twist on the thriller!

❄️ A Kiss in the Snow by Rosie Green **Book Review** @rararesources

happy weekend!

can you believe it is less than two weeks until Christmas? This was such a festive little holiday treat!❄️

A Kiss in the Snow, Little Duck Pond Café

After a cruel twist of fate sends her hurtling into a black hole of despair, Carrie is absolutely dreading the festive season – especially with sister, Krystle, being even more demanding of her time and energy than usual. But then friend Maddy offers Carrie a lifeline: the chance to get away from it all in a holiday cottage in the gorgeous little village of Silverbells. Deciding that a few weeks of tranquillity – reading, baking and going for long walks in the countryside – might just restore her mood, Carrie is quick to take up the offer. But on arriving, it very soon becomes clear that this break is going to be anything but peaceful!

An unwelcome houseguest proves unsettling enough – especially one who whistles loudly first thing in the morning and is far too cheerful for his own good – but finding herself drawn into the spooky mystery of her missing neighbour means there really isn’t much time for personal reflection. And then love comes knocking, and Carrie is forced to decide exactly where her heart lies.

Will this festive season be the disaster Carrie predicted? Or will Santa be good to her and deliver her heart’s desire? One thing’s for sure – this will be a Christmas Carrie will never, ever forget…

My Thoughts

A joyful holiday treat! This is the 13th book in Rosie Green’s delightful Little Duck Pond Cafe series. even though this is the 13th book it can absolutely be read as a standalone, a good place to jump in. Carrie is tired of being overshadowed by her twin sister Crystal. finding out her crush Adam is crushing on Crystal is the straw that breaks the camels back and Carrie needs a little getaway. so Carrie packs up her car and heads to the nearby village of Silver Bell for a quiet retreat. BUT soon she finds out that her retreat might not be so quiet, seems as though there was some miscommunication and she will be sharing the charming Snowdrop cottage with a handsome stranger. not to mention the unusual goings on at the cottage next-door. this was such a sweet story and I really loved getting to know Carrie better, she’s made some brief appearances in previous books. I didn’t even mind that we didn’t spend any time with the LDP ladies, I was just so enchanted by this new town and its colorful residence. Carrie really seemed to bloom out of the shadow of her sister and I really loved the direction the story took. A delightful story filled with romance, mystery, friendship, and holiday cheer.

Author Bio –

Rosie has been scribbling stories ever since she was little.

Back then, they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by ‘the baddies’.

Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all – unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Her series of novellas is centred around life in a village cafe. The latest, ‘Lucy’s Great Escape’, is out now.

Rosie will be revisiting the Little Duck Pond Café with a beautiful story of love and friendship at Christmas time, entitled A Kiss in the Snow, out in October 2020.

❄️ Mistletoe and the Mouse by Elsa Simonetti **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Saturday all!

A festive story filled with tons of Disney magic!🪄

Mistletoe and the Mouse

Can a magical Christmas melt a frozen heart?

Join Belle and James as they visit Mickey Mouse for a sparkling holiday season at Disneyland Paris.

Belle has been numb since her mother died, and she can’t face Christmas at home without her. Instead she books a surprise holiday to her “happy place” – the Magic Kingdom. But her boyfriend James has problems of his own. He doesn’t “do Disney” and what will his mother think of him missing their family Christmas to go to Disneyland with Belle?

A festive romance with a sprinkling of Pixie Dust.

My Thoughts

A magical festive tale. A Little gem brimming with Hope, heart, and Disney cheer. Belle has planned a surprise trip to Disney Paris over Christmas and her partner James is less than thrilled. He’d much rather spend the holidays with his family watching rugby. but James loves Belle and realizes that this trip is important to her for so many reasons. Not only does she have a love of all things Disney it also holds a sentimental place in her heart. will James be enchanted by the happiest place on earth?

Growing up in Southern California I probably have been to Disneyland at least once a year for most of my life. there really is something so magical about the theme park that is even enhanced more at Christmas time. When my kids were younger we had annual passes and were able to just spend a couple hours there to see it snow or watch the Christmas tree lighting. I thought the vivid descriptions in this book really brought the park to life and even though I’ve never been to Disney Paris there appeared to be a lot of similarities to Disneyland. The story was Suite and more emotional than I was anticipating. Belle was a lovely character hoo really wore her heart on her sleeve. James was a good guy he really was a good sport about Disney and really came to appreciate the magic.

The Villa of Dreams by Lucy Coleman **Book Review** @rararesources

TGIF!

This book was such a wonderful escape! So nice that we still are able to travel through the pages of books, even though we’re not supposed to leave the house. 😷

The Villa of Dreams

‘Beautifully written, comforting and utterly uplifting, Lucy Coleman’s stories are the perfect tonic when life is a little grey.’ Holly Martin

Seren Maddison left behind a rainy Britain to follow her dreams and live and work in Lisbon. The vibrancy, the beautiful scenery and the sunshine, made her fall in love and she knew, instantly, that it would be her forever home.

International artist Reid Henderson has homes in Lisbon and London. Following his painful divorce, his dream is to turn his luxurious home into an art school and gallery.

When Seren and Reid first meet there is an instant attraction, but they are both people who have been hurt, and each have dreams that are so far apart, they aren’t even on the same page.

Can they enjoy one summer of happiness together, as life bestows a gift of memories to cherish for the rest of their lives? Or is their destiny to chart a path into the future, in a home where dreams can come true?

Seren and Reid may be about to discover that love is as much about what you are prepared to give up, as what you are prepared to keep hold of.

Let Lucy Coleman transport you away to sun-drenched Portugal where true love really can conquer all, and home is where the heart is. Perfect for all fans of Trisha Ashley, Holly Martin and Sue Moorcroft.

My Thoughts

A lovely little escape! Lucy Coleman swept me away to Lisbon Portugal with her vivid storytelling. Seren is tired of working for her father and is in need of a change. So she packs up and relocate to Portugal from England. she begins working as a event planner for an art gallery in charge of an ambitious project involving three vastly different artists. One of the artist Reid catches Seren’s I, but it’s complicated. Lucy’s stories always have such an incredible sense of place. her passion and research of Portugal really shown through on the pages of this book. Seren completely embraced her new country and culture. I truly felt that was the best part of this book. Seren Foley immersing herself in this new culture and really trying to completely assimilate. The art was also extremely interesting especially Seren’s own personal art. I also always love reading books that include event planning, I never understand this because I’m not a big event planner? But apparently I really love reading books about people planning things, go figure. The romance was slow burning and very understated. I really liked both Seren and Reid and wanted them to find their happily ever after, but for me it was not the driving force in the story. A nice little getaway to Portugal from the comfort of my couch.

The Spark by Jules Wake **Book Review** @rararesources @onemorechapter

happy Friday all!

hope life is treating you well! This was such a great book a little different look at romance.🎇

The Spark

Jess is falling for Sam.

Sam is falling for Jess.

But it seems life will do whatever it takes to make them fall apart.

When Jess and Sam lock eyes at a party, a spark ignites. The spark. But love at first sight isn’t like the movies, especially when Sam’s ex, Victoria, is determined to make their honeymoon period a living hell.

Is love at first sight enough?

My Thoughts

Love is complicated! Jess meets Sam and there is an instant SPARK. The problem is Sam has a girlfriend victoria. But after Jess and Sam’s paths cross a couple more times Sam realizes he cannot get Jess out of his mind and ends his four year relationship with victoria. Jess and Sam start dating, but victoria is not having it. Can love at first sight be true? And can true love truly conquer all?

This was such a great book but I had so many mixed thoughts. Jess and Sam really were perfectly suited for one another and I love them together. At first I felt bad for victoria, I mean no one likes their heart being broken. But then the girl had no shame and was downright evil when it came to Jess. having been both the new girlfriend and ex-girlfriend this book brought back a lot of memories, good and bad. I do have to say though Sam needed to stand up for Jess more and Sam’s mom needed to stop overstepping. there were several awkward moments in this book where I felt so bad for Jess. this was a well told thought provoking Romance that really touched on how all aspects of our lives -our family our jobs are friends- lend to how we are in relationships.

❄️ Christmas in Cockleberry Bay by Nicola May **Book Review** @rararesources

happy weekend booklovers!

Cannot believe we are so close to Christmas! Are you done with your Christmas shopping? I think I only have a couple more things to get.

#CICB

Christmas in Cockleberry Bay

Meet old and new characters in the Bay for Christmas fun and frolics.

With both the Corner Shop and Cockleberry Café in safe hands, Rosa turns her attention to Ned’s Gift, the charity set up in memory of the great-grandfather whose legacy turned her life around.

Over at the Ship Hotel, Lucas has his work cut out with his devious new girlfriend and the mystery poisoning of an anonymous hotel inspector. Will the hotel still get its 3-star Seaside Rosette?

Will Mary find true love at last? Can Titch cope with the demands of the shop and being heavily pregnant. And can Rosa, with a baby of her own, pull off the Cockleberry Bay Charity Christmas Concert in time?

Christmas in Cockleberry Bay is a festive delight for fans of Rosa and her cheeky mini dachshund Hot, delivering a feast of unpredictable events and surprises.

My Thoughts

A festive heartwarming small town Christmas read. I was so delighted to be back in Cockleberry Bay with these wonderful characters. Rosa sure has grown as a person throughout the story and now she is a mom. And of course motherhood comes with a new set of problems, especially because Josh is working in the US at the moment. Rosa is stretched to her limits with baby, job and Hot the dog. Titch is there to lend support but she is about to have a second baby of her own. In addition there are questionable goings-on at Luke’s New hotel/restaurant. An entertaining story set against the backdrop of the run up to Christmas in this small town. Reading this was like coming home and spending time with good friends. just like the previous books in the series the story was full of so much charm and whimsy. I love the relationships between all these characters and it was lots of fun watching these characters navigate the new chapters in their lives. I am hopeful that this is not my last trip to Cockleberry Bay.

❄️ Christmas at the Little Waffle Shack by Helen J Rolfe **Book Review** @rararesources

happy Sunday all!

what did you have for breakfast this morning? Waffles by any chance?🧇

Christmas at the Little Waffle Shack

Heritage Cove is in full swing for the festive season and as the temperature dips, who will be lucky in love this Christmas?

It’s December in Heritage Cove and along with the village Christmas tree, frosty mornings and the promise of the most wonderful time of the year, the new waffle shack is about to open. And its owner isn’t a stranger to the Cove, because after all this time, Daniel is back to make amends with his brother Harvey – as well as a few other locals he might have offended along the way.

Fairly new to the village, local blacksmith Lucy has kept up the pretence of being with her ex for the sake of his gran but she’s fed up with all the lies. Determined to come clean and live the life she wants to live, she’s devastated to find that her attraction to Daniel is tainted by the fact he’s hiding a few things of his own. And his secrets are ones she isn’t sure she’ll ever be able to get past.

Heritage Cove is full of friendship and community; it’s a welcoming place people visit and never want to leave. But will it work its magic for Daniel and Lucy?

A festive read packed with Christmas romance, love and second chances, this is Book 2 in a series of standalone novels set in Heritage Cove, the little village by the sea…

My Thoughts

A scrumptious and sweet festive delight. this is the second book in this charming series set in Heritage Cove, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone. Lucy was new to town in the previous book. She now has taken over the town blacksmith business primarily crafting bespoke items. Daniel is the younger brother of Harvey from the previous book and has just returned to town. However not everyone is thrilled with his return especially brother Harvey. Daniel is determined to prove that people change and is hoping to make a success of his new Waffle Shack venture. when Lucy and Danny meet there are definite sparks and not just from the welding iron. will these two find true love or will there pass come back to bite them?

Warning do not read this on an empty stomach! All these waffle and ice cream and topping combos sounded so tremendously delicious. My poor Eggo toaster waffles may never look the same. both Lucy and Danny were very likable characters and I really loved them together. Lucy had this crazy arrangement with her ex-husband that really kept her tangled up in the past. Dani had made many mistakes in his past and was searching for forgiveness, most of all from himself. The story takes place over the days running up to Christmas and that really added comfort and joy to the story. Now I seriously want to bundle up head to Heritage Cove and have some waffles on the tables outside the Waffle Shack overlooking the town Christmas tree.
