Christmas and romance are in the air and Nell is obsessed! She can’t stop watching her favourite Christmas romcoms and dreaming of the day when she meets her own romantic hero, especially as she is hosting the first ever wedding at her small hotel, Holly Lodge.
Nell’s best friend, Tom, has been in love with her ever since they met. But Nell has never seen him that way, and he’s always kept his feelings a secret in case it ruins their friendship.
After the opening of the glamorous Langdon Mansion Hotel in the bay, Nell’s hotel is struggling for survival and she must fight, with Tom’s help, to keep Holly Lodge open. My Thoughts
A comfy cozy heartwarming Christmas read. Katie Ginger once again stole my heart with her sweet festive storytelling. Tom is in love with Nel but does not want to ruin their friendship. Nel is waiting for a romance like those in her beloved romcoms. She is also trying to keep her beloved family Inn afloat after a new fancier hotel comes to town. Kat is getting married at Nel’s Inn. She is stressed out excited to marry the love of her life, but her overbearing mother is driving her crazy. Will Tom finally confess his true feelings to Nel? Will Nel be able to save her family Inn? Will Kat’s wedding happened?
This book had all the festive vibes. I could just picture what the Inn looked like with the gorgeous tree and lovely holiday arrangements. Nel was such a great character even though she had her head in the clouds. Loved the friends to lovers romance in the book, couldn’t believe these two had not figured out they belong together before now. Tom was such a great guy, such a wonderful support for Nel. The sense of community throughout the story was lovely.
On a personal note I was thrilled to see the inclusion of a character who is dealing with a visual impairment in the book. As someone who has a degenerative eye disease, you don’t often see characters dealing with this in contemporary romance. I don’t have RP myself but I have something fairly similar my retina is deteriorating, unlike this character however I’ve lost my center vision but I have my peripheral vision. I just thought it was nice to see this character struggling with this in a realistic yet hopeful way. Recognizing this does not mean their life is over just altered a little. I know authors and publishers are adding diversity to their stories, I just hope they do not forget the disabled community. Thank you Katie Ginger for being so thoughtful in your approach to this part of the story. It was very much appreciated.❤️

KATIE GINGER lives by the sea in the south-east of England, and apart from holidays to very hot places where you can sit by a pool and drink cocktails as big as your head, she wouldn’t really want to be anywhere else. Winter Wishes at Swallowtail Bay is her sixth novel. She is also the author of Spring Tides at Swallowtail Bay, Summer Strawberries at Swallowtail Bay, Snowflakes at Mistletoe Cottage and the Seafront series – The Little Theatre on the Seafront, shortlisted for the Katie Fforde Debut Novel of the Year award, and Summer Season on the Seafront.
When she’s not writing, Katie spends her time with her husband and two kids, and their dogs: Wotsit, the King Charles spaniel, and Skips, the three-legged Romanian rescue dog. (And yes, they are both named after crisps!)
