Paris is Always a Good Idea by Jen McKinlay **Book Review** @BerkleyPub

Happy almost weekend!

You all! This book was romcom perfection! The romance, the setting, the food!👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨

My Thoughts

Three men. Three countries. And a whole lot of food. Jen McKinlay will tug at your heartstrings and feed your travel bug with this delightful story. Chelsea’s Life completely changed seven years ago after the death of her mother. She has thrown herself into her job where she works for a Cancer nonprofit. She excels at fundraising, but has no personal life. When her father announces he is getting remarried Chelsea is distraught. BUT the unwelcome news makes her realize she has not been happy for a long time. Determined to find her happiness again Chelsea decides to return to the place she was last happy… on her European gap year trip. So off to Ireland, Paris, and Italy Chelsea goes. Not only to find her happiness, but to also rediscover who she once was and perhaps fall in love with one of the men she left behind.

What a fun book! The food… the setting… the amour… did I mention the food? Loved traveling around Europe with Chelsea! There were so many laugh out loud moments and I loved meeting all these charming or perhaps not so charming men. Although I have to say I was partial to Jason her American coworker who showed up in Paris unannounced, because of course Chelsea had some work to do on her vacation. Jason really perfectly balanced out uptight Chelsea. I love the banter and the chemistry between these two. From the second he showed up in front of her door with her suitcase in hand (long story) I was rooting for him. I really can’t say enough good things about this book, it truly was romcom perfection!

About the Book

One of Popsugar’s Best New Books for Summer 2020

A 30-year-old woman retraces her gap year through Ireland, France, and Italy to find love – and herself – in this hilarious and heartfelt novel.

It’s been seven years since Chelsea Martin embarked on her yearlong postcollege European adventure. Since then, she’s lost her mother to cancer and watched her sister marry twice, while Chelsea’s thrown herself into work, becoming one of the most talented fundraisers for the American Cancer Coalition, and with the exception of one annoyingly competent coworker, Jason Knightley, her status as most successful moneymaker is unquestioned.

When her introverted mathematician father announces he’s getting remarried, Chelsea is forced to acknowledge that her life stopped after her mother died and that the last time she can remember being happy, in love, or enjoying her life was on her year abroad. Inspired to retrace her steps – to find Colin in Ireland, Jean Claude in France, and Marcelino in Italy – Chelsea hopes that one of these three men who stole her heart so many years ago can help her find it again.

From the start of her journey nothing goes as planned, but as Chelsea reconnects with her old self, she also finds love in the very last place she expected.

Have a beautiful day! XOXO Berit 💕

Louisiana Lucky by Julie Pennell **Book Review** @atriabooks

Hello lovely book people!

What would you do if you won big in the lottery? This is a book all about three sisters and what happens when they win the big one! 💰

My Thoughts

What would you do if you won $204 million? The Breaux sisters play the lottery every week, but cannot believe it when their numbers are called. Lexi Can now have her dream wedding. Hanna Can now send her kids to private school and live in a house with a roof that doesn’t leak. Callie isn’t sure what she’s going to do with the money, but she knows she’s going to do something that will be beneficial to many. This book was simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking. Lexi and Hanna both thought their new found wealth would also bring them respect. Callie found out not everyone has a heart as big as hers. Julie Pennell has packed a lot of fun and family into this little gem.

Loved reading this! The book allowed me to fantasize what I would do if I won the lottery. I also really enjoy getting to know these sisters. I thought the sister’s reaction to the Wynfall was very realistic as well as how other people reacted. Hanna thought if she sent her son to a wealthy private school he would be less likely to be bullied. Lexi planned a fancy wedding because she thought her mother-in-law to be would think she was worthy. Callie was too trusting. I enjoyed all of the sister’s stories, but I think I liked Callie’s The Best. This is the perfect pick me up, a great escape from today’s crazy times.

*** Big thank you to Atria for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

About the Book

From the critically acclaimed author of The Young Wives Club, a “heartwarming story about friendship, heartache, and self-discovery” (Karen White, New York Times bestselling author), comes a charming novel reminiscent of the works of Mary Alice Monroe and Kristy Woodson Harvey, about three sisters who win a huge lottery prize and learn what it truly means to be lucky.

Lexi, Callie, and Hanna Breaux grew up in small-town Louisiana, and have always struggled to make ends meet. For years, they’ve been playing the lottery, fantasizing about how much better life would be if they had the money.

For Lexi, it means the perfect wedding; for Callie, it means having the courage to go after her career dreams; and for Hanna, it means buying a house that isn’t falling apart and sending her bullied son to private school. When the incredible happens and the Breaux sisters hit it big—$204 million dollars big—all their dreams come true. Or so they think. Because it’s actually not a cliché—money isn’t the answer to everything, and it often comes with problems of its own.

Heartfelt, engaging, and featuring characters you’ll root for from the first moment you meet them, Louisiana Lucky is a satisfying page-turner from a rising star in women’s fiction.

Summer at My Sisters by Emily Harvale **Pub Day** @rararesources @emilyharvale

Happiest of publication days to one of my absolute favorites!

Emily Harvale is one of my must-read authors and I am looking so forward to diving into this delightful book! Be on the lookout for my review on August 23🍉

Summer at my Sister’s

Twin sisters. One scorching summer.

A bucketful of secrets.

Diana’s life is perfect. Her twin sister, Josie’s – not so much.

Diana has a rich and successful husband, two talented youngsters and an adorable dog. She always looks as if she’s stepped from the cover of a magazine. Her immaculate second home by the sea, for idyllic summers with her perfect family, was actually featured in one.

Josie has a messy, compact flat, dates, but not relationships, and she can’t even keep a houseplant alive. She moves from job to job, goes clubbing with her friends and often looks as if she’s fallen through a hedge.

Although Josie loves Diana deeply, each year she declines the invitation to spend the summer with her sister. Or any other family holiday. Because Josie has a secret.

But is Diana’s life so perfect? Or is she also hiding something? When secrets are revealed this summer, everything will change. Josie could finally have the life she’s always wanted … if she’s brave enough to take a chance.

An exciting update from Emily Harvale

I apologise if you haven’t seen me on social media very much recently but I’ve been exceptionally busy working on lots of exciting stuff (technical term) 😂🤩 for my new book, my website … and a map for my new series of standalone stories set in the tiny village of Seahorse Harbour.

The map will ‘go live’ on July 31st, publication day for the first in the series, which is … yep, you guessed it, Summer at my sister’s. Let me explain a bit more.

Summer at my sister’s was originally a standalone, but then I had an idea for a Christmas book, so it became a two-book series, with Book 2 featuring a couple of new characters and most of the characters from Summer at my sister’s (with me so far?) ……

Then …. I had an idea for another completely separate story set in the same village (which I’m writing at the mo.) This one has new characters.

So now, each story in this series will be a standalone with new characters … but as each book is set in Seahorse Harbour, you’ll be able to ‘see’ what’s going on with the characters from the previous books, because you can’t help but bump into people in a tiny village, can you?

I have to say, I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!😍🤩💖🥰 I’ve got so many story ideas, although I’ve only written 2 of the books so far, Summer at my sister’s and the Christmas book, which is called …..

Wait for it……(no, that’s not the title)

Christmas at Aunt Elsie’s

This Christmas book will be available for pre-order from early August. 💖🤩🥰😍

Did I mention that I love this series? And yes – I’m just a little bit over-excited. I can’t wait to share these fabulously feel-good stories with you. I hope you’re a little bit excited too. 🤩💖 xxx

Excerpt

Thank you so much for allowing me to share a little extract from my new book, Summer at my Sister’s.

This is where Josie Parnell is on her way to her twin sister, Diana’s house but stops for a while and meets up with Liam Fulbright – a man she hasn’t seen since he married the most beautiful girl in the world (in Josie’s opinion) when he was just nineteen.

I decided to sit for a while beneath the ancient Oak in the centre of the village, and right in front of the church. From here there was a view directly out to sea and I watched a yacht bob along in the distance and seagulls soar and swoop low over the glass-like, turquoise water. I breathed deeply, pushed my sunglasses onto the top of my head, shoving back the tumbles of wavy red hair and closed my eyes, suddenly remembering long-ago summers. I heard someone walking past but I kept my eyes closed. Until I heard my name.

‘Josie? Is that you?’

My eyes shot open at the sound of a man’s voice. It sounded a lot like Liam Fulbright’s had all those years ago, only deeper, stronger and more commanding somehow. But the man standing in front of me looked nothing like the Liam I remembered. Liam had been tall and gangly and never quite as tanned as everyone else. His hair was always short, as if the scissors had taken fright and cut off far too much. Bits of it stuck out everywhere, a bit like a porcupine. His eyes were dark blue, but nothing to write home about, especially as they appeared more bulbous thanks to the thick glasses he wore. But I had always thought there was something simmering just beneath the surface and that one day, whatever it was, would burst forth and Liam would be transformed.

It seemed I was right. Unless this wasn’t Liam Fulbright.

‘It’s Liam. Liam Fulbright. I don’t suppose you remember me? We spent several summers together, a lifetime ago. Becca told my daughter, Orla you were coming. You haven’t changed a bit. Except, perhaps your hair. I think it was chestnut brown in those days.’ His smile was warm and friendly.

I shaded my eyes from the sun.

‘Liam Fulbright? Really? Wow.’

I put on my sunglasses so that I could see him better and got to my feet. He towered over me. But then so did everyone. Diana and I stopped growing when we reached five foot three.

‘Don’t tell me you’ve walked from the station?’

‘What? Oh. Er. No. I took a taxi but stopped for a quick drink at The Seahorse Inn.’

‘And ended up on the bench here? Just the one drink? Or did you have several?’

I didn’t answer immediately. I was still trying to take in how much he had changed.

‘Er. No. Just one. But I think the jet lag and heat is getting to me.’

‘So you stopped to admire the view.’ He half-turned to look at the sea and then his eyes focussed on me again.

‘Well, it is a rather gorgeous view,’ I said, scanning him from the tips of his black, Converse trainers to the roots of his lustrous chocolate-brown hair.

Gone was the spiky haircut and in its place, soft, natural waves sat around a deeply tanned and exceedingly handsome face. The firm jaw held a hint of stubble, the dark blue eyes, sparkling in the bright sunlight were free of glasses and when he smiled, his sensuous-looking lips parted to reveal perfect, naturally white teeth. He was at least six foot or more and his legs were long in his jeans. His pale blue cotton shirt, although not tight, showed that his chest and shoulders were broad and his forearms, where the sleeves had been rolled back, were certainly toned. Not in a body-builder way, but in a way that made it clear Liam Fulbright was no slouch.

‘I agree with you on that,’ he said. ‘I couldn’t imagine living anywhere but here and seeing that view every day.’

‘No. I could easily get used to a view like this. I mean, like that. The sea. The sea view is gorgeous. Er … I was so sorry to hear about Una. I should’ve sent a card or something. Sorry. I’m a terrible person, I know.’

He reached out and touched my shoulder and I swear to you, my skin seared beneath his hand. Or perhaps my shoulders had got sunburnt. I was wearing a sleeveless blouse and I’m not sure how long I was sitting on that bench in the full midday sun.

‘No you’re not, Josie.’ His voice changed tone. I could detect a hint of anger. ‘To be honest, I wouldn’t have known if you had or not. I was in a bit of a state and didn’t really take in anything at the time. Everything was a bit of a blur.’

Thank you for taking the time to read this extract. I hope you enjoyed it.

And thank you, lovely, for sharing this on your blog. xxx

About the Book

[ ] Dance till dawn

[ ] Wear a bikini in public

[ ] Start living

Two best friends jump-start their lives in a summer that will change them forever….

Single mom Ellen Fox couldn’t be more content – until she overhears her son saying he can’t go to his dream college because she needs him too much. If she wants him to live his best life, she has to convince him she’s living hers.

So Unity Leandre, her best friend since forever, creates a list of challenges to push Ellen out of her comfort zone. Unity will complete the list, too, but not because she needs to change. What’s wrong with a thirtysomething widow still sleeping in her late husband’s childhood bed?

The Friendship List begins as a way to make others believe they’re just fine. But somewhere between “wear three-inch heels” and “have sex with a gorgeous guy”, Ellen and Unity discover that life is meant to be lived with joy and abandon, in a story filled with humor, heartache, and regrettable tattoos.

Silver Pines was the largest retirement community in the Pacific Northwest. There were single-family homes, condos, a golf course, several clubhouses, three restaurants, a workout facility, two pools, tennis and pickleball courts, and a grocery store. Deeper into the multi-acre complex were the independent living apartments, assisted living apartments, memory care and rehab facilities, a skilled nursing home and an outpatient surgery center.

The community hosted weekly garage sales, movie nights and all kind of clubs. The senior center—housed in the largest of the clubhouses—was open to the public.

Unity had discovered it and Silver Pines when she’d first moved back, three years ago. She’d decided to take up knitting, and the senior center had offered a class. She’d enjoyed the company so much, she’d joined the local pickleball league and was a regular at various events. Now, with the exception of Ellen, all her friends were over the age of sixty-five.

She drove through quiet, well-maintained streets. The association took care of all front lawns—freeing the residents from worry. Unity smiled. Maybe Howard should tell his son about the work his lawn business could have here. Not that she was interested. Too many of her friends were trying to fix her up. They liked Unity and wanted to see her “happy.” When she tried to tell them it had been only three years and she was nowhere near over Stuart, they told her she shouldn’t wallow. As if she had a choice about the amount of grief in her life. She also tried explaining that she’d had one great marriage and didn’t need another one, but that didn’t work either. Only Ellen let her be.

Unity turned onto a side street, then another, before pulling in front of a small rambler. The house was two bedrooms and two baths—about twelve hundred square feet. Sadly, Betty had fallen the previous week and broken her hip and would be moving into an independent living apartment.

Betty’s soon-to-be former house, like all the other houses, was on a single level with no stairs. The path from the street to the dark blue front door had a gentle incline. There were no steps anywhere in the house. The doorways were wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Inside the finishes were upscale. There were several floor plans and this was one of Unity’s favorites.

Dagmar met her at the front door. “You’re here. Good. We can get started right away. I went and saw Betty yesterday and got a list of all the things she wants us to pack for her. The movers come in the morning and take care of the rest of it.”

Dagmar, a seventysomething former librarian, had the energy level of a brewing volcano. She wore her straight hair in a chin-length bob. The color varied, sometimes significantly. Currently her swinging, shiny hair was a deep auburn with a single purple stripe on her left side. Her clothes matched her personality—vibrant hues battled prints for attention. She was as likely to show up in a Hawaiian-print caftan as riding pants and a bullfighter’s bolero jacket.

Today she had on a calf-length wrap skirt done in a balloon animal print. Her twinset picked up the lime green of one of the balloons and seemed conservative enough until she turned around and Unity saw a sequined version of the Rolling Stones open mouth logo. As always, reading glasses perched on Dagmar’s head.

“Let’s start in the bedroom. All she wants us to pack up there are her unmentionables.” Dagmar grinned over her shoulder as she led the way through the cheerful living room to the short hallway. “She used those exact words. Unmentionables. What is this? The set of Little Women? I told her unless she had some fur lined G-strings, the movers weren’t going to care, but you know how Betty is.”

Unity was used to Dagmar’s whirlwind, take-charge attitude. The first time Unity had come to Silver Pines to take her knitting classes, Dagmar had spotted her immediately. Within ten minutes, she pretty much knew Unity’s life story. By the end of the fifty-minute lesson, she’d introduced Unity to everyone in the class and had invited Unity to a potluck and a pickleball game. They’d been friends ever since.

“I packed up her medications yesterday,” Dagmar told her, pointing to the bathroom. “I’m hiding them at my place until she’s out of rehab. You know that doctor of hers is going to mess with everything and it will take her weeks to get back on track. This way I have a stash so we can figure it out as we go.”

“Because self-medication is always the answer?” Unity asked wryly.

“At our age, it can be.” Dagmar pointed to the roll of packing paper on the bed. “You get going on her Swarovski collection while I pack up the girl stuff. That’s mostly what she’s worried about. Her glass animals and the pictures, of course.” Dagmar’s smile faded. “She won’t have room to hang them at her new apartment. I’ve been thinking that I should put them all in a photo album for her.”

Before Unity could say anything, Dagmar pointed to the paper. “Chop-chop. I have bridge this afternoon and I’m sure you have work you should be doing.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Unity didn’t take offense at the instruction—it was simply Dagmar’s way. She unrolled the paper, then she walked around the small house, collecting the crystal animals in a sturdy box.

Betty had them in her hutch, of course, but also on floating shelves in the living room and den. As Unity gathered crystal swans and frogs, dogs and birds, she looked around at various rooms. The kitchen was recently remodeled, with quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances. There was plenty of storage and a back deck with room for a table and chairs, along with a barbecue.

Have a lovely day! XOXO Berit🦋

You May Kiss the Bridesmaid by Camilla Isley **Book Review** @rararesources

Hello lovely book people!

Love love love this series! If you like engaging characters, gorgeous settings, and witty dialogue this one’s for you!

You May Kiss the Bridesmaid

Archibald Hill is handsome, single, and he’s going to his best friend’s wedding ready to make a conquest or two. After all, everyone knows weddings are the perfect setting to get lucky.

Summer Knowles used to have a life—friends, family, a sister who’d do anything for her—until she blew it all away with a terrible mistake. Now, attending her twin’s wedding as the party’s undesirable number one seems like more than she can handle. So, when a tall stranger with smoldering ice-blue eyes offers her a therapy of seven nights of no-strings-attached fun, she might even ignore that he has a beard and accept.

Problem is, Summer has never been good at keeping sex and feelings separated…

My Thoughts

Sweet and steamy! Camilla Isley has fast become a must-read author of mine. Her stories are packed with delightful characters, gorgeous settings, clever banter, and sizzling chemistry. ThisIs the sixth book in the”First Comes Love” series, but it can absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone. Although reading the fourth and fifth book will definitely get you in the mood for this book. Additionally both of those books were really good! We met Winter and Logan in the last book and now they are getting married. Summer, Winter‘s twin sister is not to excited about this wedding. She now has to face the past as well as her friends who have cut her out of their lives after she made a pretty major mistake. Archibald is Logan‘s best friend and the best man. He is a bit of a player. He was introduced to us in the previous book, I have to admit I was excited that he was getting his own story. SO of course pariah summer and bad boy Archibald end up hooking up. Summer and Archibald know this is not going to make the bride and groom very happy so they attempt to keep their relationship hush-hush throughout the week of wedding events. This book was just straight up fun and hot! Summer and Archibald had some big-time sizzle. I also love revisiting characters from previous books and all the fun events leading up to the big day. There was a touch of tension throughout the book. I was keeping my fingers crossed hoping that this couple could make things work, but I was also worried about how everyone was going to react. The perfect way to spend a summer day!

Cynthia Smarts Midwife Crisis by Liz Davies **Book Review** @rararesurces

Hello my book friends!

This was such a fun book! Made me smile and laugh! The perfect afternoon escape!

Cynthia Smart’s Midwife Crisis

Midlife crisis? What midlife crisis?

At forty-four, Cynthia Smart is exactly where she wants to be. Almost.

In a couple of years, she’ll be the CEO of the company she’s spent her most of her adult life working in. For now, though, she’s still busy shimmying up the greasy pole of corporate business. She’s single, carefree, and independent, and nothing can stop her getting what she wants and deserves.

Until she discovers she’s pregnant.

Determined to have her cake and eat it, she’s convinced that having a baby will make little difference to her life, and that she will be one of those women who can hold down an incredibly demanding job and also be a perfect mother.

But as her pregnancy progresses and her life slowly falls apart, she has the sneaking suspicion that Max Oakland, the new guy on the block, is out to steal her dream job. That she’s terribly attracted to him doesn’t help, nor does the fact that he’s devilishly handsome, appears to be a really nice fella, and is good in a crisis.

When she gradually comes to realise that something has got to give, what she doesn’t want it to be is her heart.

Perfect for fans of Mandy Baggott, Heidi Swain, and Holly Martin.

My Thoughts

This was FUN! Liz Davies always writes such relatable stories packed with loads of humor and heart. Cynthia has the career of her dreams. At only 44 she is targeted to be CEO in the next few years that is until… *bum bum bum* A pink line on the pregnancy test. Determined not to let a minor thing like a baby change anything, Cynthia is convinced that she can have it ALL. Loved how real and relatable this was. I think we all idealize having a baby until that little bundle of joy finally arrives. It was so humorous watching Cynthia deal with her changing body as her pregnancy progressed. I really loved her as a character, I would have love to go to lunch with her and discuss her goings-on. I also loved Macs. He really was the nicest guy ever and still Cynthia was so suspicious of him trying to take her job. The relationship between these two was so great. Once again Liz Davies put a big smile on my face and hope in my heart. The perfect little afternoon Escape.

Author Bio –

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.

She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat – she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.

She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper van and travel the world in it.

Wife Support System by Kathleen Whyman **Book Review** @rararesources

Hello book lovers!

Are you a sucker for a good title? I can definitely be drawn in by a clever title and I love the title of this book!

Wife Support System

We’ve got the balance all wrong. Instead of living with our partners, struggling to do everything by ourselves and only seeing each other now and then, we should do it the other way round. We should live together and see them now and then.

Erica knows her suggestion sounds extreme, but when her nanny leaves without notice, she’s extremely desperate. Polly and Louise aren’t convinced, but when circumstances force them to move into Polly’s enormous but run-down house, they have to admit life’s much easier when the childcare and work is shared.

At first, communal living seems like the answer to their prayers – childcare on tap, rotas for cleaning and someone always available to cook dinner (no more last-minute pizza delivery!). But over time, resentment starts to grow as they judge each other’s parenting styles and bicker over cleaning, cooking and whose turn it is to buy toilet rolls.

And as one woman has her head turned by a handsome colleague, one resorts to spying on her husband and another fights to keep a dark secret, they need each other more than ever. But can Polly, Louise and Erica keep their friendship and relationships strong? Or will their perfect mumtopia fall apart?

Essential reading for anyone fed up with never-ending housework/homeschooling/preparing healthy meals that their kids reject … Fans of Why Mummy Drinks, Has Anyone Seen My Sex Life? and Beth O’Leary won’t want to miss this one!

My Thoughts

Three wives, five kids, and a house. Kathleen Whyman has written an entertaining story with plenty of food for thought. Louise, Erica, and Polly are on vacation complaining about their partners (or lack there of) when Erica has a great idea. What if we all live together during the week share childcare, household chores, and cooking. Then on the weekends we go stay with our partners? At first both Louise and Polly are hesitant, but eventually they come around to Erica‘s way of thinking. When the women first move into Polly’s big house it is wonderful. They are enjoying the camaraderie, the companionship, and the shared responsibilities. BUT it doesn’t take long before things go slightly sideways. Erica is a workaholic, Louise is constantly checking out, and Polly is left doing the bulk of the child care. When things start getting personal over a argument about who’s turn it is to purchase toilet paper, it is time to reevaluate this experiment.

This was such a fun book. I absolutely loved this refreshing plot line. Anyone who has ever had a roommate knows it is all about compromise. In this book not all the women were always willing to do this. I found Erica particularly selfish. I really wanted to like her, but I had to question a few of her actions. Louise was a hot mess! I really felt for her and how consumed she was with her luxe. The saddest part was she had a husband who loved her just the way she was and she didn’t appreciate it. Polly’s story was heartbreaking, but I have to admit it was the story I was most interested in. She really had a big heart and I was really thrilled with how this book ended for her. What I loved the most about this book was the interactions between the women and the growth these characters had throughout the book. A well done engaging debut.

Wedding Bells at Merriment Bay by Emily Harvale **Book Review** @rararesources @emilyharvale

Happy Tuesday all!

Over the weekend I posted a review for another book by Emily that really is a companion to this book. I read these books one after another and I think that enhanced my enjoyment of these two interlocking series.💕

Wedding Bells in Merriment Bay

Merriment Bay series – Book 3

Change is in the air as wedding bells ring out in Merriment Bay

Cat’s determined to propose to Amias. Well, it is a leap year so it’s fine for women to do the asking, and besides, it took him eighteen years to tell her how he felt. She’s not going to wait for him to pop the question. All she needs to do is find the perfect time and place.

Kyra’s fallen for Francis Raine, who seems happy to flirt and exchange banter but hasn’t actually asked her out. Does he reciprocate her feelings, or is he this way with every girl he meets? There’s only one way to find out. She’ll ask him on a date … as soon as he returns to Merriment Bay.

Mary’s leaving Devon Villa after a lifetime spent in the house. She’s never lived alone so it’s both an exciting and a terrifying prospect. But change is good, isn’t it? Perhaps it’s time she tried a few other new things too.

The Devon women want to move on to the next chapters in their lives. And as Viola Devon used to say before she died, “The only one who can write your own life story as you want it, is you.” Although Viola’s didn’t work out too well. Will Cat, Kyra, and Mary have better luck with theirs?

My Thoughts

What a wonderful ending to these two interconnecting series! Emily Harvale once again you have broken my heart by ending A Series far too soon for me! I read the latest books in both the Wynterleap series and this one back to back. Both Series are interconnected with many characters crossing over into both, I really love how Emily does this. Both series can be read independently, but I strongly encourage you to read both in tandem. They are both wonderful series filled with charming characters and delightful settings.

Will Cat and Amias finally tied the knot? This is a romance 18 years in the making and I have to say the grand finale was quite the show! Cat’s mom meets a new man and I think she’s finally found a good one. Now that Kyra is single will she and Francis get together? All these questions will be answered and so much more! Love this little town by the sea and these characters that feel like friends. Looking forward to what Emily has in store for us next.

Musical Chairs by Amy Poeppel **Book Review** @atriabooks

Happy Monday afternoon all!

Excited to share with you today my review for this delightful book! This was such a heartwarming and humorous story about family and friendship, I absolutely loved it.

My Thoughts

Humor, heart, dogs, and sheep.Amy Poeppel has written a wonderfully whimsical story of family and friendship. Bridget is excited to spend the summer in her summer home in upstate Connecticut with her new boyfriend Sterling. A nice quiet summer with just the two of them. That is until Sterling ends things over email and Bridgets adult twins show up with crises and without notice. Not only that her 90-year-old father has just announced his pending marriage, and guess who’s hosting the wedding? Suddenly Bridgets quiet summer has turned quite chaotic. Thank goodness for her good friend Will! Bridget and Will have known one another since college. Most people assume they have been romantically involved at some point, but they truly have only ever been friends. Bridget plays the cello, will plays the piano, and they make up 2/3 of a trio. It’s that third member, that third chair that keeps changing.

This was the perfect title for this book not only was the trio constantly in search of the third chair, but the book itself had a constant changing of characters. At first I had a little trouble keeping track of who was who, but it did not take that long to get into the rhythm of the story. The book really highlighted the complexities and chaos of family life. Each character in this book brought something special and necessary to the table. There were so many humorous moments some involving sheep and chickens, some not. But my favorite moments of the story were when all these crazy characters were together, truly never a doll moment. Amy Poeppel’s descriptive writing style made me feel like I was right there with these characters. A well told story packed with characters I grew to adore.

About the Book

Amy Poeppel, the “quick-witted and razor-sharp” (Taylor Jenkins Reid, author of Daisy Jones & The Six) author of Limelight and Small Admissions has created a “profound, delicious, and soul-stirring” (Caroline Leavitt, author ofPictures of You) novel in MUSICAL CHAIRS, acharming story of role reversals, reinvention, and sweet synchronicity.

Classical cellist Bridget is preparing her country home for two months of romance with the man she hopes to marry when he emails to cancel not only the vacation, but the relationship entirely. Shortly thereafter, her adult children arrive unannounced, with their literal and emotional baggage. Her summer is suddenly much messier than she anticipated.

Her once-empty nest is not only full, but also falling apart. As she begrudgingly repairs her heart and her home, her tenuous foundation cracks further: her father, a famous musician now in his late 80’s, announces his engagement to a longtime friend of the family; and the violinist hired to reinvigorate her chamber trio backs out.

The Forsyth Trio, comprised of herself, her best friend Will and an always-changing third person, has informed much of Bridget’s life since Juilliard. She and Will are compatible, committed, loving, and to people’s constant shock, totally platonic. The group’s demise would distance Bridget from Will, an unnerving possibility that feels more and more imminent as they struggle to fill the open position.

Unlike the symphonies her father writes, and she plays, Bridget learns that life cannot be perfectly arranged. It’s messy and uncertain, but so incredibly full.
