My Thoughts
A little romance, a little mystery, a little paranormal. Florence Keeling has written an engaging story about a girl, a ghost, a dog, a book, a mystery, a Secret, and a love. Bea is ready for a new start, and after some shenanigans at her job she decides to take a new job in a little village a couple hours away. And bonus her new job is with a publishing house and she’s always dreamed of being an author. There was a lot packed into the story, and sometimes it was a little too busy. There is Bea and her new job and her relationship with her new boss. Then there’s Bea and her sweet romance with Eddie. Can’t forget about uncle Joe and the little black dog Buddy who always seems to be leading Bea in a certain direction. We also have Bea and her tenuous relationship with her mother and of course the ghosts.
Bea was such a likable character, but wow did she frustrate me at times. I really enjoyed all the elements to this book, but at times there was a little too much going on. My favorite parts were the charming village, the lovely boat, the sweet romance with Eddie, the paranormal aspect, and the little dog. If some of the other stuff was trimmed this would’ve been perfect. This is not to say that I did not enjoy this book, because I definitely did. I just wish there was a little more of the parts that I enjoyed the most. An uplifting feel good story perfect for an afternoon of summer reading.
