Happy Friday all!
As of midnight we are now on a safer at home order, meaning only grocery stores, hardware stores, take out and delivery restaurants, and banks are open in the state of California. I would have never thought in my lifetime, thank goodness we all have books to keep us a little more sane! And this is a good one!
My Thoughts
A gritty and dark police procedural. Noelle Holten has crafted another addictive and compelling tale. This is the second book in this series, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone; the focus is on Maggie a police detective rather than Lucy a probation officer. Serial killer Bill Raven is behind bars convicted of killing three women. But now he is retracting his confession. And when a body of one of his victims shows up and forensics show that she was killed only two days ago things start to go sideways. How could he have killed this girl when he was in jail? DI Maggie Jamison is beside herself, how could she have possibly got this so wrong? What follows is a fast paced twisted tale of cat and mouse.
Maggie Jamison is an interesting character and we did get a little glimpse into her personal life. But I have to admit I am looking forward to getting to know her better throughout the series. Bill Raven is the perfect disturbed and deranged killer that you do not want to have unleashed on the public. The short chapters kept this story moving at the perfect pace. The mystery was clever and well constructed, definitely kept me guessing. The ending made me gasp and want more! Another stellar edition to what looks like is going to be an excellent crime thriller series.
*** Big thank you to One More Chapter for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***
About the Book
The serial killer is behind bars. But the murders are just beginning…
DC Maggie Jamieson’s past comes back to haunt her in this dark and gripping serial killer thriller.
Three missing women running out of time…
They were abducted years ago. Notorious serial killer Bill Raven admitted to killing them and was sentenced to life.
The case was closed – at least DC Maggie Jamieson thought it was…
But now one of them has been found, dismembered and dumped in a bin bag in town.
Forensics reveal that she died just two days ago, when Raven was behind bars, so Maggie has a second killer to find.
Because even if the other missing women are still alive, one thing’s for certain: they don’t have long left to live…
