The Second Chance Supper Club by Nicole Meier @suzyapbooktours @luauthors @amazonpub #bookreview

Happy Monday all!

We are finally having some fall weather and I am loving it! Excited to share with you today my review for this charming story filled with food and family!🍽

My Thoughts

A delectable tale blended with all the ingredients you need for a perfect heartwarming read.

• •A generous dose of heart.

• • A sizable dollop of conflict.

• • A heaping spoonful of misunderstanding.

• • A liberal sprinkling of drama.

• • A peppering of romance.

• A delightful mixture of food, family, and fun! The story of two sisters Julia and Ginny Who not only find their way back to each other, but also rediscover themselves. A second chance at sisterhood, a second chance at love, and a second chance at life. A tale not only about the bond between sisters, but also the bond between mother and daughter. An engaging story about forgiveness, understanding, and discovery.

The story jumps back and forth between the perspectives of Julia and Ginny. I really like this because we really got to know both characters and understand where they were coming from. I would have however really loved getting Olive’s perspective as well. Olive was Ginny’s daughter and I found the tension and relationship between these two the most compelling part of the story. I think this is more so because I have a daughter the same age and I do not have a sister, so I was more connected to the mother daughter relationship then the sister sister relationship. Both sisters frustrated me at times, they both tended to be a bit selfish and I never quite got a clear picture as to why there was such a rift between them. They both had a lot of growing up to do, sometimes I had to stop and remember that they were in their late 30s early 40s. I loved how the story ended, I was so happy for all of them especially Olive. A feel good story that will make you smile and crave a good meal!

About the Book

In THE SECOND CHANCE SUPPER CLUB two estranged sisters reunite in an emotional novel of family, forgiveness, lost hope, new beginnings and delicious food.

Ginny and Julia Frank had a forever bond, until a sudden tragedy thrust them apart. Now, each at a crossroad in her own life, their paths are about to intersect. Broadcast journalist Julia has it all: a career, an ambitious fiancé, and the hard-won respect of her peers. Until a hasty and desperate decision destroys her reputation, puts her job at risk, and sends her reeling toward the only soul left to turn to: her estranged sister, Ginny.

The owner of a clandestine supper club hidden in the Arizona desert, Ginny has a lot on her plate. The last thing she wants is more drama—or the burden of nursing her younger sister’s wounded ego. Her young adult daughter Olive is enough to deal with. But family is family. Besides, Ginny can use the help in more ways than one, and she’s going to make sure Julia pulls her weight.

As a tenuous reunion reopens old wounds, Julia and Ginny have no choice but to confront the pain and betrayals of the past. Will working to keep the secret supper club running be just what they need to find common ground and a path toward forgiveness, or will the increasing stress push them even further apart?

No Good Time For Goodbye by Kate Hewitt @katehewitt1 @bookouture #bookreview

Happy Sunday all!

Delighted to share with you today my review for this book that was simultaneously heartbreaking and uplifting! A beautiful story, but be sure to have the tissue handy!😢

My Thoughts

Kate Hewitt has written another emotionally draining and heart wrenching story. A tale drenched in grief, guilt, and blame. How does a family survive when the person who held it all together is no longer around? How do you live another day, take another breath, when the worst possible thing has happened? This is the story of Nathan and his three daughters and how they try to pick up the pieces and learn to live again after Laura their wife/mother has been murdered. It was heartbreaking watching Nathan struggle to keep it together while his three daughters all at different ages dealt with their grief in very different ways. In an attempt to come to terms with what had happened to his wife Nathan visits the place where she was volunteering and the people that new of her secret longings. This leads to him meeting Maria. Maria is all too familiar with guilt and grief having gone through her own tragedy. She soon becomes a major source of support for the family and ultimately is hired as the children’s nanny, but Maria has some secrets that could possibly change everything.

This story really tugged at my heartstrings, especially the grief of the daughters. Alexa was so angry, Ella was so timid, and Ruby was just so young. And then there was Nathan, he was just so lost. Not only had he lost his wife, but he didn’t really know his daughters quite as well as he should have. I thought the subject of grief was handled very lovingly and realistically in the story. Maria was a great character and I’d love a story about her that delved more into her life leading up to the events of this book. There is a bit of a mystery in the story, who killed Laura and why? But if I’m being honest it really was so unimportant to the story that I am not even certain it was necessary. An emotional read that should come with a box of Kleenex.

This book in three emojis: 🇧🇦 🙍🏼‍♀️ 👨‍👧‍👧

About the Book

It hit me, the reality of it, in a way it hadn’t before like a sledgehammer straight to the chest. Laura was gone. She was never coming back. I’d never see her again; she’d never hum in the kitchen, she’d never pull Ruby onto her lap and tickle her tummy as she buried her face in the sweet curve of our daughter’s shoulder.

Nathan West loved his wife Laura with all his heart. But now she’s gone, taken from him in a seemingly random act of violence. Laura was the glue that held their family together. And for Nathan, life without her feels almost meaningless.

As he tries to find hope in the darkness, his three young daughters express their grief in different and challenging ways – with one set on a path of self-destruction that could devastate their family all over again. Desperate to understand his own heartbreak better, he reaches out to others who had known Laura. Including her new friend Maria, whose light and warmth are exactly what their grieving family needs, and who is soon helping out and providing emotional support for them all.

But the picture Maria paints of Laura is unfamiliar to Nathan – of a wife who felt ignored, a mother who felt she couldn’t do enough – and he struggles to reconcile it with his own memories of the woman he loved. Is it possible he didn’t know his wife after all? And can he trust Maria? He can’t escape the feeling that she’s keeping something from him.

Maria is hiding a secret with the power to rock Nathan’s family to its core. Because it is about what happened the day that Laura died…

An insightful and powerful novel guaranteed to break your heart, about how the unthinkable can sometimes help us see the world in a powerful new way. Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Diane Chamberlain, and Susan Lewis.

Four Christmases and a Secret by Zara Stoneley @zarastoneley @rararesources #bookreview

Happy weekend!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 88 days until Christmas! This was the perfect book to start off my Christmas reading season, there was just enough Christmas to make it a Christmas book but not so much to make it crazy that I was reading this in September!💚❤️💚❤️

Four Christmases and a Secret

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

Except for Daisy Christmas means another of Uncle T’s dreaded Christmas parties, complete with Christmas jumper and flashing antlers.  And Oliver Cartwright.  Gorgeous Oliver Cartwright. Who she hates.

Every year Daisy has to face insufferable Ollie and hear all about how BRILLIANT he is.  Whereas Daisy has no job, no man and no idea how to fix things.

This Christmas however Daisy is determined things will be different.  There will be no snogging Ollie under the mistletoe like when they were teenagers.  No, this year she’ll show Ollie that she’s a Responsible Adult too.

But as the champagne corks pop, and the tinsel sparkles, Uncle T has news of his own to share…and it could change Daisy’s life forever…

My Thoughts

The perfect Christmas book to kick off the holiday reading season. Precisely the right amount of Christmas cheer to start getting you in the spirit. this really is a book you could read anytime of the year, so you don’t feel crazy that you’re reading it in September. Zara Stoneley has written another fabulous book full of fantastic characters and the perfect blend of romance and humor. I smiled, I swooned, and at one point I laughed so hard tears were coming down my face.

Daisy has lost everything, her job, her boyfriend, and maybe even her dog. This was not the life that Daisy or her mother had planned for her, and it is made even worse when she is constantly compared to childhood friend Mr. perfect Oliver. Then Daisy finds a new job (not necessarily the job of her dreams but a job nonetheless) and finds herself sharing an apartment with Ollie. This was a fun will they? won’t they? story. Ollie and daisy are lifelong family friends with a complicated and competitive past. Even though they ”snogged” A couple times in the past, neither of them are willing to admit to any kind of attraction. Thank goodness uncle Terrence is around with his mistletoe magic. This book was just so much fun! I especially love the annual Christmas parties complete with ugly holiday sweaters. And best of all the parties took place in uncle Terrance’s bookshop. Terrence was a character that made any time of the year festive! Daisy end Ollie were great and I loved watching their relationship develop, although at times I was quite frustrated with the two of them! Daisy was a character that I’d love to be friends with, and girl I’d support you much more than you know who. I’d also love an invite to one of those Christmas parties! The secrets in the story were surprising and added an additional layer to all the mischief and magic. This is a story that will appeal to all romcom lovers, even if you are a book Scrooge and don’t enjoy Christmas Reads!

The Liar’s Sister by Sarah A. Denzil @bookouture #bookreview #theliarssister

Happy Friday y’all!

I am so excited that it is going to be cooler this weekend! Looking forward to temperatures in the mid70s! Excited to share with you today my review for this fast-paced addictive thriller!

My Thoughts

and the twists keep coming!!!

Sarah A. Denzil has written another fast paced twisted thriller that left my head spinning! First of all I want to address how hard it is to please a thriller Reader these days (myself included). We want a book full of twists and turns that we don’t see coming, Full of tension that keeps us on the edge of our seat. We want an ending that will completely shock us, and we want it to be entirely believable. On top of that we want likable characters that we can relate to, that are completely nuts, that do unthinkable things, but are never over the top. Damn we are a tough crowd! This book will check almost all a thriller lover’s boxes, with the exception of believability and being over the top. But I’m here to say I’m OK with that and I’m here for it! This book kept me engaged and absorbed from first sentence to last. There were plenty of twists and turns that I did not see coming and an ending that definitely shocked me. Was it over the top? Was it slightly unbelievable? Yes! But I don’t care because I enjoyed every single minute of it!

The book completely sucked me in from the very beginning with a letter written by Heather to her sister Rosie confessing that she knew she was a murderer. The story then bounces back-and-forth between Heather in the present day and Rosie in the past. Something happened 10 years ago that completely impacted the sisters lives in a negative way. Something neither of them have ever completely gotten over. The truth was slowly revealed to us through the alternating perspectives, but then at about 75% BAM! Things went sideways and it was twist after twist after twist after twist. If you read this and were able to puzzle this entire mystery together, my hats off to you! This is an addictive thriller you can definitely read in one sitting!

Swipe Right For Murder by Derek Milman @DerekMilman @jimmy_books @HachetteAudioUK #BookReview #SwipeRightForMurder #DerekMilman

Hello book friends,

I’m super excited to share my review for this awesome thriller, this is one that you should definitely add to your TBR pile, and if it is already on there, bump it up!

My Thoughts

🅻🅶🅱🆃 🅼🅴🅴🆃🆂 🅷🅸🆃🅲🅷🅲🅾🅲🅺

As soon as I read the synopsis for this book, I knew I had to read it.

A YA gay thriller, where the MC wakes up next to a dead guy!!!

I mean…who wouldn’t want to read that??  Sign. Me. Up!

Aidan is our protagonist in this story, he is 17 years old, and is staying the night in a hotel in New York.

As any young red-blooded male would do, Aidan picks up his phone, and logs into his “Dirty Paws” app (think Grindr) to find himself a hookup for the evening.

Except when he wakes up after his little tryst, his partner for the evening is dead!

After looking around the room to find out what the hell is going on, Aidan finds the mans phone, and looking through it, finds pictures, lot and lots of pictures…of him!

After noticing a small hole in the window, and a terrifying call from an unknown person claiming to know what he has done and who he is, Aidan finds himself on the run, from his friends, from the FBI, and what seems to be some kind of Cult.

This is a case of mistaken identity going horribly wrong, and I loved every second of it, and the nod to Hitchcock throughout the book was fantastic.

Aidan is such a great character, he has a very dry sense of humour and is very self deprecating, which I found adorable, It is a very British thing to do, so I instantly connected with him.

Lots of twist and turns in this one, so make sure your head is screwed on tight, otherwise you may just lose it!

🎧🎧

Narrated by Jay Ben Markson, who was just a wonderful voice for Aidan, I absolutely loved his mannerisms and narration style.

Grab this one when you can, you won’t regret it!

Enjoy

An epic case of mistaken identity puts a teen looking for a hookup on the run from both the FBI and a murderous cult in this compulsively listenable thriller.
Finding himself alone in a posh New York City hotel room for the night, Aidan does what any red-blooded 17-year-old would do – tries to hook up with someone new. But that lapse in judgement leads him to a room with a dead guy and a mysterious flash drive…two things that spark an epic case of mistaken identity that puts Aidan on the run – from the authorities, his friends, his family, the people who are out to kill him – and especially from his own troubled past.
Inspired by a Hitchcock classic, this whirlwind mistaken-identity caper has razor-sharp humor, devastating emotional stakes, and a thrilling storyline with an explosive conclusion to make this the most compelling YA novel of 2019.

My Thoughts

🅿🆁🅴🅿🅰🆁🅴 🅵🅾🆁 🅽🅸🅶🅷🆃 🆃🅴🆁🆁🅾🆁🆂

Anna has terrible insomnia, she hasn’t really been able to sleep properly since the accident, the guilt and the memories are eating her up from the inside.

She decides the best thing for her to do is just get away, so she goes as far away from her problems as she possibly can, and accepts a job on a remote Scottish island called Rum.

Getting ready for the busy period, 7 guests are checked into the Bay View Hotel.

Each one of them has a secret, but one has a deadlier secret that Anna doesn’t know about.

Seven strangers. Seven secrets. One deadly lie.

Someone’s going to sleep and never waking up…

I love a ‘Who-Done-It’ story, and this one was just wonderful, it wasn’t too fast paced, but it gradually sucked you into the story, until the inevitable WTF…..and I didn’t see it coming!

Prepare to turn into a detective while you try and work this one out!

🎧🎧

Narration by Clare Corbett was excellent, I loved her tone and her very calming voice, but when the sh*t started to hit the fan, I found myself holding my breath many times.
I will certainly be looking out for other books she has narrated.

**Many thanks to Lauren at Avon Books, Harper Collins UK, and the Author for my copy of this audiobook**

The Glass Ocean by Beatrix Williams, Karen White, Lauren Willig @wmmorrowbooks @harperaudio @tlcbooktours #bookreview

Happy Wednesday all!

Super excited to share with you today my review for this amazing book that I loved from first page to last! Thanks to Trish for my invitation to this tour!🛳

My Thoughts

Beatrice Williams, Karen White, and Lauren Willig’s collaboration was flawless, beautiful, and riveting. These three authors have seamlessly woven together the lives of three strong, smart, and brave women. Caroline and Tess are two women from very different circumstances who find themselves onboard the Lusitania in May of 1915. Where they find themselves tangled up in elicit love, scandal, and beTrayal. Caroline was sophisticated and charming while Tess was feisty and tenacious, but these two ladies will find themselves forever bonded together I tragedy and love. Sarah is a present day struggling author trying to find the perfect storyline for her next book when she comes across her great grandfather’s chest. The information inside the chest contains some information about the Lusitania that could alter the perception of history. The story was exquisitely told, flowing together perfectly as the narrative bounced between these three women. I was never confused and I think this was helped by the fact that I listen to this on audio. The book had three amazing narrators who gave the perfect unique voice to each of these characters. A remarkable story equal parts romantic and mysterious. Atmospheric and evocative this book will transport you to the opulence of the Lusitania and then to the horror of tragedy. The present day story was equally as absorbing. I loved watching Sarah piece all the clues together.

This book really made me quite curious about the Lusitania and why it hasn’t been romanticize as much as the titanic, almost the same amount of lies were lost in both tragedies. It also made me wonder why in the world would the US allow a passenger ship to sail across the ocean in the middle of a war? Especially because according to history Germany said they would sink the ship, and they were true to their word. Sounds like a terrible vacation, if Caroline and her husband Gilbert had gone to the Grand Canyon none of this would’ve happened. But then I guess we wouldn’t of had this exceptional story!

About The Glass Ocean

• Paperback: 432 pages
• Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks; Reprint edition (September 10, 2019)

From the New York Times bestselling authors of The Forgotten Room comes a captivating historical mystery, infused with romance, that links the lives of three women across a century—two deep in the past, one in the present—to the doomed passenger liner, RMS Lusitania.

May 2013
Her finances are in dire straits and bestselling author Sarah Blake is struggling to find a big idea for her next book. Desperate, she breaks the one promise she made to her Alzheimer’s-stricken mother and opens an old chest that belonged to her great-grandfather, who died when the RMS Lusitania was sunk by a German U-Boat in 1915. What she discovers there could change history. Sarah embarks on an ambitious journey to England to enlist the help of John Langford, a recently disgraced Member of Parliament whose family archives might contain the only key to the long-ago catastrophe. . . .

April 1915
Southern belle Caroline Telfair Hochstetter’s marriage is in crisis. Her formerly attentive industrialist husband, Gilbert, has become remote, pre-occupied with business . . . and something else that she can’t quite put a finger on. She’s hoping a trip to London in Lusitania’s lavish first-class accommodations will help them reconnect—but she can’t ignore the spark she feels for her old friend, Robert Langford, who turns out to be on the same voyage. Feeling restless and longing for a different existence, Caroline is determined to stop being a bystander, and take charge of her own life. . . .

Tessa Fairweather is traveling second-class on the Lusitania, returning home to Devon. Or at least, that’s her story. Tessa has never left the United States and her English accent is a hasty fake. She’s really Tennessee Schaff, the daughter of a roving con man, and she can steal and forge just about anything. But she’s had enough. Her partner has promised that if they can pull off this one last heist aboard the Lusitania, they’ll finally leave the game behind. Tess desperately wants to believe that, but Tess has the uneasy feeling there’s something about this job that isn’t as it seems. . . .

As the Lusitania steams toward its fate, three women work against time to unravel a plot that will change the course of their own lives . . . and history itself.

Escape to Giddywell Grange by Kim Nash @kimthebookworm @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Tuesday all!

Excited and delighted to share with you today and my review for another amazing book by one of our favorite people and authors Kim Nash! Thank you Rachel for my invitation to this tour!

Escape To Giddywell Grange

Maddy Young thought she had it all.

Swanky city apartment? – yep. Fancy car? sorted. High-flying career? – tick.

Even if she’s lost most of her friends because of spending all her time at work, and can’t remember when she last had fun, it’s worth it.

Until she’s suddenly made redundant. Now she’s 37, jobless, and after the breakup with the former love of her life, unhappily single.

Enter Maddy’s childhood friend, Beth, the owner of Growlers, the doggy daycare centre at Giddywell Grange, on a mission to make Maddy see there’s more to life than work.

Soon, Maddy is swapping spreadsheets for volunteer duty at the library, daily Starbucks for cups of tea with elderly neighbours, and her Prada handbag for doggy poo bags… And with Beth’s gorgeous brother, Alex, back from the States, Maddy starts to think that Giddywell Grange might just be her happy place.

But when her old life – and her old boyfriend – comes calling, will Maddy go back to the job she loved so much? Or will she discover that the key to happiness lies in making others happy?

An uplifting romantic comedy that will warm your heart – perfect for fans of Cathy Bramley, Milly Johnson and Katie Fforde.

My Thoughts

Kim Nash, well done! Another fabulous, relatable, feel good story! Great characters – yep. Charming setting? Sorted. An entertaining storyline – tick. Maddy has lost everything her job, her company car, her company phone, and the “love of her life“. Not knowing exactly what to do with her life she seeks comfort in the place and people that love her best, Home. This is a book about reinventing yourself, reevaluating what is important to you, and realizing who the true people you can count on are. The story had such a warmth to it, a cozy comforting vibe.

Maddy was such a wonderful character. Someone you would want to be friends with, and I loved how much her self-worth grew throughout the story. Her friend Beth was great and I loved how welcoming and supportive she was to Maddy. Loved the interactions between Maddy and her mother, there was just something so heartwarming about Maddy sleeping in her childhood bedroom. This is not a spoiler (I hope) but for a small portion of the story Maddy works at a gym, as someone who has spent her entire life working in the fitness industry that part was so spot on, so hilarious! The romance in the story was so sweet and so understated, I thought that worked perfectly in this book. Kim is a brilliant storyteller whose words had me completely invested in the lives of these lovely characters.

Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words by Tara Sivec & Andi Arndt @TaraSivec @andi_arndt #BookReview #HeidisGuidetoFourLetterWords

Hello book friends,

I have the PERFECT book for you all today, prepare for laughs and mortification a-plenty!

43517166._SY475_

🅳🅸🅲🅺 🆃🅰🆂🆃🅴 🅸🅽 🅼🆈 🅿🅰🅻🅼, 🆂🅻🅴🅰🆉🆈 🆂🅻🅴🅰🆉🆈 🅷🅴

🅱🅴🅽🆃 🆈🅾🆄🆁 🅳🅾🅽🅶

Ok while you are listening to this book, and definitely listen to get the best effect, please do the following:

Do not hold anything breakable in your hands, you will likely drop it, or throw it in the air when you gasp and put your hand to your mouth, imagine accidentally stabbing yourself in the eye? PUT DOWN THE KNIFE

Have plenty of Kleenex to hand, as you will most certainly cry laughing.

If you have to listen to this one in public, try not to shout Nooooooo too loud and scare the other shoppers in the supermarket.

You will cringe, you will laugh hysterically, you will feel mortified on Heidi’s behalf, but you will absolutely love the bones of that goofy girl, I promise!

Heidi is a Kindergarten teacher in Minnesota, who has unfortunately been laid off, she is sweet and innocent, so when she gets a new job at an audio studio, she has a bit of a shock when she listens to one of the narrators recording a naughty erotic book.

Oh the horror, Heidi’s idea of a romance book is something that is nice, polite, and fade to black, she can’t even say a dirty word without blushing.

Her hot new neighbour gets her thinking that in order to ask him out, she needs to be able to pluck up the courage to do so, and as the studio are throwing out some old recording equipment, Heidi seizes the opportunity to ‘broaden her horizons’ and get those dirty books out on air…the thing is, she can’t even say the words.

After a drunken evening alone, she finally has drunk enough dutch courage, and “Heidi’s Discount Erotica” is born, with not so brilliant results.

I laughed so much at this book, the things that go wrong for her are just incredible, whether that is being scratched to pieces while hiding in a bush from her neighbour Brad, or the ‘Talk to Text’ the “Dick Taste in my Palm” sentence above which didn’t sound anything like that when she narrated it, but who checks their texts before they send them??

As per all of Tara Sivec’s books, her secondary characters are always perfect, and this book was absolutely no exception.
Heidi’s parents were almost as funny as she was.

I’m not sure who’s idea it was for Andi Arndt and Tara Sivec to write a book together, but whoever it was, they should definitely do it again, it was just pure genius.

Narration by Andi Arndt was just incredible, and her Minnesota accent for Heidi was apparently spot on, being from the UK it didn’t translate with me, and a few of the “Uff da!” references didn’t make sense, but from what I can gather, it is spot on as she lived there for years.

Enjoy

Cowritten by USA Today best-selling author Tara Sivec and award-winning narrator Andi Arndt, a hysterically funny, heartfelt romance – created specifically for the audio format!
Nothing good ever comes from drinking a box of wine alone. So when I decided to entertain my drunken self by setting up some hand-me-down podcasting equipment and reading the steamy parts from romance novels, I never thought anyone would actually listen. The fact that I admitted my huge crush on my sexy next door neighbor made the whole thing even more mortifying. But sometimes life surprises you, and that’s how my podcast, Heidi’s Discount Erotica, was born.
Now I, Heidi Larsen, a sweet former kindergarten teacher in Waconia, Minnesota, lead a scandalous double life reading erotic novels to the listening world. And with each episode, I find myself embracing my new alter ego more and more. Now I’m starting to feel more comfortable in my own skin and do things I never would have dreamed of – like kissing my neighbor.
Look out, Waconia, because Heidi’s on the loose! She’s in your ears, in your hearts, and down your pants…wait, that didn’t sound as good as it did in my head. Well, you get the picture, don’tcha know!

A couple of anonymous letters are delivered to the houses that were broken into, apologising for their sons behaviour, and to assure them that it has been dealt with and that it won’t happen again.

Local neighbours turn detective and try to figure out who sent the letters, but when a woman down the street is found murdered, the neighbourhood goes into fight-or-flight mode.

Who could it be?
Who would want to murder someone in this street?
Could it have anything to do with the break-ins?
What did they find on my computer??

A fabulous thriller that will keep you on your toes, you will second guess everything.

Narrated brilliantly by Kirsten Potter, I absolutely loved her voice, and her characters were fabulous.
