My Thoughts
Nicola May expertly weaves together threads of drama, emotion, and romance in this delightful story. I fell in love with Nicholas riding when I read “The Corner Shop in Cocklebery Bay”. This is the second book in this enchanting series, but it can without a doubt be read as a standalone. I thought Nicola did a really good job of refreshing our memories of the previous story. It was so nice to spend time with the characters of the previous book Rosa, Josh, Titch, and Hot in particular. It was also nice to revisit this charming small village and all of its quirky residence. I felt as though this book had a bit of a more serious tone to it, but I thought the issues were handled well. Having been married to an alcoholic it is a trigger for me. I have to admit I was disappointed in roses behavior in this book, but I do think addiction was handled realistically in the story.
Rosa and Josh are now married, but not as happily as you might think. Rosa is really struggling with the long-distance thing because Josh works in London and is not home every night. Roses insecurities and jealousy lead to her drinking excessively. Ugh this was hard to read about, I really liked Rosa, but she really did not handle this well… at all! Josh on the other hand I think handled things much better. I loved when he told her he couldn’t be with her until she liked herself… bravo! This was not the only thing going on in this book, we also get to read about Titch and her search for her baby daddy. Once again Hot(My favorite furry character) please an important part in the story and I love every minute we got to spend with him.🐾This was an engaging story that I without a doubt recommend!
