A Summer Escape and Strawberry Cake at the Cosy Kettle by Liz Eeles @lizeelesauthor @bookouture #bookreview #ASummerEscapeandStrawberryCakeattheCosyKettle

Happy Monday afternoon/Tuesday!

Excited and delighted to share with you my review for this charming story! Thanks to Noelle for my invitation to the tour!📚

My Thoughts

Liz Eeles has written a delectable story full of charm and whimsy. It was a lot of fun returning to the Cozy Kettle. Books and yummy delights, what more could you want? This is the second book in this sweet series, but it can absolutely be red as a standalone. In this book we do revisit characters from the first book and that was lots of fun, but you won’t be lost if you did not read that book. But why deny yourself? You can have a cherry tart and some strawberry cake. 😋

This book is about Flora and how she deals with the aftermath of catching her husband Malcolm in the arms of another woman. Flora is such a good person and Malcolm is such a slime (I did not like him in the first book). I definitely had no trouble rooting for her to kick him to the curb! That is not exactly what happens, but she does pack her bags and move herself to the charming village of Honeyford. Now that she is both working and living in this small village she forms a deeper connection with the community. Flora finds a place to live with Luna, her son Daniel and grandson Caleb. Luna was a great character a little magical, a little mystical, a little witchy. There is also a bit of a bookish Mystery involved, and that was fun! And I cannot forget the bake off, that was delicious! My only little complaint was the romance, I just didn’t necessarily feel it between Flora and Daniel. Not to mention Flora was a strong savvy woman and I don’t think she would get involved with another man so quickly. This is also just a personal preference for me I’d like to see a woman get back on her feet without the need of a man. Despite this I thought this was an absolutely charming read, the perfect book to add to your summer TBR.

About the Book

The Cosy Kettle café is the perfect place to escape this summer, for fans of Cathy Bramley, Jenny Colgan and Debbie Johnson. Guests can tuck in to fruit puddings and strawberry-studded ice cream, but for Flora, the warm summer breeze is blowing in big changes…

When Flora finds out about her husband’s secret fling, she escapes to the one place she feels safe: her beloved café, The Cosy Kettle, in the charming village of Honeyford. Serving up cream teas to her café regulars is the perfect way to soothe her broken heart, and although she’s never lived in the area, the little community welcome her with open arms.

She’s soon lodging with local eccentric Luna in her remote and beautiful Starlight Cottage, snuggled between rolling green hills. Luna’s handsome son Daniel lost his wife several years ago, and as Flora gets to know him, sharing walks through the blossom-scented woods, they both slowly begin to heal… and she realises that behind Daniel’s quiet exterior, there’s a passionate nature that makes her forget all about her ex-husband.

As she settles into her new life, hosting a baking competition for the village’s summer celebration seems like a great idea… but with Daniel’s mysterious silences leading Flora to believe he’s hiding secrets, she can’t help but wonder if she can really trust him. And when the race to bake the perfect Victoria sponge stirs up old rivalries between locals, Flora starts to feel

like she’s bitten off more than she can chew.

About the Author

Liz began her writing career as a journalist and press officer before deciding that she’d rather have the freedom of making things up as a novelist.

Being short-listed in the Corvus ‘Love at First Write’ competition and the Novelicious search for a new women’s fiction star gave Liz the push she needed to keep putting pen to paper …. and ‘Annie’s Holiday by the Sea’ (her first published novel) is the result.

Liz lives on the South Coast with her family and, when she’s not writing, likes to spend time walking by the sea, and trying to meditate. Her ambition is to be serene one day …. she’s still got a long way to go.

A family of Strangers by Emily Richards @harlequinbooks @tlcbooktours @harperaudio #bookreview #afamilyofstrangers

Happy Monday all!

Love this book and I’m excited to share my review with you today! A fantastic domestic thriller that had me absolutely riveted! Thanks Lisa for my invitation to this tour!🐚

My Thoughts

ᴍʏsᴛᴇʀʏ. ғᴀᴍɪʟʏ ᴅʀᴀᴍᴀ. ʀᴏᴍᴀɴᴄᴇ.

Emily Richards has crafted a clever and engaging domestic drama. This book sucked me in in the first few pages. There’s just something about Ryan that drew me in. Perhaps it was that she was a true crime podcaster? Or perhaps it was that she was a bit of an underdog? The younger sister to perfect big sis Wendy. As absorbing as the mystery was I think what I found most captivating about this book were the characters and the relationship Dynamics. My favorite of these being Ryan‘s relationship with her nieces Holly and Noelle (Guess what month they were born in). These little girls had obviously been damaged and Ryan was so committed to making their lives better. There also was a bit of a romance in this book, a second chance romance my favorite kind! The relationship between Ryan and Teo was so sweet I was really rooting for them to get back together. This book really had a dash of everything… a genre potpourri. A dollop of mystery, a dose of domestic drama, and a peppering of romance. The perfect recipe for an engaging and delightful summer read.

Ryan has always lived in her big sister Wendy’s shadow. So she is super surprised when Wendy calls her and asks a huge favor. Can Ryan go and take care of her two young children? It looks as though Wendy is suspected of murder. But how can this be? How can perfect Wendy be involved in murder? So Ryan packs her bags to go look after her nieces and uses her sleuthing skills to figure out what in the world is going on. The closer Ryan gets to her nieces and figuring out what Wendy’s hiding the more she realizes she really never knew her sister at all. “A Family of Strangers” was such an appropriate title for this book. I don’t think Ryan really ever understood the relationship between herself, her parents, and her sister, because there were so many secrets. This was my first book from Emily Richards but it definitely will not be my last. She has such a smooth engaging writing style that really made the 400 some odd pages of this book flyby.

🎧🎧🎧 Vanessa Johansson narrated the story brilliantly. She really brought the characters to life. This was a longer audio (14 hours) and I was completely engaged throughout thanks to the wonderful story and amazing narration.

About the Book

Could a lifetime of memories…be a lifetime of lies?

All her life, Ryan Gracey watched her perfect older sister from afar. Knowing she could never top Wendy’s achievements, she didn’t even try. Instead Ryan forged her own path while her family barely seemed to notice.

Now Wendy shares two little girls with her perfect husband, while Ryan mourns the man she lost after a nearly fatal mistake in judgment. The sisters’ choices have taken them in different directions, which is why Ryan is stunned when Wendy calls, begging for her help. There’s been a murder—and Wendy believes she’ll be wrongfully accused.

While Wendy lies low, Ryan moves back to their hometown to care for the nieces she hardly knows. The sleuthing skills she’s refined as a true-crime podcaster quickly rise to the surface as she digs for answers with the help of an unexpected ally. Yet the trail of clues Wendy’s left behind leads to nothing but questions. Blood may be thicker than water, but what does Ryan owe a sister who becomes more and more a stranger with every revelation?

Is Wendy, who always seemed so perfect, just a perfect liar—or worse?
