Hello book-lovers,

I’m so happy to be sharing my review for this wonderful, absolutely remarkable read!

Oh how I loved this book!

Why did you pick it up Vicci??

I’d seen it here and there all over BookTube and people seemed to be loving it, so I thought “what the Hell” and watched my new credit fly away….sob!

My Thoughts

How many times have you thought to yourself I wish I was famous? How many times have you thought that all of your troubles would go away if you were?

How about being famous by accident?

This story is being told by our main MC 23 year old April May, who while wandering through NYC one night spies something that she doesn’t remember seeing there before.
Being super quirky and arty, she does the only thing she can think of at this time in the morning, and excitedly calls her best friend Andy.

Andy isn’t too happy about being woken up at 3am, but of course he goes along to see what April May is so excited about, and when he gets there, so is he.

A huge statue has appeared in the middle of New York, and no-one seems to be paying it much attention, April May is astounded about how much work has gone into this statue, and there is no artist name attached to it to give any credit.

Andy has his own YouTube channel where he uploads random videos, the natural response is for them to make a silly video of this, so April “interviews” the statue, names him Carl, and Andy later uploads the video.

The next morning, it seems that the video has gone viral, and April May is hot-stuff due to there not being just one Carl, oh no, that one is just New York Carl, there are also Carl’s in cities all over the world, and it also seems that they all appeared at the same time, and Carl seems to be the name of choice, i.e Beijing Carl, Buenos Aires Carl, Tokyo Carl etc.

But April and Andy are the original Carl discoverers, and fame is instant for them.

April has to deal with fame with the whole world watching, and I really do mean the whole wide world!

Narrated by Kristen Sieh with a cameo by the author, who both did a fantastic job, I will definitely be looking out for book 2 and more by Kristen.

Until I was about 2 or 3 hours into this book I had no idea that Hank is the brother of the super duper famous John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars!

Comparing both authors is inevitable, but Hank held his own, and dare I say it, even manages for me to slightly outshine his brother **ducks the flying objects**

Happy Reading

About the book

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing
By: Hank Green

Length: 9 hrs and 25 mins
Release date: 25-09-18
Publisher: Orion Publishing Group

The Carls just appeared. Coming home from work at three a.m., 23-year-old April May stumbles across a giant sculpture. Delighted by its appearance and craftsmanship – like a 10-foot-tall Transformer wearing a suit of samurai armor – April and her friend Andy make a video with it, which Andy uploads to YouTube. The next day April wakes up to a viral video and a new life.

News quickly spreads that there are Carls in dozens of cities around the world – everywhere from Beijing to Buenos Aires – and April, as their first documentarian, finds herself at the centre of an intense international media spotlight. Now April has to deal with the pressure on her relationships, her identity, and her safety that this new position brings, all while being on the front lines of the quest to find out not just what the Carls are but what they want from us.

Compulsively entertaining and powerfully relevant, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing grapples with big themes, including how the social Internet is changing fame, rhetoric and radicalisation; how our culture deals with fear and uncertainty; and how vilification and adoration spring from the same dehumanisation that follows a life in the public eye.

The Dinner in the Sky by Anne John Ligali @AnneJohnLigali @rararesources #bookreview #thedinnerinthesky

Happy Saturday all!

Delighted to share with you today my review for this charming tale! Thanks so much Rachel for my invitation to the tour!🥂

The Dinner in the Sky

After a shocking confrontation with an unexpected encounter, Constance tries to piece her life back together and is on a mission to finally move on.

The thought of having her friends near is comforting as they take time out of their busy online lives and meet up at their favourite place, A Cupful of Dreams Café. Everyone seems happy enough until cracks begin to show and all is not as good as it seems. Constance tries desperately to keep positive as there’s so much to look forward to: shopping for posh frocks, dinner at The Shard and a movie premiere.

As things start to look rosy, a few odd tweets begin to pop up from nowhere. At first, they seem innocent, but as the weeks go by and premier night draws near, not only do the tweets increase but they become more obnoxious.

By the time Constance and her chums arrive on the red carpet, she’s determined to work out who the troll could be and to keep them from spoiling her evening. However as Constance soon learns, the troll wants to destroy far more than that!

Breathtaking views of London.

Posh frocks and Paparazzi

But there’s definitely trouble in the air …

My Thoughts

This is the third book in the Friendship Online series and I would strongly encourage you to read them all to get the full experience. Each book gets a little longer and each book has a little more substance to it. This might be my favorite of them all we really got to know Constance a lot better. We also got to know her adorable little boy Charlie who is on the autism spectrum. Charlie will definitely steal your heart in this book. Constance also finds herself in a bit of a love triangle. Who will she choose? There is also a sabotaging troll in this book that needs to be found before he/she ruins everything.

There is something just so delightful about this story and so engaging about these characters. Starting this book was like reacquainting with old friends and it brought back memories of being at the spa! I feel as though I’m being so vague in this review but I’m not sure what to reveal because I don’t want to ruin this series for anybody. Anybody else feel that way? It’s always hard to review books in a series other than the first one, because there’s something that ties you to the series that can’t be explained unless someone has read the other books. So I guess what I’m saying is pick up book one in this delightful series and get to know these amazing characters. Simply put this is a fun book full of charm and wit that will leave you with a smile on your face!
