Foxglove Farm by Christie Barlow @christiejbarlow @harperimpulse @rararesources #vookreview #foxglovefarm

Happy Sunday evening/Monday all!

It is July 1, where did June go? Excited to share with you today my review for this fun story! Thanks so much Rachel for my invitation to the tour!🐮

Foxglove Farm

Return to Love Heart Lane for friendship, romance and a community who will be be there for you no matter what…

Isla and Drew Allaway appear to have the perfect life – a strong marriage, two beautiful children and their picture-perfect home, Foxglove Farm.

But, new mum Isla is struggling. She loves her little family but with Drew working all hours on the farm, Isla’s lonely.

When she discovers that Drew has been keeping secrets from her, Isla has to face losing the home they all love.

Can the Love Heart Lane community pull together once more to help save Foxglove Farm? And can Isla save her home…and her marriage?

My Thoughts

First of all I want a baby alpaca! Such a heartwarming and heartbreaking story A real and raw look at marriage. I am such a sucker for a small town story especially when it’s set in the UK! This is the second book in the Love Heart Lane series and it was absolutely full of heart! Christie Barlow has a way of making her characters pop off the pages. She completely draws you in with her words and won’t let you go until the final page of the book. By the end of the book I felt as though I was friends with these characters and had visited this small charming Scottish village. This book can be read as a standalone, but why would you deprive yourself of the first book?

Isla and Drew have the perfect life, a strong marriage, beautiful children, a lovely home… or do they? Isla is starting to feel overworked and under appreciated by husband Drew. Isla is lonely and struggling with the long days alone taking care of baby and the distance between Drew and her. When she realizes that Drew has been keeping things from her how will she regroup and begin to rebuild her marriage? This book Addressed some pretty serious issues and did it with a gentle and loving hand. It was refreshing to read a book about a real couple facing real problems. Also love the sense of community in the story, so many amazing characters banning together to help out each other. A truly lovely story, the perfect addition to your summer reading!

*** Big thanks to Harper Impulse for my copy of this book ***

The Body in Belair Park by Alice Castle @DDsDiary @rararesources #bookreview #giveaway

Happy Saturday all!

Excited to share with you today my review for this delightful book. Another wonderful installment in this amazing series! Thanks Rachel for my invitation to the tour!💜

The Body in Belair Park

Beth Haldane is on the verge of having everything she’s ever wanted. Her son is starting secondary school, her personal life seems to have settled down – even her pets are getting on. But then the phone rings.

It’s Beth’s high maintenance mother, Wendy, with terrible news. Her bridge partner, Alfie Pole, has died suddenly. While Beth, and most of Dulwich, is convinced that Alfie has pegged out from exhaustion, thanks to playing with Wendy for years, Beth’s mother is certain that there is foul play afoot.

Before she knows it, Beth is plunged into her most complicated mystery yet, involving the Dulwich Bridge Club, allotment holders, the Dulwich Open Garden set and, of course, her long-suffering boyfriend, Metropolitan Police Detective Inspector Harry York. The case stirs up old wounds which are much closer to home than Beth would like. Can she come up trumps in time to stop the culprit striking again – or does the murderer hold the winning hand this time?

My Thoughts

Lιƙҽ α Ⴆɾιԃɠҽ σʋҽɾ ƚɾσυႦʅҽԃ ɯαƚҽɾ I ɯιʅʅ ʅαყ ɱҽ ԃσɯɳ

Alice Castle has written another clever, quirky, and fun book in the London Murder Mystery series. This is book six and it is just as fresh and engaging as the first book in the series. Picking up this book was so enjoyable it was like visiting old friends. Beth thinks she’s got it all together. Her son is going to A prestigious secondary school, her love life is mostly on track, and she hasn’t run into any dead bodies in at least three days. SO when she hears her mothers ringtone “a bridge over troubled water“ she is less than enthusiastic to answer the phone and rightly so. Her mothers bridge partner Alfie has drop dead and Wendy is convinced there is foul play at work. Just like the rules of bridge or the English school system to an American this case is complicated! And once again Beth finds herself donning her detective hat.

Beth is such a real and relatable character, I really enjoy spending time with her in these books. I also really enjoy the setting and the residence of Dulwich. I really love how all the mysteries in this series have a bit of a deeper story behind them, it adds a little extra something to this entire series. My only tiny complaint is I think this book got a little bogged down with the rules of bridge in the beginning. But that could just be because I cannot figure that game out for the life of me. Another thing that confounds me is how different the English school system is to the American school system. I need to just sit down someday and completely look into it, I am so interested and yet I haven’t taken the time to do this as of yet. But I digress… we also get a bit of a glimpse into Beth’s past and the history of her relationship with her mother in particular in this book. I love how we get a better understanding of Beth and what makes her tick in each book. Beth is still with her dependable detective boyfriend Harry and once again I was craving just a little bit more of him in the book. Another brilliant installment in the series. It can definitely be read as a standalone, but I bet you can’t readjust one!

A Feast of Serendib by Mary Anne Mohanraj @mamohanraj @rararesources #cookbook #guestpost

Happy weekend everybody!

I am not much of a cook at all, but reading over this blurb and the authors introduction to Sri Lankan cooking, sure makes me want to be! It all sounds so different and delicious!👩🏻‍🍳

A Feast of Serendib

Dark roasted curry powder, a fine attention to the balance of salty-sour-sweet, wholesome red rice and toasted curry leaves, plenty of coconut milk and chili heat. These are the flavors of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka was a cross roads in the sea routes of the East. Three waves of colonization—Portuguese, Dutch and British—and the Chinese laborers who came with them, left their culinary imprint on Sri Lankan food. Sri Lankan cooking with its many vegetarian dishes gives testimony to the presence of a multi-ethnic and multi -religious population.

Everyday classics like beef smoore and Jaffna crab curry are joined by luxurious feast dishes, such as nargisi kofta and green mango curry, once served to King Kasyapa in his 5th century sky palace of Sigiriya.

Vegetable dishes include cashew curry, jackfruit curry, asparagus poriyal, tempered lentils, broccoli varai and lime-masala mushrooms. There are appetizers of chili-mango cashews, prawn lentil patties, fried mutton rolls, and ribbon tea sandwiches. Deviled chili eggs bring the heat, yet ginger-garlic chicken is mild enough for a small child. Desserts include Sir Lankan favorites:  love cake, mango fluff, milk toffee and vattalappam, a richly-spiced coconut custard.

In A Feast of Serendib, Mary Anne Mohanraj introduces her mother’s cooking and her own Americanizations, providing a wonderful introduction to Sri Lankan American cooking, straightforward enough for a beginner, and nuanced enough to capture the flavor of Sri Lankan cooking.

Intro to Sri Lankan Cooking

An Introduction to Sri Lankan Cuisine

I’m often asked what is characteristic of Sri Lankan food. The main distinctions are our use of dark-roasted curry powder across the island and goraka (a souring fruit, similar to tamarind) in Sinhalese cooking. You won’t find goraka in recipes here, though, as my Tamil family doesn’t use it.  Other characteristic elements include wholesome red rice, plenty of chili heat, curry leaves, lots of coconut milk and shredded coconut, a bit of pungent dried Maldive fish in many dishes, and usually a bit of tang (from tomato, vinegar, tamarind, or lime). We also eat a wide variety of fish, poultry and meat dishes, which I think is somewhat unusual in the region, give religious prohibitions, but can be traced to a long-standing multiethnic and multi-religious population.

I came to America when I was two years old, and so I never ate like a Sri Lankan would in Sri Lanka; for example, I had usually cereal for breakfast growing up in Connecticut. A typical Sri Lankan breakfast is some idli and sambar, or string hoppers and sothi, perhaps with paripoo (lentils). I grew up disliking lentils and have only recently learned to appreciate them, but most people in Sri Lanka eat lots of them regularly. If you were feeling fancier, you might make hoppers (but you’d have to plan that the night before). Uppuma is also a nice change, usually with some fish curry. I’ve gotten addicted to eating American pancakes with curry—the sweetness of the pancakes works really well with a spicy curry.

As a child, I would have often eaten a bologna sandwich for lunch, but in Sri Lanka, lunches are rice and curries, often eaten around 3 p.m., and dinners are the same, often eaten around 9 p.m. Generally we would serve plain white rice, a meat curry, and a vegetable curry. Appetizers and sides are usually saved for when guests or more family come over, although you’d likely keep containers of sambol or pickle around, for added flavor. Some of my American friends are surprised when I tell them that I had rice and curry for dinner every single night when I was growing up—what can I say? If your mother is an excellent cook, then you never get bored with it.

The fancier dishes, the hoppers and pittu and stringhoppers, the patties and cutlets, the milk toffees and rich cake—those were all saved for parties. Usually, we stuffed ourselves on the delectable appetizers (called short eats), but somehow always managed to find room for dinner and then dessert.

Note:  Sri Lankans eat with their right hand, not with utensils, generally. It takes a little practice to learn how to make a neat little ball of rice and curry with your fingers, but more than a few of my friends have learned how over the years. Note that many of our recipes use whole spices such as cardamom pods, cloves, and cinnamon, that are not meant to be bitten into – when you’re eating with your hands, it’s easy to pick out and avoid those as you have dinner. If you’re planning on eating with a fork, you may want to either grind those spices before adding them, use pre-ground versions (generally not as strongly-flavored, so you may want a bit more), or tie them into a bit of cheesecloth that you can fish out before serving (this works better for a more liquid curry).

The Summer of Sunshine and Margot by Susan Mallery @harlequinbooks @tlcbooktours @harperaudio #bookreview #thesummerofsunshineandmargot

Happy almost weekend!

Delighted to share with you today my review for this perfect summer read! Thank you so much Lisa for my invitation to the tour!☀️

My Thoughts

sᴜɴ. sᴀɴᴅ. ʙᴏᴏᴋ ɪɴ ʜᴀɴᴅ.

Susan Mallery has constructed a sunny lighthearted story perfect for the summertime. Two sisters, two men,two complicated romances. Margot and Sunshine are sisters with very different personalities, but very similar dreams. Margot is the serious sister, the planner. She is working as an etiquette coach when she meets Alec, The buttoned up son of her free spirited client Bianka. Sunshine is the wild sister. Always making the wrong decisions, always falling for the wrong man. Determined to get her life on the right track Sunshine fights her feelings as she begins to fall for The man she is working for. Oh life is so complicated, especially when it comes to matters of the heart! Can two sisters with a history of making the wrong decisions actually find real love? Predictable? Yes. But with romance it is more about the journey and the characters and Miss Mallery is a queen when it comes to writing stories that melt your heart! If you love the love, this is a MUST summer read!

🎧🎧🎧 Tanya Eby always gives her everything to the book she narrates. Her passion for narrating really shines through. She always does a remarkable job and this book was no exception! She definitely brought Sunshine and Margot to life through her narration of this book!

*** Big thanks to HQN and Harper Audio for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

The Baxter sisters come from a long line of women with disastrous luck in love. But this summer, Sunshine and Margot will turn disasters into destiny…

As an etiquette coach, Margot teaches her clients to fit in. But she’s never faced a client like Bianca, an aging movie star who gained fame—and notoriety—through a campaign of shock and awe. Schooling Bianca on the fine art of behaving like a proper diplomat’s wife requires intensive lessons, forcing Margot to move into the monastery turned mansion owned by the actress’s intensely private son. Like his incredible home, Alec’s stony exterior hides secret depths Margot would love to explore. But will he trust her enough to let her in?

Sunshine has always been the good-time sister, abandoning jobs to chase after guys who used her, then threw her away. No more. She refuses to be “that girl” again. This time, she’ll finish college, dedicate herself to her job as a nanny, and she 100 percent will not screw up her life again by falling for the wrong guy. Especially not the tempting single dad who also happens to be her boss.

Master storyteller Susan Mallery weaves threads of family drama, humor, romance and a wish-you-were-there setting into one of the most satisfying books of the year!

Until the end of the World by Sarah Lyons Flemming @SLyonsFleming @justjuliawhelan #Audiobookreview #PostApocalyptic

Hello book friends,

I’m super happy to bring you a review for a new series that I think is going to keep me busy for a while as I couldn’t tear myself away from it.

Sorry for being MIA for a while, Real Life bitch-slapped me in the face for a while and I kind of got stuck in a bit of a slump!

But I think I’m back and ready to make up some lost time (and reviews!)

Why did you pick it up Vicci?

Well, I saw lots of people talking about this book in a Facebook group that I am in, and you know how I don’t like to be left out of anything!!

23121237

Well, I have found myself a new series to binge, I can’t wait to read the next one in this series, I was on the edge of my seat for most of it.

A genre that I wouldn’t usually read was being banded around on a FB group that i am in, then I heard the narrator, Julia Whelan…..and I was invested.

I promptly bagged the who series on KU and upgraded the Audio’s for £3.47 each!!! what a bargain!

Told in the POV of Cassie, we see her in her home town of New York, there seems to be some sort of “flu” epidemic that is sweeping the city, so people are being quite cautious, but until she gets a call from her friend explaining that people are dying and there is no cure does she really start to worry.

Her friends tells her to get out of town immediately, so her and her friends try and do just that, except it turns out that the people that are dying from this epidemic, have not done being dead yet!

This was such a great story, I was so invested in all of the characters, and they were all brilliantly narrated by the awesome Julia Whelan, one of my favourite narrators, ho bought every one of them to life in my head.

This is not a gory book, there is a little gruesome talk, but nothing too bad, if you liked The Walking Dead then you will probably like this, as it is about a group of people trying to survive.

Try it, You never know, you might like it!!

Book 1 is only £2.49 on audio or free on KU, what have you got to lose?
Until the End of the World – Book 1

About the book

Until the End of the World
By: Sarah Lyons Fleming
Narrated by: Julia Whelan
Series: Until the End of the World, Book 1
Length: 13 hrs and 14 mins
Publisher: Podium Publishing

Cassie Forrest isn’t surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she’s been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died: she’s stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk.

Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too. This is difficult enough, but Cassie’s tag along ex-boyfriend and her friend’s bratty sister have a knack for making everything, even the apocalypse, more unpleasant.

When the two attract a threat as deadly as the undead to their safe haven, Cassie’s forced to see how far she’ll go to protect those she loves. And it’s a lot farther than she’d anticipated. This, coupled with Adrian’s distant voice on Safe Zone Radio and, of course, the living dead, threaten to put Cassie right back into the funk she just dragged herself out of. Survival’s great and all, especially when you have leather armor, good friends and home-brewed beer, but there’s something Cassie must do besides survive: tell Adrian she still loves him. And to do that, Cassie has to find faith that she’s stronger than she thinks, she’s still a crack shot and true love never dies.

Rouge by Richard Kirshenbaum @stmartinspress @macmillanaudio #bookreview #rouge

Happy Wednesday all!

Excited to share with you today my review for this wonderful book full of glitter, glamour, and tons of drama! Thank you so much Kelly for my invitation to the tour!💅🏻

My Thoughts

ɢʟᴀᴍᴏᴜʀ. ɢʟɪᴛᴢ. ᴅʀᴀᴍᴀ.

Richard Kirshenbaum has written an addictive fast-paced story packed with glitz, glamour, and an entire cosmetic case full of drama! Three strong, confident, ruthless women engage in the ultimate power struggle to become the queen of the beauty industry. The bulk of the story takes place in the 30s,40s, and 50s when it was very unusual for women to be major powers in the business world. Josephine, Constance, and CeeCee all break into the beauty Industry in very different ways. They all have secrets to hide and hurdles to jump. This book not only highlighted these ladies rise to the top, but the deep seeded rivalry between them. These women would stop at nothing to claw their way to the top and were NOT willing to share that top spot! All the drama and cattiness sure was fun to read about, but WOW how much easier would it have been if they could’ve all just got along! You know female solidarity!?! While I admired all these women’s tenacity, I didn’t always admire their methodology.

This book was not only entertaining, but it was also very informative. I liked all the little tidbits about how makeup evolve sprinkled throughout the story. There was also plenty of romance and scandal. These women did not leave boring lives, that is for sure! This was a fascinating fast-paced story that you’ll find completely engaging even if you are not into makeup or beauty. It really was about powerful women having to overcome societal expectations in order to succeed, and succeed they did!

🎧🎧🎧 Lauren Ezzo narrated the audio and did a stellar job! I really think she got the tone of these ladies voices spot on. She also did a really good job with Josephine’s Polish accent. Lauren made a great story even better!💄

*** Big thanks to St. Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

Like Swans of Fifth Avenue and Truman Capote’s Answered Prayers, Richard Kirshenbaum’s Rouge gives readers a rare front row seat into the world of high society and business through the rivalry of two beauty industry icons, by the master marketer and chronicler of the over-moneyed.

Rouge is a sexy, glamorous journey into the rivalry of the pioneers of powder, mascara and rouge.

This fast-paced novel examines the lives, loves, and sacrifices of the visionaries who invented the modern cosmetics industry: Josiah Herzenstein, born in a Polish Jewish Shtlel, the entrepreneur who transforms herself into a global style icon and the richest woman in the world, Josephine Herz; Constance Gardiner, her rival, the ultimate society woman who invents the door-to-door business and its female workforce but whose deepest secret threatens everything; CeeCee Lopez, the bi-racial beauty and founder of the first African American woman’s hair relaxer business, who overcomes prejudice and heartbreak to become her community’s first female millionaire. The cast of characters is rounded out by Mickey Heron, a dashing, sexy ladies’ man whose cosmetics business is founded in a Hollywood brothel. All are bound in a struggle to be number one, doing anything to get there…including murder.

The Dream House by Jess Ryder @jessryderauthor @bookouture #bookreview #thedreamhouse

Happy Wednesday everybody!

Excited to share with you today my review for this engaging domestic thriller! Many thanks to Noelle for my invitation to this tour!🦊

My Thoughts

What happens when your dream house turns into a nightmare! Jess Ryder has cleverly constructed an addictive domestic thriller. Stella has just moved to her dream house with her boyfriend Jack. The house is in need of a lot of work, but Stella can see its potential and has fallen head over heels in love with this home. Then one night there is a knock at the door, Who can possibly be at the door in the middle of the night? It is a strange woman Lori, battered and beaten and in need of a safe place. Lori tell Stella and Jack that she was told this house was a refuge for battered women. Stella is sympathetic and wants to help a girl out… Jack is suspicious. 40 years earlier teen mom Kay thinks she has found her knight in shining armor. But after a while the Knight’s armor starts to tarnish. So much that Kay and her daughter Abby‘s lives might be in danger. Two women living four decades apart, what ties them together?

I am such a sucker for a dual timeline story! I love trying to puzzle together how two seemingly separate Narratives are connected. Both Stella and Kay were likable sympathetic characters. The men in their lives, not so much. I was completely engaged by both stories, although I think I was a little more invested in Stella. The house renovating and this uninvited guest. The story was puzzle together at a perfect pace. I did see a few things coming, but certainly not all. And there was such an obvious connection that I completely missed! Another compelling read from Jess Ryder.

*** Big thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

It’s everything she’s ever wanted…

When I first set eyes on Westhill House with its breath-taking views of the sea I knew Jack and I could make this our forever home.

It may be falling apart with an overgrown garden, but with some tender loving care, we can repair this beautiful building and perhaps our relationship too…

But the more time I spend renovating our new house, the more time Jack is spending at work.

At least Lori is here to keep me company.

She has her own troubles yet she always listens to mine.

She’s helping to restore the house, uncovering its secrets one by one.

Like the children’s drawings under the wallpaper in the back bedroom.

The hidden papers underneath the floorboards in the turret room.

And the fact that Westhill House is a place women used to go to feel safe…

Lori seems to know a lot about Westhill House.

The question is, why?

Ashes in a Coconut by Bo Kearns @suzyapbooktours #bookreview #ashesinacoconut

Happy Tuesday everybody!

Today I have a review for a romantic suspense story with a beautiful setting! Thank you so much Suzy my invitation to this tour! 🥥

My Thoughts

Bo Kearns has written a delightfully unique romantic suspense novel. A complex relationship, a beautiful setting, and a splash of suspense. What more could you want? The book opens up with Jack and Laura a married couple vacationing in Bali. But as we all know life is not a full-time vacation. When real life resumes Laura finds herself quitting her job and moving to Indonesia with Jack who has been offered a banking job. Laura is determined to get her marriage back on track, but the banking business in 1980s Indonesia is a bit shady. Indonesia is much darker than the bright sunshine would imply.

This was a quick read that packed a big punch! The setting of Indonesia was so original and exotic, I don’t believe I’ve ever read a book set in Indonesia before. The descriptive writing really brought this unique setting to life. Laura was a likable and sympathetic character that I was definitely rooting for. I was so happy to see her find something of her own in Indonesia away from the stress of her marriage. The tidbits of information sprinkled throughout the story about the banking industry in 1980s Indonesia gave the book a little bit of a historical vibe. The story had some definite twists and turns and an ending that left me satisfied. The perfect book to add to your summer TBR!

*** many thanks to the author for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

To save her marriage, Laura Harrison accompanies her husband Jack to Indonesia where he is to take over as president of troubled bank; but when her premonitions become reality, events spin out of control. Laura expects their new home in Jakarta to be a romantic hideaway like something out of a classic Bogart movie. Instead she walks into a house of horrors. White sheets cover Gothic furnishings, and black garments hang in the closets. It’s as if the former occupants had fled from some danger. Despite feelings of doom, Laura is determined to make things work. At the local market she’s appalled to see a baby orangutan for sale, its mother having been killer by loggers. She resolves to save the endangered primates and their rainforest habitat. As Laura attempts to grow closer to her husband, they become at odds over his shady business dealings. And when his secrets and life of lies are revealed, Laura finds herself alone and responsible for her own destiny.

Did you miss me? Did you even notice I was gone? I took a mini blog break over the weekend and I am feeling refreshed! Excited to share with you today my review for this entertaining fast-paced story that made me grateful that I am not married! Thank you so much Lisa for my invitation to this tour!🖤

My Thoughts

ᴇɴᴛᴇʀᴛᴀɪɴɪɴɢ. ᴀᴅᴅɪᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ. ғᴀsᴛ-ᴘᴀᴄᴇᴅ.

Victoria Helen Stone has crafted an entertaining fast-paced Addictive story. Johnny and Veronica were college sweethearts the perfect couple. BUT as all avid thriller Readers know… no couple is perfect and this one wasn’t even close! So many secrets, so many lies, all that threaten to come out when Johnny earns hero status after rescuing a young boy. SO even though Johnny’s newfound status leads to an increase in Business for his personal training, it also puts this family in a vulnerable position. What happens when you can’t hide from the truth anymore? When all it takes is one falls step? And all the lies and secrets will come crumbling down?

Where to start with this one? Well first off I disliked all the major characters in this book. None of them had many if any redeeming qualities and they all had a lot to hide. I did however have compassion for Johnny and Veronica’s 11-year-old daughter Sydney, the poor girl was caught in the crossfire of all this nonsense. I also had a lot of sympathy for Veronica‘s mother, sister and her sisters wife. Innocent bystanders… I seriously do not think Johnny or Veronica considered how any of their actions impacted anyone but themselves? At times I have to admit this did get frustrating and a little tiring, but then something would happen and I was just hooked! Miss Stone definitely has an addictive writing style that kept me engaged the entire time. I figured out the who and the Y pretty early I just didn’t completely no the how. However this did not detract from the story at all, because at the end I was seriously on the edge of my seat just waiting to see how this all was going to play out! Sometimes it’s not all about the twist, it is about the getting there! If you’re looking for a quick absorbing thriller then this is the book!

About the Book

SYNOPSIS:

Stay calm, keep smiling, and watch your step. In this marriage of secrets and lies, nothing is what it seems.

For days, all of Denver, Colorado, has worried over the fate of a missing child, little Tanner Holcomb. Then, a miracle: handsome, athletic Johnny Bradley finds him, frightened but unharmed, on a hiking trail miles from his wealthy family’s mountain home.

In a heartbeat, his rescuer goes from financially strapped fitness trainer to celebrated hero. The heat of the spotlight may prove too much for Johnny’s picture-perfect family, however. His wife, Veronica, despises the pressure of the sudden fame, afraid that secrets and bitter resentments of her marriage may come to light. And she’s willing to do anything to keep them hidden.

But when a shocking revelation exposes an even darker side to Tanner’s disappearance, Veronica realizes that nothing in her life can be trusted. And everything should be feared.

To the Stars and Back by Camilla Isley @camillaisley @rararesources #bookreview #tothestarsandback

TGIF!!!

I have the perfect weekend read for you today! This was such a fun lighthearted story with some pretty darn fabulous characters! Thanks Rachel for my invitation to this tour!💫

To the Stars and Back

When Hollywood’s sexiest bachelor meets the girl next door their relationship doesn’t follow the script…

On-screen, Christian Slade is America’s favorite heartthrob. Off-screen, letting romance into his life isn’t as easy. The women he dates all seem to want a piece of his glamorous life rather than his heart, and trust doesn’t come easy for him.

Then along comes Lana. A beautiful rocket scientist who’s also sweet, smart, sexy, and has absolutely no idea who he is. But what will happen when she finds out?

Will their worlds prove too far apart or could love really be like in the movies?

My Thoughts

This was a fun, cute, entertaining story! This is the fourth book in Camilla Isley’s “First Comes Love” series. I have only read the third book prior to this one and I don’t think that impacted my enjoyment of the story. There are some appearances from previous characters but the stories are self contained. Christian and Lana have a meet cute when they are both hiding out in a hotel closet. Christian who has appeared in previous books is a big time movie star and quite swoon worthy! Lana is a “rocket scientist“ smart and sweet with no knowledge of Christian and his star power. I’m sure you know where this is going, but as in all good romances it’s not the destination it’s the journey! And this was a lot of fun!

The characters in this series are so much fun, so relatable, the kind of people you’d love to meet. I really liked Christian and Lana together they had a definite connection. Made me think though what I want to date a famous movie star? I think in my youth I probably would have and been so insecure it would have driven me insane. Now that I’m older and much more confident I don’t think I’d want to be part of that kind of lifestyle. Fortunately for us all I have never had to make this decision, no movie star is knocking down my door, maybe I need to jump in a hotel closet? An engaging story perfect for a lazy summer afternoon of reading!
