Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid @tjenkinsreid #AudiobookReview

Hi Book friends,

I wanted to give you this review for a short and sweet story by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Why did you pick it up Vicci? – Well Taylor Jenkins Reid has written 2 of the most gorgeous books, both of which I have placed lovingly on my 6 Star Goodreads shelf, so naturally I’m going to devour everything she has ever written now!

My Thoughts

This book is super short – under 200 pages! But is is crammed full of content.

Told in letter form, this is the story about Carrie and David.

In 1976, David receives a letter from Carrie shattering his illusion, hers has already been shattered, you see Carrie’s husband has been having an affair, and it looks like the person he is secretly seeing is Davids wife!

Carrie and David have never met, they live hundreds of miles away from each other, but Carrie feels that it is her duty to make David aware of the situation.

I loved this story, it was so well told, and I love the fact that Taylor Jenkins Reid gives a bit of a nod to Daisy Jones in this book (her next bestseller)

Because it is told in letter form between Carrie and David we obviously only know what we have been told, other things that have happened you have to piece together.

🎧🎧 – Expertly narrated by  Julia Whelan, George Newbern and James Daniels, this was a fab little audiobook to zip through in just over an hour.

The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon @NicolaYoon @LLAudiobooks @TheRealBahniT @PRHAudio #RaymondLee #DominicHoffman #AudiobookReview

Hello book lovers,

Happy to bring you this review for a book that has been out for quite a while, but still worth a read.

Why did you pick it up Vicci? – Well 1. it was an Audible Daily deal, 2. I loved Everything Everything which was the authors previous book, and 3. Bahni Turpin, as I’ve said before she is an instant 1 click for me, so this one was a special bonus.

My Thoughts

I love a YA love story, yes they can be a little Insta-love, but they are great, you can get lost in a fabulous book for a few hours, and when you look up, all is right with the world!

This story is about a girl called Natasha, who is basically living in NYC illegally, her parents moved to America from Jamaica and never returned, they have been working, but a silly mistake by her father has now brought the authorities aware of their situation and the family are now being deported back to Jamaica.

Natasha is obviously very upset by this, she came to America when she was very young so she thinks of it as home, she has never even been to Jamaica and has no desire to go there again, her school and friends are here, and she is looking forward to going to college, so she finds the one person that she thinks may be able to help her stay, a lawyer.

Daniel is our other MC in this book, he is a Korean American boy, who is legal. His parents moved to the US many years before he was born. His parents are very strict and like him to be as Korean as he can.

Daniel is about to go for an interview for a place in Yale, somewhere he doesn’t particularly want to go, but his parents (mainly his father) have pushed him into it, Daniel wants to be a poet.

A ‘meet-cute’ happens, and the two meet and decide to spend the day together, Daniel does not know about Natasha’s situation.

I loved the fact that this was not only told in dual POV, but it also goes into the background of some of the other characters so that you can see why they are the way that they are (if that makes sense)

Because Natasha is Black and Daniel is Korean I loved the way that they explain their different cultures etc to each other, and that it wasn’t just fluffy ‘I love You’s’ in fact Natasha doesn’t believe in all that, she is a science geek, it is actually Daniel that is a hopeless romantic.

I LOVED the ending, it was done so perfectly, i’m not sure if I would have liked it any other way!

🎧🎧 – Narrated as always beautifully by Bahni Turpin with Raymond Lee and Dominic Hoffman who are 2 new narrators for me, but made this book sound so good.

This is also a new movie, being released in May 2019.

Natasha

I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is 12 hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel

I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store – for both of us.

The Universe

Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

The Worth of a Penny by Jess B Moore @authorjessb @rararesources #bookreview #theworthofapenny

Happy Monday bibliophiles!

Excited to share with you today my review of this beautiful book! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and to Jess B Moore for her exquisite words!💕

The Worth of a Penny

Sweetheart Penelope Davies is what her daddy calls gullible, right after he told her she was stupid and worthless. With her cheek red from being slapped by him, and her heart trampled by a worthless boyfriend, she packs up and follows her half-brother to Fox River, North Carolina, in need of a fresh start.

Dominic MacKenna is the youngest of five brothers, the friendly one with a killer smile and easy laugh. His brothers are all grown up, and one by one they’re flying the nest, leaving him out of sorts and unsure of his place. Who is he if not the youngest MacKenna?

Penny falls in with the MacKenna brothers, welcomed in as family, and offered the kind of love and support she never knew existed. With a new job and a lot of determination, she is finding out what she’s capable of. The last thing she needs now is to fall in love with the most notorious flirt in town.

Dominic falls for the sweet strong girl with a penchant for random facts and quirky homemade dresses. All he wants is to show Penny how wonderful she is, how smart and funny, and how desired and loved—even if he has to do it as her friend.

My Thoughts

A beautifully told intimate story about love. This is the type of story you don’t just read you live! You take every breath and feel every emotion with these characters. A definite character driven story that will worm its way into your heart. Jess B Moore has a special talent of creating characters that pop off the pages!

Penny has not had the greatest of upbringings and her confidence is shattered. In need of a fresh start she moves to Fox River with her stepbrother. There she gets a new job, a new start, and a new family. The problem is the family that has taken her in is Dominic Makenna’s family. Dominic is that friendly guy with a sweet smile, the kind of guy you try to avoid falling in love with. Dominic however is determined to prove to Penny that he is worthy.

There is so much emotion packed in this story and I completely fell in love with these characters. I was seriously ready to pack my bags and head to North Carolina and join the Makenna clan. Penny was tremendously likable and Dominic… well I may have fallen a little in love with him myself!

Jess B Moore is a must read author if you love the love! She writes romances with tremendous depth and amazing heart!

Author Bio –

Jess B Moore is a writer of love stories. When she’s not writing, she’s busy mothering her talented and stubborn children, reading obscene numbers of books, and knitting scarves she’ll likely never finish.

Jess lives in small town North Carolina with her bluegrass obsessed family. She takes too many pictures of her cats, thinking the Internet loves them as much as she does. She is a firm believer of swapping stories over coffee or wine, and that there should always be dark chocolate involved.

Her novels combine her interests in family, music, and small towns into thoughtful tales of growing up and falling in love.
