The Boy at the Door by Alex Dahl @Hoz_Books @alexdahlauthor #lovebooksgroup #bookreview

Happy Thursday book lovers!

Thrilled to share my review with you or this compelling thriller! I am always eager to read books set in Norway because I am half Norwegian, however I have never been there, maybe someday?!? A huge thank you to Kelly for my invitation to the tour and to Alex Dahl for this compelling book!🇳🇴

THE BOY AT THE DOOR:

Everyone has secrets. Even those who seem to be perfect…

On a rainy October evening, Cecilia Wilborg – loving wife, devoted mother, tennis club regular – is waiting for her kids to finish their swimming lesson. It’s been a long day. She can almost taste the crisp, cold glass of Chablis she’ll pour for herself once the girls are tucked up in bed.

But what Cecilia doesn’t know, is that this is the last time life will feel normal. Tonight she’ll be asked to drop a little boy home, a simple favour that will threaten to expose her deepest, darkest secret…

My Thoughts

A captivating character driven thriller filled with plenty of secrets and deceit!

Oh boy! I love a well-developed multi dimensional character that you love to hate! Cecelia was just that and more… she was a total bitch and the girl owned it! Such a complex character and such a complicated story… A multi layered tale that made my head spin and my jaw drop open as the layers began to fall away… Alex Dahl has crafted together one heck of an entertaining debut!

Sicilia has it all, the house, the kids, the husband, the clothes, the attitude…. but as we all know when something appears to be too good to be true, it probably is… One day when she is picking her daughters up from swimming lessons, there is a little boy who has been forgotten… cecelia is asked if she can take him home, and she begrudgingly agrees…. BUT when they arrive at the little boy’s home it appears to be abandoned and in ill repair… with no other choice Cecelia takes the littl boy Tobias home with her and so the story begins…. admittedly at this point I was thinking, I don’t think I would have agreed to take this little boy home and I am much nicer than Sicilia… not to mention I can’t imagine anyone would release the child to someone without parental permission, but this is Norway, maybe things are different? Then Cecelia takes the boy home with her? I was really thinking hmmm…. but at the end of the day this book was so entertaining and captivating, that I didn’t care if it was plausible or not….

this book sucked me in, I had to know what was up with this little boy… told from the alternating perspectives of Sicilia and Tobias… this book was filled with twists and turns, secrets and assumptions, and an ending that left me reeling! Recommend to any and all thriller lovers!

*** many thanks too Head of Zeus for my copy of this book ***

The Scott Family Short Stories by Amanda Paull @Apaullfiction @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Thursday book lovers!

Most of you know I love me a good romcom and with this series of short stories I got three! These little gems are the perfect afternoon pick me up! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and to Amanda Paull for her wonderful whimsical words!💎💎💎

My Thoughts

Such a fun filled laugh out loud series of three short stories!

This delightful short story series is a definite pick me up, a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day! Sweet short stories that will put a huge smile on your face! Romantic comedy at its absolute best!

All three of these stories feature Laura and Ben and they’re blooming romance…. they also feature Laura’s crazy irreverent family… The Scott family made for a good story, however I’m not sure I’d want to be in Laura‘s position and take someone home to meet them…. The Scott family will make you both laugh and cringe…. these entertaining short stories are the perfect way to spend the afternoon, my only complaint is they weren’t long enough!

Dance lessons, a poodle, and posh marshmallows all make for one engaging read! Recommend!

Let’s Dance (Scott Family Short Stories, Book 1)

She’s helping out a friend. His dad’s hip’s gone. Could a farcical mix-up lead to love?

Ballroom dancing is the last thing Laura wants to try. But her best friend is desperate to meet a hip-swinging Adonis, so before she knows it, Laura is cha cha cha-ing in the back of the Dog and Duck with nerdy Ben. At least no one else need ever find out. No such luck. Her mother is armed with a social media page and dangerous. The shenanigans begin. What a pity Ben’s now looking rather dapper. Will he scarper? Or is Ben made of sterner stuff?
If you like innocent, laugh-out-loud family mayhem, you’ll love Let’s Dance, the first Scott Family.

The Second Wife by Sheryl Browne @SherylBrowne @bookouture #bookreview

Happy hump day book lovers!

I have no idea how it is already January 30? Where did January go? Time sure flies when you’re always behind! Anyways I am so excited to share with you today my review for this dark twisted thriller! A huge thank you to Kim for my invitation to this tour and two Sheryl Browne for blowing my mind!🤯

She made her bed. You’ll lie in it.

Rebecca only wanted to help out – to be kind. Richard seemed so alone after his wife, Nicole, died, and Rebecca wanted to make sure he knew he had someone to rely on.

But now she’s in Nicole’s immaculate house. Drinking from her favourite crystal wine glass. Keeping shoes in her orderly closet. Comforting her sweet and grieving step-daughter. It feels like Rebecca is living another woman’s life.

And as she gets to know the neighbours, Rebecca hears stories that make her wonder: was free-spirited Nicole happy in this perfect life, or did she feel trapped? Did she feel, as Rebecca is beginning to, that something wasn’t quite right?

The book everyone’s talking about! If you loved The Girl on the TrainThe Wife Between Us and The Girl Before, you’ll be totally gripped and unable to put down this twisty page-turning psychological thriller.

My Thoughts

YES! This was a riveting dark and twisted thriller that completely captivated me!

Sheryl Browne, you seriously blew my mind with this one! This book was darker, twistier, steamier, and more disturbing… hands-down my favorite book from this author thus far! Hold onto your hats and glasses for this one, it is a crazy ride!

Nicole and Rebecca are best friends, they share everything, but I bet they never thought they would share a husband! Nicole is still dealing with her past abusive marriage, even when she is married to the seemingly fabulous Richard… Nicole confesses everything to her BFF Rebecca, she tells her all about her loving husband and how happy they are… SO when Rebecca finds out that Nicole has committed suicide, she is determined to figure out what has really happened… Rebecca meets Richard and is instantly charmed, and before she knows it she has moved into her BFFs house and life… I know what you’re thinking… what? What kind of friend moves in on her deceased Bestie’s husband? Well apparently Rebecca, and I have to say I think this is all kinds of wrong, so shady, but still somehow I liked Rebecca?

The story is told from multiple points of view, and from both the present and the past…. we learn the truth of Nicole and Richard‘s marriage as the layers are slowly peeled away through Nicole’s eyes… we also get the present day story through the eyes of Rebecca, Olivia, and even Richard…. Olivia is richer’s 19-year-old daughter, the girl seriously disturbed me throughout this entire book… this was one strange father daughter dynamic! I really liked both Rebecca and Nicole, I was really conflicted sometimes because I didn’t necessarily agree with their actions, but I really found them both quite likable…. Richard, I am admittedly a bit of a man hater, so I was suspicious of him from page 1… * just to clarify I love my sons, my dad, my brothers, but I really have bad taste in men, so I’m not crazy about anyone that I previously had a relationship with! I’m a little jaded!* so what in the world is going on? Is Richard really a good guy or is it all an act? Is Olivia just a spoiled brat or pure evil? And what in the world is Nicole doing? At about 60% this book goes off the rails, starts zigging and zagging and bobbing and weaving… I had no idea what side was up? Oh what a dark disturbing deceitful journey this book took me on!

This was an intriguing, disturbing, dark, deceitful, twisted, and brilliant book! Absolutely recommend!

The Line Between by Tosca Lee @ToscaLee @HowardBooks #bookbestieslinebetween #bookreview

Happy Tuesday bibliophiles!

Excited to share with you my review for this exciting book! This is not my normal genre I guess this would be called pre-apocalyptic fiction? Is there such a thing as this? Anyways it was quite the thrilling story and I am so happy to have read it! This was a group read With my Besties and we all thoroughly enjoyed it!🖤

The Line Between by Tosca Lee

My Thoughts

Wowza this was quite the unexpected gem of a pre-apocalyptic story!

This is not my usual reading genre, but boil boy this book sucked me in from the very first page! Tosca Lee thread together a remarkable story… an intense pre-apocalyptic story laced with a generous amount of thrills and romance… this is such a well written book that I think will appeal to a wide audience of readers!

Wynter grew up in the compound of the New Earth doomsday post apocalyptic cult… as she grew up she began to question things including the teachings of the leader of the cult Magnus… this leads to her eventually being cast out, only to find that the outside world is going a bit mad…. there is an epidemic sweeping the US the spreading of early onset dementia, and there appears to be no cure in sight…. when Wynter’s sister shows up at her door with a case filled with vials of a potential cure… Wynter soon finds herself on the road to Colorado with the possible fate of the world in her hands…..

Wynter was so smart and so strong and yet she had such a naïveté to her… she is one of those characters that will get under your skin and who you won’t soon forget, there was just something so beautiful and comforting about her inner strength… for some reason I never doubted that this girl who grew up extremely sheltered could manage to make it from Chicago to Colorado in dire circumstances…. admittedly though it was very fortunate that she ran across X military XMMA fighter Chase along the way… Chase was another strong smart character who definitely reassured me… The strength and charisma of these characters really set the tone for the story and I think that’s what I really was drawn to… I felt as though the thread running throughout the story was that of hope rather than doom… this book was uplifting rather than depressing, and that’s not something I often find in books of this genre… add in a plot that will keep you riveted and a sprinkling of romance… and you’ve got yourself one stellar story!

An addictive pre-apocalyptic thriller full of some pretty amazing characters and a generous peppering of hope! Absolutely recommend!

🎵🎵🎵 song running through my head! If you have read this book you will know why I chose this one, this was a song that ran through Wynter’s head…

There’s somethin’ wrong with the world today

I don’t know what it is

Something’s wrong with our eyes

We’re seein’ things in a different way

And God knows it ain’t his

It sure ain’t no surprise

Livin’ on the edge

Livin’ on the edge

Livin’ on the edge

There’s somethin’ wrong with the world today

The light bulb’s gettin dim

By the color of his skin

Then mister you’re a better man than I

Livin’ on the edge

About the Book

In this frighteningly believable thriller from New York Times bestselling author Tosca Lee, an extinct disease re-emerges from the melting Alaskan permafrost to cause madness in its victims. For recent apocalyptic cult escapee Wynter Roth, it’s the end she’d always been told was coming.

When Wynter Roth is turned out of New Earth, a self-contained doomsday cult on the American prairie, she emerges into a world poised on the brink of madness as a mysterious outbreak of rapid early onset dementia spreads across the nation.

As Wynter struggles to start over in a world she’s been taught to regard as evil, she finds herself face-to-face with the apocalypse she’s feared all her life—until the night her sister shows up at her doorstep with a set of medical samples. That night, Wynter learns there’s something far more sinister at play and that these samples are key to understanding the disease.

Now, as the power grid fails and the nation descends into chaos, Wynter must find a way to get the samples to a lab in Colorado. Uncertain who to trust, she takes up with former military man Chase Miller, who has his own reasons for wanting to get close to the samples in her possession, and to Wynter herself.

Filled with action, conspiracy, romance, and questions of whom—and what—to believe, THE LINE BETWEEN is a high-octane story of survival and love in a world on the brink of madness.

Revenge on the Rye by Alice Castle @DDsDiary @rararesources #bookreview #giveaway

Hope you are having a wonderful day!

Excited to share with you today my review for this book that is part of an absolutely wonderful series! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and to Alice Castle for her wonderful words!💛

Revenge on the Rye

Beth Haldane, SE21’s answer to Miss Marple, thinks she is going for a carefree stroll on Peckham Rye with her best friend, Katie, and her annoying new puppy, Teddy. But before Beth knows it, she is embroiled in her most perplexing mystery yet.

Strange events from her family’s past, present-day skulduggery in the art world, and the pressures of moving school in south London threaten to overwhelm Beth. Will she be able to piece together the puzzle before her son’s crucial interview at Wyatt’s? Or will Beth’s insatiable curiosity finally drag down all her dreams for the future?

Join Beth, her irascible on-off boyfriend, Detective Inspector Harry York of the Metropolitan Police, and the dog walkers of Peckham Rye in a tale of murder, mayhem – and bloody revenge.

My Thoughts

An engaging and entertaining murder mystery filled with fun and fur!🐶

This series just keeps getting better and better! Although I do often wonder how Beth feels about running into so many dead bodies? This time she comes across a body while walking with her BFF Katie and puppy Teddy… I have to send a big S/O to Teddy he certainly added some shenanigans to the story!

Turns out the dead man is a renowned artist… was his death a coincidence or does it have to do with the shadier side of art? Well anyone who has read the series knows that Beth is determined to figure out… who done it! But Beth has quite a few things going on at home including trying to get her son into a proper school… I really someday just need to take a few hours to try to figure out the school system in England, I just don’t get it…. it is so different from the US, I think? I’m of the opinion that uppity preferred high schools are public rather than private? Am I right about this? Also do they wear uniforms to public school? They try that here, did not work very well…. OK back to the book!

My favorite part of these books is the characters, I love them all… and I was pleased to see a little more of Harry in this one! I also loved all the furry friends, yes even Teddy! The mystery was very much like a puzzle that needed to be pieced together… and I have to admit I did not see the culprit coming at all!

A well-crafted, wonderfully told mystery filled with fantastic characters, recommend!

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne @WMMorrowBooks @HarperAudio #bookreview #audiobooks

Happy Monday bibliophiles!

I am so excited to share with you my review for this wonderful book! An addictive emotional romance that is 100% fabulous!💕💕

  • 99 Percent Mine

  • A Novel
  • By: Sally Thorne
  • Narrated by: Jayme Mattler
  • Length: 11 hrs and 23 mins
  • Unabridged Audiobook
  • Release date: 01-29-19
  • Language: English
  • Publisher: HarperAudio

My Thoughts

An edgy emotional exquisite romance! This book was 100% eXCEPTIONAL!

Sally Thorne is such a wonderful storyteller! She has woven together an emotional story guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings! I absolutely loved “The Hating Game,“ and when I picked this up I was expecting the same fun funny banter I got in that book…. I did get the same outstanding banter, however this book is a little darker, a little edgier, and a lot more angsty… this book definitely put my heart through the ringer! I wouldn’t say this book is better or worse than THG it is just… different….. however what I loved about THG is absolutely in this book as well… wonderful storytelling, amazing well drawn characters, and fabulous dialogue!

Darcy returns home after her beloved grandmother passes away, leaving her house to her… The house is in need of some major renovation, so Darcy is going to stay in town until the paint dries and she is able to sell the house…. The girl has some major wanderlust and is just itching to get on that next plane headed to adventurous anywhere…. BUT one day she arrives home to find Tom on her front porch, and he is the contractor who has been hired to renovate the house… Tom is the only man who has ever really got a hold of Darcy’s heart, the problem… he is engaged and he is also her twin brothers BFF… to complicate things further Jamie, Darcy’s twin and her are not quite seeing eye to eye on this house renovation….

I do love the friends to lovers trope… and in this book it was done so cleverly end it was oh so complicated! The push and pull between Tom and Darcy was so compelling…. Darcy was a wonderful character, even though I didn’t warm up to her immediately… she was a little prickly and definitely has her guard up, but she was also snarky, smart, strong, and loyal… Tom, I have to admit in my younger days I would’ve found him a little boring or bland, but now that I’m older and no better he was a really nice guy that had a heart of gold, that any woman would be lucky to call their own… he really had very few rough edges, what you see is what you get with him, and what I saw in my mind I definitely liked! The chemistry between these two was off the charts, and when things heated up they hit the boiling point… my only little tiny complaint would be I would’ve liked a little more of these two in the past, maybe some more interaction between them when they were younger, so I could really see where all this angst and lust and longing and love was coming from….

An extremely well told romance, full of engaging characters, witty banter, and sizzling chemistry! Absolutely recommend!

🎧🎧🎧 this book was narrated by Jayme Mattler, she did an amazing job! What I love so much about audio is how much it really brings the characters to life, and Jayme really nailed it in this book! She was Darcy just as much as she was Tom….

🎵🎵🎵 song running through my head! Oh I love this song and it really expressed some of my frustration with these characters during this book!

“Say something, I’m giving up on you

I’ll be the one, if you want me to

Anywhere, I would’ve followed you

Say something, I’m giving up on you

And I am feeling so small

It was over my head

I know nothing at all

And I will stumble and fall

I’m still learning to love

Just starting to crawl

Say something, I’m giving up on you

I’m sorry that I couldn’t get to you

Anywhere, I would’ve followed you

Say something, I’m giving up on you

And I will swallow my pride

You’re the one that I love

And I’m…”

About the Book

Crush: a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach…

Darcy Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s travelled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with finding her dream man at age eight and peaking in her photography career at age twenty—ever since, she’s had to learn to settle for good enough.

When Darcy and Jamie inherit a tumble-down cottage from their grandmother, they’re left with strict instructions to bring it back to its former glory and sell the property. Darcy plans to be in an aisle seat halfway across the ocean as soon as the renovations start, but before she can cut and run, she finds a familiar face on her porch: house-flipper extraordinaire Tom’s arrived, he’s bearing power tools, and he’s single for the first time in almost a decade.

Suddenly Darcy’s considering sticking around to make sure her twin doesn’t ruin the cottage’s inherent magic with his penchant for grey and chrome. She’s definitely not staying because of her new business partner’s tight t-shirts, or that perfect face that’s inspiring her to pick up her camera again. Soon sparks are flying—and it’s not the faulty wiring. It turns out one percent of Tom’s heart might not be enough for Darcy anymore. This time around, she’s switching things up. She’s going to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers.

Have a wonderful day! Berit☀️✨

5 Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott @rchllipp #YoungAdult #Romance

Happy Sunday book lovers!

Excited to share with you today Vicci’s review for this interesting book, that will soon be in a theater near you!🎞🎬

About the Book

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Young Love Stars

Can you love someone you can never touch?

Stella Grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions.

The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.

Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment.

What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

My Thoughts

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Young Love Stars

So this never would have come up on my radar if I hadn’t seen a trailer for the new movie coming out.

This could have been the new TFIOS (The Fault in Our Stars) but it just fell short of that, not to say that it wasn’t a fab read, but it didn’t hit me as hard.

This is the story of Stella Grant, she has Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and has been struggling with the illness since she was born, she is currently in hospital, where all of the staff know her, considering she is in there so often.

Everything is sterile, and also in the right place, Stella is a little OCD with things, probably because that is the only thing that she can control.

Will however is not so OCD, he arrives on the CF ward and is not in control, he doesn’t take his meds when he is supposed to and doesn’t really take into consideration how ill he really is, especially as he has B.cepacia along with his CF (This rare disease could be fatal to someone with CF, just a simple touch can infect them)

Therefore the rules are, no touching, and you must be AT LEAST 6 feet apart!

So why does the book have the title of 5 feet you ask?

Well, this is a YA book after all, these guys take risks for love!

A few things did nag at me, I won’t spoil them here but if you read the book you will probably see them too, however it didn’t sway me from reading the book, and I will certainly be looking out for the movie and see what they do with it.

I really had no idea how devastating this disease really is, so I’m really pleased that the author has brought it to the attention of everyone that reads the book, and with a movie also coming out it will reach a lot further and teach a lot more people about CF.

A Fab YA Read
