The Blurb

Two years ago, Tom and Caroline Johnson chose to end their lives; one seemingly unable to live without the other. Their daughter Anna is struggling to come to terms with her parents’ deaths, unable to accept the verdict of suicide.

Now with a young baby herself, she feels her mother’s presence keenly and is determined to find out what really happened to her parents. But as Anna digs up the past, someone is trying to stop her.

Sometimes it’s safer to let things lie . . .

My Thoughts

I was excited to read this book as the authors other 2 books have been fantastic, and this one was no different.

Be prepared for a few twists to make you go “Wait…What?”

The story revolves around Anna and the death of her parents, she is grief stricken, not only because of the fact that she has lost her parents, but because of the way they died.

Two years ago, her father sent her mother a text saying “I can’t do this anymore” a few hours later his shoes, wallet and phone were found at the top of Beachy Head, and a witness called the police to say that he had jumped off of the cliff, 6 months later, her heartbroken mother did the same!

Now for you guys not living in the UK, you may not know what Beachy Head is, so here is a picture.

beachyhead02

Now although beautiful and a popular tourist attraction, Beachy Head is unfortunately more famous for being a popular suicide spot, you may have seen it featured in the 70’s movie Quadrophenia, that iconic last scene was Beachy Head!

From Wikipedia

“There are an estimated 20 deaths by suicide a year at Beachy Head. The Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team conducts regular day and evening patrols of the area in attempts to locate and stop potential jumpers.
Workers at the pub and taxi drivers are also on the look-out for people contemplating suicide, and there are posted signs with the telephone number of the Samaritans urging potential jumpers to call them”

Anna is now a new mother and her baby takes up most of her time, she and her partner Mark live together in Anna’s parents house, and apart from the obvious depression that Anna is suffering from, she is mostly coping quite well with life……Until the note!

“Suicide…think Again!”

A fabulous read that is bound to keep you on your toes, and the edge of your seat.

🎧🎧Narrated by Gemma Whelan, who is a new to me narrator, she did a great job with this story, and I was really impressed with her.

If you like twists and turns in a story, and you have a spare credit, you won’t go wrong with this one!!

The Uninvited by J.A. Baker @Thewriterjude @Bloodhoundbook #bookreview

Happy Monday book friends!

Excited today to share with you my review for this creepy book! Many thanks to Emma for my invitation to the tour and two J.A. Baker for this spine tingling story!👻

J.A. Baker - The Uninvited_coverA fragile woman. An unwelcome intruder. A house full of secrets.

Faye and her husband Hugh have had a traumatic year. Wanting to start again, the couple decide to buy a large rundown property, Cross House in a village in North Yorkshire, hoping to leave the past behind them.

However, the tranquility is soon ruined when Faye begins to awake, every night, to the sound of somebody creeping around the bedroom. She tries to explain it to Hugh, frightened for the safety of their children Aiden and Poppy, but Hugh dismisses her claims, thinking she is heading for another breakdown.

But when Faye discovers some diaries that contain secrets about the family that lived in the house before them, she starts to wonder if the intruder might be closer to home than she first thought.

Obsessed with finding answers, Faye is determined to learn about the Wentworth family, a fractured family with a tragic past.

And when she discovers that Hilary Wentworth fell to her death down the stairs in Cross House, Faye realises she is in mortal danger…

My Thoughts

This is a spine tingling compulsive Reid that will keep your nerves on edge…

This book kept me feeling uneasy throughout… A little bit ghost story, a little bit murder mystery, and a lot creepy! Can I just say if I were to wake up in the middle of the night and think someone was breathing over me and then I heard footsteps, i’d be saying, feet don’t fail me now!

Faye and Hugh moved to a new house for a fresh start… their new home is a big rambling house in need of some renovation… soon after moving in Faye begins to feel an unworldly presents… she feels someone breathing over her at night and then hears footsteps in the hall… at first her husband thinks she has gone crazy, but after he begins to since things as well he becomes a believer… so do they have a ghost? What is going on? After Fay finds some diaries, she learns that the former mistress of the house died in the house… but did she really fall down the steps, or was there something more sinister going on?

This was an addictive scary story that I almost finished in one sitting… it was seriously tents and definitely sped up the old heart rate! The entire book I was just thinking why don’t they just get the heck out of there, but I guess then we would’ve have had this wickedly warped story… a deliciously creepy Gothic ghost story with quite the twist…

Absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys a extremely well told story that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout!

*** huge thanks to Bloodhound Books for my copy of this book ***
