The Hollow of Fear by Sherry Thomas @BerkleyPub #6bookbestieshollowoffear #bookreview

Happy Halloween!

Thrilled to share with you today my review for the perfect October read! I must confess I’ve never read a Sherlock Holmes book, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this enchanting story! This was another fabulous read with my BOOK BESTIEs🕵🏻‍♀️

The Hollow of Fear by Sherry Thomas

My Thoughts

Peanut M&M’s

💛 read a book with a yellow cover

💛 read a book with a title that starts with the letter M

💛 read a book with the word ~and~ in the title

This was an atmospheric captivating story that made me want to say, “Elementary my dear Mrs. Watson.”

This is the third installment in the Lady Sherlock series… admittedly I was a little confused in the beginning, having not read the first two books in this Series… because from what I understand this book pics up where the previous book ends… eventually I got into the swing of it and was completely captivated, however I really would have appreciated it more had i more of the backstory…. I am such a character girl and Charlotte both baffled and intrigued me, I know I would have loved to get to know her better…. SO, I would strongly encourage you not to do what I did and start this book from the beginning!

This book had a little bit of everything murder, romance, secrets, family drama…. all set against the backdrop of Victorian England…. The tone and the language in the story really brought this period in history to life…. The book opens with Charlotte finding her illegitimate half brother, and there is a connection to Moriarty… The boy has something Moriarty Wants… The book goes forward from there… with the murder of Lady Ingram The wife of charlotte’s love interest…. Lord Ingram, of course is the primary suspect, so Charlotte takes it upon herself to solve the case… with Mrs. Watson by her side and in disguise as the brother of Sherlock Holmes Charlotte was an extraordinary and exceptional and maybe a little unconventional detective! I have to say my absolute favorite parts of this book were the interactions between Charlotte and Mrs. Watson, I also loved Charlotte in disguise, that was fabulous!

An engaging read that I’m sure any fan of this series will love… i’m hoping to read the first two books in the series before the next one comes out… and I’m pretty certain there will be a next one because it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger just called me Sherlock, or should I say just call me Charlotte!🔍

*** A big thank you to Berkley for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

Charlotte Holmes, Lady Sherlock, returns in the Victorian-set mystery series from the USA Today bestselling author of A Conspiracy in Belgravia and A Study in Scarlet Women, an NPR Best Book of 2016.

Under the cover of “Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective,” Charlotte Holmes puts her extraordinary powers of deduction to good use. Aided by the capable Mrs. Watson, Charlotte draws those in need to her and makes it her business to know what other people don’t.

Moriarty’s shadow looms large. First, Charlotte’s half brother disappears. Then, Lady Ingram, the estranged wife of Charlotte’s close friend Lord Ingram, turns up dead on his estate. And all signs point to Lord Ingram as the murderer.

With Scotland Yard closing in, Charlotte goes under disguise to seek out the truth. But uncovering the truth could mean getting too close to Lord Ingram—and a number of malevolent forces…

Trick or Treat!👻🎃

This is probably not the most appropriate book to post on Halloween, but it is a story sure to make you scream! With delight! Much more of a treat then a trick, this book is as sweet as Halloween candy!🙄

Many thanks to Kim for my invitation and to Jade Beer for her lovely words!🧡🖤

Promise-Me-KindleIf you could wish one thing for your daughter, what would it be?

Jenny lost her beloved mother as a teenager, and was left devastated. As a parting gift she left her daughter a bundle of letters, one for each significant day of Jenny’s future. First date, first broken heart, graduation day… and one for the day Jenny meets the love of her life.

Her mother’s letters are everything to her, but how can Jenny ever become the confident, successful woman her mother wanted her to be when her heart is broken by her loss? When an unexpected meeting has Jenny mistaken for somebody she’s not, Jenny learns that sometimes pretending is the easiest way to tell the truth and that loving someone can mean letting them go…

An absolutely unforgettable book club read that will break your heart. If you love Jojo Moyes, Cecelia Ahern and Nancy Thayer you will love this unputdownable page-turner.

My Thoughts

A festive and beautiful story filled with wedding bells and Christmas trees….

I absolutely loved Jade Beer’s first novel “The Almost Wife”…. so I was so delighted to see that this book featured some of the characters I had grown to adore in that book, Helen the owner of the wedding boutique and her daughter Betsy… Helen was an absolute stand out in the previous book, and she definitely did not disappoint in this one! She is The mother everyone deserves, and the mother who is not completely appreciated by her own daughter….

The blurb for this book is a bit missleading, the focus is not solely on Jenny but also on Helen, her daughter Betsy, and Nat… all these women bring something wonderful and different to the story… Helen brings her heart, Jenny brings her vulnerability, Betsy brings her confusion, and Nat brings her sass…. and what we get is a lovely and engaging read filled with romance, friendship, and laughter! You will cry for these girls… you will laugh with these girls… you will roll your eyes at these girls… you will want to reach through the pages and hug these girls… and by the end of this book you will adore each and every one of them!

Jade Beer paints this delightful story about women for women…. what I love so much is on the surface this appears to be about weddings, wedding dresses, wedding drama, etc. etc. etc. but at its heart this book is about women and how strong they are, and how smart they are, and how amazing the bond is between them…. just like a woman this book is pretty and soft on the outside, but on the inside it is fierce! A ferocious story in a fluffy package!

Absolutely recommend to anyone who is a fan of women’s fiction, this is an author not to miss!

Jade Beer author photoAbout me by Jade Beer:

Hello!
I’m Jade. I’m a novelist, mother to two young daughters and the editor of Conde Nast Brides.

I love writing about women and all the challenges we face in our daily lives. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some incredibly talented women throughout my career as a journalist and editor – ones who juggle the most all-encompassing careers with family and friendships and everything else that life throws at them. They often make it look so easy. But we all know it’s not. And that need to present one version of yourself to the world, while keeping the grittier, less polished reality under wraps, is a thread that runs strongly through my debut novel, The Almost Wife.

In my day job as the editor of Conde Nast Brides, I share my working life with editors of some of the glossiest, luxury brands in the world – Vogue, Tatler, Glamour – and I have the enormous priviledge of travelling the world and sitting front row at beautiful fashion shows and working with the world’s leading florists, cake makers and stylists. But I also take a daily peek into the lives of young women who are engulfed in one of the most exciting times of their lives – planning their wedding days. This, above everything else, is the really fun bit. Being on the front line if you like. Hearing their thoughts, fears, worries and ambitions for the future. This really powerful cocktail of glamour and reality dances across every page of The Almost Wife and is currently being poured into my second novel which is due out in October this year.

I’m not sure I could have written The Almost Wife without making it personal too, feeding some of my own quiet fears into the mix. I’ve sat in important meetings, dropping huge clangers that years later still make me cringe. I’ve got more than my fair share of self-doubt and suffer like many other women from the dreaded imposter syndrome. I worry constantly about my family. How much time I have left with them. Am I doing any of it right? Will I be riddled with regret in later years? Will my daughters be critical of the choices I made? Am I failing the people I love the most?

Although work places me full time in London, my heart is in the countryside where I live with my husband and our two daughters. The Cotswolds is where my husband and I used to spend romantic weekends plotting our future together long before children came along and is now where I watch them both run free, hoping I will keep them close for many years to come.

The Rainwatcher by Tatiana De Rosnay @tatianaderosnay @StMartinsPress #6bookbestiesrainwatcher #bookreview #pubday

Happy Tuesday booklovers!

Delighted to share with you today my review for this beautiful story about the complexities of family! Another fabulous read with my BOOK BESTIES 💕

The Rain Watcher by Tatiana De Rosney

My Thoughts

A beautifully told, powerful story, about the complexities of family….

“I will start with the tree. Because everything starts and ends with the tree.”

Just as Linden’s story begins and ends with a tree, so does this book… The perfect and very telling first line to this wonderful story…. a story told solely from the POV of Linden…. A charming young man, who has struggled throughout his life to find acceptance of Who he is… not only from others, but from himself! The themes in this book are very universal; acceptance, forgiveness, understanding, Love, secrets, and family…. The Malegarde family could be my family, they could be yours…

This somber story is set against the backdrop of Paris in the midst of a natural disaster… The endless reigns have lead to the river Seine reaching flood levels… this aded so much atmosphere to this book, I felt the wet, I heard the raindrops, I smelled the river…. and all from my living room in the middle of a very dry California, in fact our water levels are dangerously low at the moment…. it really takes a talented author to transport you so completely through her words… I felt as though this was the perfect backdrop for the story, I think it would have been a completely different book had it taken place in a bright sunny Paris….

A book like this is difficult to review because its beauty is in the words… its elegance is in the structure…. its meaning is in the silence…. I can however tell you this is a stunning story, filled with beautiful language, and characters you will feel four…. the Author does not hit you over the head with this story, instead she allows it to slowly seep into you until it is all consuming…. A journey that I believe should not be missed!

Absolutely recommend to those of you who enjoy a quieter beautifully told family drama that will leave you feeling hopeful….

*** A huge thank you to St. Martin’s Press for my copy of this book ***

And No Birds Shall Sing by E.A. Clark @rararesources @EAClarkAuthor #bookreview

Happy almost Halloween everybody!

Thrilled and chilled to share with you today my review for this creepy perfect for this time of year story! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation to the tour!🎃🎃🎃

And No Birds Shall Sing

Final cover ANBSSNot all spirits rest in peace…

Following a personal tragedy, a recovering Grace Clements relocates with her husband and daughter to an old cottage in idyllic rural Oxfordshire. As the family integrate into the seemingly benign local community, they learn unsettling facts about the cottage’s dark past. Grace quickly becomes uncomfortably aware of a menacing presence within their new home.

Stumbling upon a neglected cemetery, Grace and her daughter discover the graves of the house’s previous inhabitants, including those of nine babies. Dismayed to find herself pregnant, Grace suspects she has awoken something truly evil in her new residence. She develops a creeping sense of unease as she unravels the disturbing truth about the history of the cottage and the fate of its occupants.

Who is the sinister boy watching Grace and her family? Are there malevolent forces at work? Or is the mentally fragile Grace heading for another breakdown?

A spellbinding paranormal thriller from the best-selling author of Lay Me To Rest. You may want to keep the lights on…

My Thoughts

This is a dark and creepy story perfect for Halloween!

This is the kind of book that makes you question every noise you hear in the middle of the night… A cursed cottage with a malicious spirit, that will make your skin prick… seriously there were a couple times during this book I had to turn around because I was certain someone was behind me…. the kind of book that will make you a believer of the things that go bump in the night…

I haven’t read mini paranormal books this year, but I’m glad I picked this one up… sometimes you just need the bajesus scared out of you, and this book definitely did the trick! Not going to touch on the plot because this is a book best gone into without any prior knowledge…. just imagine a creepy cottage, in a creepy forest, where literally no bird sing!

Recommended when you’re in the mood for a spooky creepy Reid, that will make you sleep with the lights on!

Crooked Cat PhotoAuthor Bio –

Elizabeth Clark was born and raised in the Midlands, where she continues to live with her husband and son, plus an assortment of pets. Much of her formative existence was spent with her head in a book, and from an early age, she grew to relish the sheer escapism afforded by both reading and writing fiction. Putting things on hold for a time to raise her three children, she has resumed her fervent scribbling.

She has a love of antiquity and a penchant for visiting old graveyards, often speculating on the demise of those entombed beneath. Whilst she has written short stories and poetry for many years, a lifelong fascination with all things paranormal culminated in her first novel for adults, ‘Lay Me to Rest’, published in September 2017 by HQ Digital.

‘And No Birds Shall Sing’, to be published by Crooked Cat in October 2018, is her second foray into the realms of the supernatural.

Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty #LianeMoriarty #BeachRead #AudioBookReview

When I saw that Liane Moriarty had a new book out I knew I had to save a credit.

Her slow burn books are fabulous, and an ideal Beach Read 🌴

⭐⭐⭐·75 Tranquil Stars

The Blurb

Could ten days at a health resort really change you forever? In Liane Moriarty’s latest page-turner, nine perfect strangers are about to find out…
Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.
Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut. She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests. Most of them don’t look to be in need of a health resort at all. But the person that intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House. Could this person really have the answers Frances didn’t even know she was seeking? Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer – or should she run while she still can?
It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question.
Combining all of the hallmarks that have made her writing a go-to for anyone looking for wickedly smart, page-turning fiction that will make you laugh and gasp, Liane Moriarty’s Nine Perfect Strangers once again shows why she is a master of her craft

My Thoughts

⭐⭐⭐·75 Tranquil Stars

If you’ve ever read a book by this author before your know that she is a slow burner, it’s not going to jump into a fast paced story straight away she makes you work for it.

The same can be said for this book we meet the characters one by one starting with Frances.

A once famous now washed up author, who has menopausal symptons and a really bad papercut. She is going to Tranquillum House to get away from it all and especially from a really bad review.

Napoleon and Heather are there along with their young daughter Zoe.

Young couple Jessica and Ben are also there.

Lars the Divorce Lawyer and Tony the Ex-Sportsman, and also Carmel who is trying to be her better self after being traded in for younger model by her husband.

Nine perfect strangers all there for 10 days to be “A better you”

Run by the Russian health freak Masha and her two side kicks, everyone is giving their own “special” personalised diets and are immediately put onto a vow of Silence!

They are taken for long walks and given massages and also one-to-one therapy with the Tranquillum House workers.

Very slowly you start to see different sides of all of the characters and why they are there, you hear their stories and take a peek into their worlds.

Masha was a fabulous character she was so cleverly written.

It’s difficult to tell you a lot about this book without going into spoilers, and it’s also really difficult to put this book into a specific genre, it is kinda Romance, kinda Thriller, kinda Who-Done-It kinda Contemporary!

It was a very clever story and getting all of these stories interwoven with each other is an art in itself, and again if you’ve read any of Liane Moriarty books before you know that she’s a master at this.

I’m not sure what didn’t really work for me in this book as I said before the characters and the story were brilliant, it just needed a little more oompf for me and unfortunately this time it didn’t, but I have read all of her other books and loved them, and you should certainly check her out if you haven’t done so far.

🎧🎧 Narration of course was done by Caroline Lee who narrates all of Liane Moriarty books, and she did it fantastically as usual.
I love the fact that the author uses the same narrator every for every single one of her books, she is a fantastic narrator and gives a stellar performance Every. Single. Time.

Have a Great Day

A Christmas Date by Camilla Isley @camillaisley @rararesources #bookreview #holidayread

Happy weekend book friends!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend! Delighted to share with you today my review for this wonderful holiday story filled with amazing characters! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and to Camila Isley for her engaging story!🎄☃️

A Christmas Date

No one wants to be single at the holidays.

Even Little Miss Grinch, Nikki, a successful and independent woman, must face her bachelorette status at the most horrible time of the year.

December is her personal version of holly-jolly hell: a merry torture made of couples kissing at every corner, forced vacation days, and an inescapable family reunion.

And when her baby sister announces she’s engaged—to Paul, the man Nikki is secretly in love with—and that he’s spending the holidays with them, Christmas starts looking bluer than ever.

Nikki can’t possibly survive an entire week trapped home as the family’s spinster. But she has no time to meet men or to try the newest dating app, she’s too busy working as a video producer for an advertising agency.

So what’s a girl to do?

Nikki has the perfect solution: to hire a fake boyfriend.

Luckily, her job gives her access to an endless catalog of gorgeous actors to choose from.

But Nikki will soon discover that keeping business and pleasure from mixing isn’t so easy, and that she might not be immune to a little mistletoe magic. Especially not when she picked out the perfect man as her Christmas date…

A fun, festive romantic comedy with lots of bad behavior and Christmas spirit. Like a creamy hot chocolate with marshmallows, you won’t want to put this deliciously hilarious novel down. Perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Sally Thorne, and Jo Watson.

First Comes Love is a series of interconnected romantic novels. However, each book in the series can be read as a standalone.

My Thoughts

I absolutely adored and loved every single word in this book!

If you could see me you would see that I have a BIG smile on my face, I have found me another wonderful author! I love a book that completely engages you and captures your heart! The storyline in this book was not original, in fact it has been done many times before and the author even mentions that in the book… but these characters were so electric, they completely drew me in!

Nikki is not in the holiday mood, in fact she wouldn’t mind skipping the entire month of December… when she finds out her sister is bringing her new fiancé to Christmas she goes into full Scrooge mode… The worst part her sister’s fiancé Paul, a man she’s had a crush on since college…. determined not to go home for Christmas single and with no time to find a date Nikki decides to hire a date…. as I said this is a popular trope that has been done before, but I have to admit it is one of my favorites!

Nikki is a fantastic character I loved her, I mean what’s not to love the girl is a cat lover! She is also smart and sassy…. I adored her relationship with her BFF Blair… but most of all I loved the banter and chemistry between Nicky and hired date Diego…. Diego was such a good guy, down-to-earth and genuine, the kind of guy you would want to take home to your parents… not to mention he was tall, dark, and handsome… The perfect go to parade in front of your sister, I make her a little bit jealous…. add in some family drama, Christmas festivities, gluten-free food, adorable animals, and you have got yourself one wonderful story!

Absolutely recommend, this is one of the best Christmas romances I have Red this season!

Are you one of the elect?

Dr. Helen Hope is a lecturer in eschatology – the study of death, judgement, and the destiny of humankind. She is also a Calvinist nun, her life devoted to atoning for a secret crime.

When a body is found crucified on a Liverpool beach, she forms an unlikely alliance with suspect Mikko Kristensen, lead guitarist in death metal band Total Depravity. Together, they go on the trail of a rogue geneticist who they believe holds the key – not just to the murder, but to something much darker.

Also on the trail is cynical Scouse detective Darren Swift. In his first murder case, he must confront his own lack of faith as a series of horrific crimes drag the city of two cathedrals to the gates of hell.

Science meets religious belief in this gripping murder mystery.

My Thoughts

This was a dark and gritty thriller with a bit of a different cast of characters…

A nun and a lead guitarist in a Death Metal band walk into a…. not a bad joke, they are two characters in this thriller…. when a body is discovered on the beach crucified and with a Bible quote? The authorities call on Sister Helen… sister Helen is convinced the guilty party is not Mikko lead guitarist in the Death Metal band Total Depravity…

This book was much darker than I was anticipating and very descriptive in places…. it also involves some science and studies that I have never Heard of before… how would you live your life if you knew you were already genetically pre-destined to go to heaven or hell? This is an interesting concept and very thought-provoking, it is also the theory of the rogue geneticist that they are chasing down… an interesting look at the similarities and differences between science and religion…. all leading to murder and “total depravity“… I found these characters very interesting, I thought it was a very unique angle to a thriller…. Music, religion, science, death, judgment, a potpourri of subject matter!

Recommended to those of you who enjoy a darker thriller with some intriguing and unusual characters….

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory @thebestjasmine @BerkleyPub #6bookbestiestheproposal #6bookbestiesapproved #bookreview

TGIF book friends!

Thrilled to share with you today my review for this delightful romance that starts off with a proposal at Dodger Stadium! Keeping my fingers crossed that the Dodgers can pull off a win tonight!⚾️💙⚾️💙

This was another fun read with my BOOK BESTIES who I’m sure are all rooting for the Dodgers as well! Although one of them wasn’t sure they were a baseball team, I won’t single anyone out though😉

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

My Thoughts

Take me out to the ball game. Take me out to the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and propose to me???

Man bun… doesn’t know how to spell your name… proposes at a Dodgers game… 3 STRIKES YOUR OUT! The opening scene to this book was epic, something I’ve always thought every time I’ve watched one of those scoreboard proposals…. what happens if the girl says, “ KNOW“? Well this book shows you exactly what happens to Nik after the very public proposal…. and can I just say, if this were to happen to any of us I would certainly hope we’d all have a Carlos in the stands to come to our rescue!

A sweet, fun, love story, about two people determined not to fall in love… so, after Carlos and his sister rescue Nik they head to a bar and meet up with Nik’s Besties…. I have to say the relationship between these three girls was really the highlight of the story, it was kind of “ Sex in the City“ on the West Coast… I loved how there for one another they were, how supportive, how non-judgemental, and I loved how bourbon and cupcakes cured everything…. Looove strong female friendships in books!

The book perhaps was predictable, but it is a romance, there is generally only one satisfying outcome… for me what makes or breaks a romance is the characters and the chemistry…. this book was filled with wonderful characters including all the secondary characters…. both Nik and Carlos had wonderful friends, and Carlos had an amazing family…. also loved all the food talk, can’t get enough cupcakes, enchiladas, tacos, etc. etc. etc. where this book fell a little short for me was in the chemistry I didn’t always buy into the chemistry between Nik and Carlos… but what I did believe was, they had a very strong connection and friendship, and truth be told that is what will get this fictional couple through the years! My other little niggle was the Los Angeles stereotyping, I grew up in the LA area and we all ate carbs especially Pizza! Just saying😉

Recommend when you are in the mood for a fun Romance filled with fabulous characters!💕

*** A huge thank you to Berkley for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

The author of The Wedding Date serves up a novel about what happens when a public proposal doesn’t turn into a happy ending, thanks to a woman who knows exactly how to make one on her own…

When someone asks you to spend your life with him, it shouldn’t come as a surprise–or happen in front of 45,000 people.

When freelance writer Nikole Paterson goes to a Dodgers game with her actor boyfriend, his man bun, and his bros, the last thing she expects is a scoreboard proposal. Saying no isn’t the hard part–they’ve only been dating for five months, and he can’t even spell her name correctly. The hard part is having to face a stadium full of disappointed fans…

At the game with his sister, Carlos Ibarra comes to Nik’s rescue and rushes her away from a camera crew. He’s even there for her when the video goes viral and Nik’s social media blows up–in a bad way. Nik knows that in the wilds of LA, a handsome doctor like Carlos can’t be looking for anything serious, so she embarks on an epic rebound with him, filled with food, fun, and fantastic sex. But when their glorified hookups start breaking the rules, one of them has to be smart enough to put on the brakes…

When Lexie leaves home to follow her dream, Annie is forced to turn to her leatherbound journal as the only place she can confide her deepest secrets and fears…

As adults, sisters Lexie and Annie could not be more different. Lexie is a successful doctor and happily engaged. Annie is an addict – a thief, a liar and unable to remain clean. When Annie’s newborn baby is in danger of being placed in foster care, Annie picks up the phone to beg her sister for help. Will Lexie agree to take in her young niece? And how will Annie survive, losing the only thing in her life worth living for?

My Thoughts

This was a heartbreaking and powerful story about the impact of addiction not only on the addict, but the addict’s family…

A beautiful story about an ugly subject… I feel as though I have shared a lot of personal garbage this week, but my ex is an addict… not heroine but, that’s irrelevant, addiction is addiction, its impact is great no matter what the addiction is… The reason I mention this is because it is really difficult for me to sympathize with an addict, especially when children are involved… I am angry, frustrated, and sad that my kids feel as though their father chose his addiction over them… so, it is hard for me to find forgiveness or understanding for somebody who appears on the surface to have done the same thing…. The storyline in this book in my opinion helps to foster understanding and alter perceptions of attics… as a mother and as a woman I found compassion for Annie, but I felt a connection with Lexie…. all this is to say I came into this book with strong feelings and biases, I am not a neutral observer…

Lexie got the dreaded 2AM phone call it is Annie, her little sister who she has not spoken to in years…. she can tell Annie is high and is tempted to hang up the phone until Annie tells her, that she is pregnant…. pregnant, sick, and strung out on heroin, what is Lexie to do? Lexie and her fiancé are both doctors, so, they head to Annie’s trailer park to find her with preeclampsia…. with no other choice than to take her to the hospital, Annie can possibly be charged with child endangerment, and Lexie could possibly be left with Annie’s baby…

Told from alternating points of view Lexie in the present and Annie in the pass… The sisters had a hard and unconventional upbringing… with some secrets still to be revealed that could really stir up some long buried feelings…. The story was just so Well told and so well researched…. I struggled right along with Lexie the entire story walking that fine line between love and hate, forgiveness and blame, hope and frustration, hello and goodbye…. this is the type of story that evokes many emotions and opinions and sticks with you long after the last page is red….

Absolutely recommend for anybody who appreciates a well told story about real life issues… nothing is sugarcoated in this book it is real, it is raw, and it is Messi just like life!

Happy Thursday book friends!

Thrilled to be on the tour for this thriller by one of my favorite authors! A huge thank you to Kim for my invitation and to Kim Slater for this fab book, although I’m still a little angry about that ending! Just saying!😉💕

Closer-KindleI know my daughter better than I know myself and if there’s one thing I know for sure at this moment: it’s that Maisie is not ok.

My ex-husband Shaun and I are still friends.
We would do anything for our beautiful little girl, Maisie.
But now Shaun has moved in with Joanne and suddenly, Maisie has a brand new family.
And there’s something not quite right about it…I know Joanne isn’t everything she says she is. Yet no-one will listen.
I need to discover what she’s hiding.
Because if I don’t, my daughter will be in terrible danger.

The most gripping psychological thriller you’ll read this year from the Kindle top five bestselling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Girl on the Train or Gone Girl, you’ll be absolutely hooked.

My Thoughts

This was a riveting and addictive read, that left my head spinning and my heart pounding…..

K.L. Slater that ending! That was pure torture! or pure genius!?!? Seriously! I’m still looking for the missing pages from my book, the ones that tie it all up neatly! Surely you cannot be that cruel? My mind is still reeling and my imagination is going crazy! Nicely played Miss Slater!

This book is a slow burn that ends in a blaze of glory…. Emma and Shaun are separated, but still living in the same house for the benefit of their daughter Maisie… that is until Shaun starts dating Joanne, who just so happens to be Emma‘s boss…. and if that wasn’t bad enough she’s also the mother of Piper a spoiled rotten brat who dances at the same studio as Maisie, and is definitely not Maisie’s favorite person…. at first Emma tries to put on a happy face for the benefit of her daughter… but, as she begins to see her daughter’s personality morph into a person she does not recognize she becomes very concerned… convinced that her daughter’s changed personality has something to do with Joanne and her brat daughter… Emma begins to look into Joanne’s mysterious passed….

A crazy, uncomfortable, mind blowing, and Page turning story full of unlikable characters… The only characters I liked in this book were Emma and Maisie…. Emma really did all she could to make this situation as tolerable as possible and my heart broke for her as she watched her daughter deteriorate… Maisie was such a sweet child I just wanted to reach through those pages and give her a big hug, what was done to her was unforgivable…. The rest of the characters were just plain despicable… with Shaun winning the prize for being the most despicable…. he was so blinded by love or lust or something that he couldn’t see what was going on with his daughter, instead he chose to believe that Emma was making things up… I really wanted to reach into the pages and shake him into reality, not sure what was up with him! Joanne and her daughter were just straight up obnoxious from the very first page….

This is one of those stories wear your pretty certain of who is the good guy and who is the bad guy, but not so fast…. as in all good psychological thrillers this book takes everything you think you know and turns it on its head…. A powerful story about a mother’s intuition and her determination to find out the truth… A thriller that slowly draws you in and then won’t let you go until the, very. final. word.

Absolutely recommend to all fans of the psychological thriller genre, this is one not to miss!
