Jessica’s Promise by Jill Childs @author_jill @bookouture #BookReview

This week has been flying by, hope your Wednesday is going well!

Delighted to be part of the blog blitz and share with you today my review for this emotional domestic thriller! Many thanks to Kim for my invitation and to Jill Childs for her wonderful story💛

My Thoughts

Riveting! Troubling! Emotional!

This was a brilliant fast-paced domestic drama! I love these emotional domestic thrillers full of twists and turns and secrets…. the kind of book that keeps you turning those pages and leaves you in tears in the middle of the night… this book did all these things and so much more! This is a book that will make you check on your kids a few times while reading, so make sure they are home… A book that also will make you question, who is watching my kids? Thankfully my kids are of an age where they are no longer being babysat, but I think I’d have a hard time dropping my kids off at the babysitter after reading this one!

Theresa along with her three-year-old daughter Jessica, 11-year-old stepdaughter Fran and her husband Craig move to a new house… there new next-door neighbor Angie seems a bit eccentric, but the girls take to her right away, especially Jessica… when Theresa goes back to work as a salon manager she chooses to have Angie watch the kids…. but how well does she know Angie? Soon enough we find out Angie has a dark secret, but what is it? And why is it that Theresa struggles with her daughter Jessica‘s behavior and Angie handles it like a champ? And what is Craig up to after work? Theresa’s life seems to be spiraling out of control and then Jessica goes missing! Who took Jessica? And why?

With a neighborhood of suspects, this book made me suspicious of everybody… you knew the culprit was someone close, but why did they take Jessica and where was she? The chapters from the point of view of the culprit were downright chilling! Both Theresa and Angie were well developed characters and I had sympathy for both of them… although I do have to admit I was suspicious of both of them at some point during the book…

A compelling story full of all the twists and turns you love in a thriller… with an ending that I never thought of, but it made complete sense…. The short chapters in this book made it a quick satisfying read… strongly encourage you to pick this one up if you are a fan of emotional domestic thrillers with a plethora of suspects…

*** many thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

‘You wouldn’t trust a stranger with your wallet. Or your house keys. So why your little girl, the most precious thing you have?’

Teresa’s heart stops when she enters her daughter’s bedroom to find that her sweet, trusting little girl is gone.

Teresa can’t bear to think who would snatch a terrified three-year-old from her mother in the middle of the night, but all the signs point to someone close to home. Hasn’t Jessica’s stepfather been acting a little oddly? Or is it, as Teresa is beginning to fear, something to do with Angie, her daughter’s babysitter who lives next door…?

Gentle, retired Angie – she must be lonely, with only her memories to keep her company in that big, old house. And she’s always had a special connection with Jessica… was trusting Angie with her precious daughter the biggest mistake of Teresa’s life?

What do we really know about those who watch our children? Jessica’s Promise is a compelling domestic drama for fans of Jodi Picoult, Lisa Wingate and Kerry Fisher.

Summer of Secrets Banner 2

August 1939

At peaceful Summerhill, orphaned Maddy hides from the world and the rumours of war. Then her adored sister Georgina returns from a long trip with a new friend, the handsome Victor. Maddy fears that Victor is not all he seems, but she has no idea just what kind of danger has come into their lives…

Summer of Secrets Banner

Today

Chloe is newly pregnant. This should be a joyful time, but she is fearful for the future, despite her husband’s devotion. When chance takes her to Summerhill, she’s drawn into the mystery of what happened there decades before. And the past reaches out to touch her in ways that could change everything…

My Thoughts

Absorbing! Unforgettable! Marvelous!

This is a beautiful duel timeline story that seamlessly weaves the past and the present… I am dipping my toe back into the historical fiction waters and this really is the best way to do that… it is always so interesting to see how much the present mirrors the past…

1939 the year before WWII breaks out and Maddie is excited for her sister to come home… but when Georgina arrives home she is not alone she has brought many friends including Victor… Victor is handsome and charismatic, but Victor is not what he seems… present day Chloe is expecting her first baby and should be elated, but she’s not… her husband is controlling and loves her to the point of suffocation…. The two women me when Maddie is 90 and Chloe is hired to photograph her… A beautiful friendship develops bringing back memories of Maddys past, and making both women realize human nature does not change with time…

I have to admit that Chloe’s story really resonated with me and as much as I enjoyed Maddie story I was always eagerly anticipating returning to Chloe… Chloe was very relatable to me and I completely understood what she was going through, and I so wanted everything to turn out for the best for her…. this book really is all about the ugly and dark side of love… both women truly found themselves in less than ideal relationships in this book… it was heartbreaking and yet it was hopeful… it was real and raw, love isn’t always the answer, sometimes it is the question….

A beautifully told story that captivated my heart and mind from start to finish… absolutely recommend to fans of historical fiction, complex relationships, and wonderful stories!

Josie James and the Teardrops of Summer by Lily Mae Walters @LilyMaeWalters @rararesources #BookReview #Giveaway

Happy hump day all!

Something a little different today for you all I read and reviewed a MG Fantasy and thoroughly enjoyed it! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation to this tour and to Lily Mae Walters for her charming story💛

Josie James and the Teardrops of Summer Blog TourJosie James is an ordinary 13 year old until something extraordinary happens during her summer holidays.

Whist staying at her Great Grandmother’s cottage in the country she finds herself swept into the cursed world of Suncroft where it is perpetual winter.

Her new friends believe she could be the Chosen One who it is foretold will lift the curse, but there are more pressing matters.

The Teardrops of Summer – magical crystals that render the owner immortal – have been stolen.  Along with her telepathic husky-dog Protector Asher and her new friends, Josie must race to find the Teardrops and prevent catastrophe for their world.

My Thoughts

This was a fun magical MG Fantasy book! I am neither a middle greater or a huge fan of the fantasy genre, but I found this a very enjoyable read… filled with all the magic and enthusiasm that I think would draw a child between the ages of 8-12 in…. heck it drew me in! and if my kids were 10 years younger I would have absolutely read this with them… it is books like this that turn kids into readers!

Josie is a charming, brave, and empathetic enthusiastic girl… loved her and if I were a girl of 12 I would want to be her! The world building in this book was imaginative and interesting, but very easy to understand… perhaps I should keep my fantasy reads to the MG level… loved the mystery and the message… I found this to be an extremely compelling Red and I think the target audience for this book will absolutely love it! Also like the fact that there are quite a few more books in the series with Josie aging a year with every book, curious to eventually meet 18-year-old Josie!
